  1. I was just reading about those. I'd like to try one before taking the plunge though.
  2. Having some troubles reacclimating to a person living with you again? Let's just say we're having some of the same problems we had when we dated a few years ago. There are some personality types that just clash more than others. It's hard for two Alphas to get along sometimes.
  3. I'm going to Kansas City for a few days for work next week. I'm brining my dog with so that will be good. Plus I think we could all use a break from each other on the home front.
  4. Rays split the four games with the Jays 2-2. Not bad over all. Pitching has been solid with the exception of Alex Cobbs shaky start in game 2. Offense has been sporadic but, it is the Rays after all.
  5. Hooray... we're finally going to die! All this waiting around was getting dull. Oh, wait. This is an Oby thread. Whew, I almost took this seriously. If it does happen it will be all George Bush's fault!
  6. The only ones who will survive the great ebola outbreak and mass extinction will be the folks who live in the woods, have little contact with other people, can grow their own food and are armed to the teeth. Know anyone who meets that description Wals?
  7. I think my brain turned to jelly. I spent the entire day, from 12 until 1 am in front of the TV yesterday. I watched that outstanding Cubs - Pirates game, then the Rays - Blue Jays game (yea!) then the Marlins - Rockies & finally the last half of the Indians & A's. What a great day.
  8. Allrightythen! Let's get your division, wildcard and WS picks here people. NL EAST: Nationals (Originally I'd have said Braves but they have too many pitching injuries) NL Central: Cardinals (Top to bottom they are the most complete team) NL West: Dodgers (Hey, they already have a 2 game lead!) AL East: Rays (No I'm not being a fan here. This will be the best team they have ever fielded) AL Central: Tigers (I reserve the right to change this pick to KC by the All Star Break) AL West: Rangers (I'm not loving any of these teams to tell the truth but the Rangers will have the best starting lineup) NL Wild Card: Braves & Pirates AL Wild Card: Red Sox & Royals World Series: Rays defeat Dodgers in 7 (Ok I AM being a fan here!)
  9. It's midnight Cinderella. Too bad. Dayton did one thing wrong IMO. They forgot that one 2 point shot made is better than a hundred 3 point shots missed. Oh well, with no team to really get behind now I'm just a impartial spectator again.
  10. NY strip cooked over charcoal. Isn't that really the only way though?
  11. Played golf with Lady GD and some of her friends. I sucked. No, really I was easily the worst one there. My slice is so bad my first drive nearly landed behind me. And the only thing worse than my driving was my putting. Fortunately I didn't have to do that much because of that silly rule about actually getting the ball to the green inside of five strokes. But it was fun for all that.
  12. Hey 64 teams started this, every one of them but one will lose their last game. But it would be cool if the Flyers somehow got by the Gators. If UCLA somehow pulls off a miracle in the next game the Fyers will have a fighting chance.
  13. I'm watching the Dayton - Stanford game right now. All of the sudden I'm a huge Dayton fan. I love this wide open passing game they play. This game reminds me of everything that's great about college ball and bad about the NBA. Of course, in the NBA the players are MUCH better and if you tried this razzle dazzle passing stuff you'd just end up watching them take the ball away from you and stuff it on the other end.
  14. Oh gee, all my problems are solved now. I was only depressed because I didn't get drunk and laid. Oh wait, I actually have a healthy sex life and I had to stop drinking because it started out as this and then turned into self-medicating with alcohol and it made everything worse. Depression =/= being sad. Sadness is not always one of the symptoms. In fact, most forms of clinical depression stop you from being able to process that emotion correctly. Don't get me wrong, a healthy sex life is great and it does help in dealing with it but it is not a cure. Well, unless sex is a major part of your deeper issues, anyway. Sorry TN, that was supposed to be humorous as Bruce pointed out. Since this was a serious discussion about a serious problem that probably was inappropriate.
  15. You can try reading John Scalzi's Old Mans War series. It's not outstanding or anything but it's not terrible. It's like a ham sandwich. It's not exciting but sometimes you just want a ham sandwich.
  16. Nothing cures depression faster than a highball of top shelf whiskey sipped slowly after getting laid. Of course, getting yourself into that situation is the tricky part. Fortunately the whiskey is easy to get and it can even help you with the first part.
  17. That's not really Sci-Fi, but it is most excellent
  18. LOL, that's it. Close this thread, KP wins!
  19. I took a year off to work after a series of bad things caused me a lot of financial grief. Recovered from it, but it was pretty hectic for a few months. What I'm torn about is that my current job pays $20 an hour, and that I have an offer from a large company we work very closely with for a $200,000 yearly position after I graduate with a BA. It's good money, but the 50+ hours I have to deal with is a bitch. I'm feeling kind of like that pic ShadySands posted(even though I'm only about 2 years older) and it's a bit depressing. Completely agree with Giftd. If you are that close, just go for it. Bite the bullet and go full time.
  20. You leaving out the part where you came across a pack of timber wolves and you and Tommy had to fight for your survival All in a days work for GD. You must be one of the few members on these forums whose daily excursions in RL sounds like a session of Skyrim Yeah, except for the part about the dragons, giants, bandits, foresworn, wolves, bears, swords, imperial legion, thalmor, vampires, stormcloaks, and hot warrior princess werewolves, it was exactly like that! But there was a lot of walking in the woods not sure exactly where I was or where I was going so that part was right!
  21. I was fed up with work so I went for a walk this morning with my dog. We followed Cold Creek to the Hatchee river. Then we followed the Hatchee all the way to the big turn south and cut west through the marsh all the way to the Mississippi. Then we sat and watched the river roll by for hours. Then we walked back. I'm guessing it was about 12 miles round trip. That was a hell of a walk. We were gone 9 hours. The rest of the day I just kind of wasted.
  22. Fox News isn't evil, they just have an agenda; and that is to spread as much bull**** about whoever is against Republican views as possible. Fox News isn't evil, they just have an agenda; and that is to spread as much bull**** about whoever is against Republican views as possible. This is fundamentally true, GD I would really like you and any others to read the book below. You'll see exactly how Roger Ailes was able to manipulate millions of Americans along certain ideological lines. Yes the liberal news channels also do this but Fox were the first ones to do it and are arguably still the best at it http://www.amazon.com/The-Loudest-Voice-Room-News/dp/0812992857 Fox news is the first? LOL, have you never heard of Walter Cronkite? Dan Rather? Heck the latter got CAUGHT going on air with a story he knew to be untrue just to discredit a republican pol. Bruce, ALL news is biased. IMO there is not single credible unbiased news source in the USA today. There hasn't been in a long time. And bias can be found in not just what is reported but in what the sources choose not to report. You guys are down on fox news because they don't support your "team" so to speak. It's funny, I never hear any criticism of the opposite end of the spectrum MSNBC who is unabashedly left wing. They have dropped all pretense of being unbiased. And believe me, folks here know the media is biased. All of it. We are not so blind to not recognize a load of crap when it's being pushed on us... most of us at least. That fact that we know what we're buying and buy it anyway (Fox News is the most successful and watched news source in the USA after all) is just another symptom of the "political tribalism" going on here these past 25 years.
  23. What happened in the comic? Yes I know I could look it up myself but I don't want to stumble into a spoiler of any kind.
  24. I finished my BSEE working full time and taking 8-12 hours per semester including summer sessions when I could get them at night. It took 8 years. That was a hell of a long time. If you have the wherewithal financially to go full time and finish faster, I'd say do it. Less wear and tear on you and you get to your peak earning potential that much faster so in the long run you're better off.
  25. You know what becomes really tiresome about the political discussions on this board? Some of the folks here (not all or even most but many) seem to truly believe the people who's politics are in opposition to theirs really are nothing more that one dimensional cartoon villains. Republicans hate minorities, democrats are communists, fox news is evil, etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of throwing around hyperbole for the sake of good forum chatter but I think with most of us it's plain when the tongue is in cheek and when it isn't. Some other folks, I'm not sure it ever is.
