Oh this is all a hypothetical discussion no doubt. And no I'm not in favor of legalizing military grade weapons for a lot of very good reasons. Although if I really wanted a .50 Cal machine gun, I can legally buy one if I were willing to go through the State & BATF licensing process. I would never do that because it's expensive and what the heck would do with such a thing since I don't expect to have to actually fight a revolution. However, a citizenry that is armed to the degree that we are is a pretty strong guarantee we won't have cause fight another one. And yes, if the US Military were to bring it's full strength to bear on any kind of insurrection it would be hopeless. But as Shady pointed out, we would not give them a stand up fight. I think an armed revolt against the government would be a lot more effective than you or Wals are willing credit. But like I said, possible is not probable or likely.

Wals, the entire strength of the US Army including Guard & Reserves is 1,105,301. The entire strength of the US Marine Corps is 235,000 Active & Reserve, the Navy has 432,731 Active and Reserve, the Air Force has 332,854, hell I'll even throw in the FBI at 35,902, the Secret Service 6,700, US Marshall Service 4,853. That is a total of 2,400,000 rounding up. In the US last year there were 33,439,301 individual hunting licenses sold. Those are resident licenses because some hunters will buy several out of state but only one resident. Almost every one of them owns at least one firearm and is proficient in it's use. And that is just hunters. That's not even counting legal gun owners who don't hunt. Now consider for the sake of argument that even a third of those are willing to fight (the same percentage as fought in our last revolution). At over 13 million armed fighters it would be the largest armed force in the history of the world. Even if it was not able to operate as a cohesive unit, a guerilla force of that size would wash this country in blood if the government ever turned against it's citizens. A possibility I FIRMLY believe is possible if not probable. As long as the citizens are armed it will be impossible. http://wsfrprograms.fws.gov/Subpages/LicenseInfo/HuntingLicCertHistory20042013.pdf

Which is why it must be done incrementally. "We don't want to take all your guns. We just want reasonable restrictions on magazine fed rifles" then it will be "We don't want to take all your guns. We just want reasonable restrictions on semi-auto handguns" then it will be "We don't want to take all your guns. We just want reasonable restrictions lever action rifles." then comes "We don't want to take all your guns. We just want reasonable restrictions on pistols" then "We don't want to take all your guns. We just want reasonable restrictions on shotguns" Next thing you know it's illegal to own a BB Gun. To quote George Washington, an armed man is a citizen, and unarmed one a subject.

You know I could post a dozen or so studies that prove violent video games leads to violent behavior. How is confiscating guns and different from video game control. Suppose enough politicians get it in their head that it will be for your own good to ensure you are not having your delicate little minds warped by the violent images in Fallout 3 then seizing and outlawing all the games they don't think you should have. Never mind the fact that 99.9% of the people never act any differently. After all, you should never let facts get in the way of a purely political goal.
-
This above argument.. "someone trying to take away something you legally own and has done nothing illegal with". Does this end with guns? I mean, most people find it pretty natural that we can't buy hand grenades or rocket launchers in Walmart. But according to this logic, we should be able to. No-one should be able to tell someone else what they can or can't legally own. Or is it just guns? Is it because of that paper all Americans seem to hold so dear? The line is arbitrary, before guns, after guns, after hand grenades. Hand grenades and other military grade munitions are already illegal and always have been. That is not the same as kicking in your door and seizing property you have always had and that was suddenly made illegal by legislative fiat.

Gun Control has become a back and white issue because it always was. It was just not marketed that way. The political forces that want it want it completely. Total disarmament. They are willing to accept it incrementally while continuously working towards their ultimate goal: no one has guns but them. You own Senator, Diane Feinstein has said as much. That is why I, and millions of people just like me, will not accept even the most "reasonable" restrictions because it will not end there. Each new law is only a step towards the next. The government is not dealing with us honestly. So you see, it really is black and white. This is one cause I will fight for. This is one thing I will take up arms to defend. And if they day comes when they do come for mine I will kill as many as I can and they can take them from my corpse. And I know for a fact there are hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of my fellow Americans that feel the same way. So again, to those who want it here, are you willing to break the country to get it?

Very sore and tired today. Looks like a good day for fishing.

Again what I'm about to say here applies mainly to the US but when you get right down to it, gun control is nothing more than a group of politicians/political activists trying to take away something that you legally own, and have done nothing illegal with, away from you simply because they don't think you should have it. It is a small group of people with a little bit of political power asserting themselves as the ultimate arbiters of your life and property. That should offend anyone who has even the slightest inclination towards freedom and individual liberty. If nothing else it sets and awful precedent. If they can take away your legally owned property in this case, why not take away something else the powers that be don't think you should have next time? The precedent is set.

Rostere, you and I are seldom on the same side of any political issue and I disagree with you a little here. But... well said!

I bought four dump truck loads of chirt rock and had it poured along the road coming on to the property today. I then spent the rest of the day driving over it with a box frame disk on the back of my riding mower to cut it in and graded it by dragging four chained logs in a harness over it. The end result is a hard driveway that is a good six inches higher. That should help with flooding this year. Tomorrow I start cutting and leveling the ground to make a paver driveway in front of the house. I have a feeling I'll be hiring someone to finish that one. It's a hell of a lot of work that I've never tried to do before.

How so ? I mean if everyone had guns, at least they would have been able to shoot back, but that presumes everyone being armed all the time. Doesn't seem very plausible. I have a permit and carry almost everywhere I go.
-
Gun control is not, and has never been about crime. Crime is just a convenient pretext that politicians use to distract people from the fact that they are trying to take away your freedom. Not all of it, and not all at once. But this one is the ultimate safeguard of all the others. Speaking only to my fellow Americans who are in favor of total gun control; are you willing to fight a civil war to get it?

No, I get Volo's humor... you can't always be sure though

I came across a game called X-Rebirth while searching to see who owned the Master of Orion license. It looked good until I read all the reviews out there. Not a single good one to be found. I know no developer ever set out to invest thousands of man hours to make something that sucked. It's just that some teams or concepts are so flawed they just can't help it.
-
Imagine how much simpler game development would be if they just too the sex/romance part out and focused on actually making the game with a good plot, logical conclusion options, a back story that makes sense, and a minimum of bugs. Since all development resources are finite expending them on making sex/romance subplots is a waste since no one will be happy with the choices anyway. It was a nice idea in theory.

I'm praying for the little guy Enoch, sounds like he will be fine though. Congrats to the new Dad! So.... will the fine cigar be delivered by Fed Ex or UPS?

Bummer of a loss last night for the Grizz. Durant is just a monster. He almost scored more points than our starting five combined. For real. It was still close for all that since OKC is sort of a one man show. But when that one man is that good, it's enough.

In the military we used to play a kind of "full contact" basketball. It was a long way from any rules I'd ever seen but it was fun. After 20 minutes if the score was 10 to 8 it was a high scoring game.

Spill your blasphemous opinions on CRPGs here
Guard Dog replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Computer and Console
Ok, here's my $.02 With PE I have bought my last CRPG.... ever.... unless someone brings the Planescape setting or something similar back. Or Fallout 4 looks good. Anyone who didn't like Torment should have their head examined Anyone who did like NWNs official material... see above I never figured out how to cast a spell in NWN 2, it was a pain in the ass that ruined the game, unless you play as a fighting class which I always do anyway Morrowind was ugly but good Skyrim was beautiful but bad Why can't we switch those two? I have gotten more enjoyment from the story in bad novels than the story of good games (except Torment) RTS Games are more enjoyable than CRPGs Politically correct guidelines and publishers nannyisms will prevent any CRPG from being any good. Except, hopefully, PE and finally D&D rules should only be used by skinny pimple faced geeks rolling dice in the back booth of a Pizza Hut in Topeka KS at 11pm in 1987... not by modern game developers. /rant -
No idea what might live there Bruce. Probably a rodent of one type or another. You have a lot of different critters where you live than I do.

In any other division the Grizz would be in second place. Seven games over .500 in the southwest is only good enough for 4th. The southwest is just tough this season. The Spurs are no surprise but who would have thought the rockets would be this strong.

The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption by Jim Gorant. Vick and his "crew" really were a bunch of savages. It really galls me that he is back in the NFL. If we applied his own "training" methods to him then after that game last season where he threw six interceptions he should have been shot, or hung, or drowned, or electrocuted. After all when his dogs lost or wouldn't fight that's what he did to them.
