I almost never buy a new PC. That is because I usually "upgrade" my machine as soon as I feel it's outdated. That's the beauty of PCs: open the chassis and happy upgrading! I recently made a major update, replacing the motherboard/CPU and integrated an SSD. The GPU and RAM were still good (just got upgrated one or two years ago), so I saw no point in getting a whole new machine either. Better for environment, less electric scrap and good for your budget aswell!

Druid bugs
Zwiebelchen replied to Ferrante's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
It seems that the duration of charm is pretty much random and the duration displayed only determines the max duration. I've found that when you charm a group of enemies, there's usually one or two that remain charmed for the full duration, whereas some break early - especially when there's no enemy around. Feels like that's working as intended as a balancing factor, as charm is incredibly powerful. -
Durance insane stats

My biggest "do want" features for a sequel/expansion: A simple map editor tool, which allows to import custom made backgrounds (along with normal, depth, albedo and final map; Maya mia_material_x render allows to output all those maps, so theoretically (and practically) we can create our own landscapes) and place pathing map, encounters and objects on top of it More companions and maybe a romance story or two to finally shut the promancers up More stronghold content, possibly also different strongholds depending on selected class (kinda like BG2 did) And yes, I agree, more party banter. Game definitely could have had more of this. Voice acting for localized versions; it's strange to have english voiceover on localized texts

I appreciate all your effort, but just a reminder to keep all discussions in this thread in english for the devs to read through.

This. I think the current stat system is okay as it is (not perfect, but it does it's job). I think from here, it's just a matter of balancing certain gameplay elements, like making interrupts a bit stronger or changing how engagement/disengagement works (it would be cool, for example, if I could somehow trigger disengagement attacks manually even if the enemy is not disengaging [because the AI rarely disengages at all, so it's pretty much a foe-only mechanic]). Also, constitution needs a slight buff for non-tank classes.

I dunno man I heard one may be transphobic and the very thought nearly gave me a stroke!!! The ruckus about the "transphobic" story is actually utter bull****. First: the "transphobic" bit is a light-hearted gravestone poem. Second: it isn't even clear that it's about transgender, as the only fact that you can take from this poem is that the guy in question slept with a man. Why he did that isn't stated. It could have been just alcohol, with the other guy just being a straight man either (equally alcoholized). And seriously, if you find that offensive, then you shouldn't leave your home. If you read my post as being authentic and anything but tongue-in-cheek, you should be put INTO a home See, this is what the internet, once a golden and shiny place of humour and freedom, has become. You take every quirky comment for real simply because there are people that actually *are* this dense and it's perfectly believable that it *wasn't* sarcasm.

All these points are moot, if you clearly haven't played the game and understood it's underlying mechanics. Damage Reduction is way more powerful than any other defensive stat if stacked, making resolve a must have not on par with any other tank stat. Deflection is not really luck based due to how glancing, normal and critical attacks work. Instead, deflection is pretty much reliable; there is no reason not to go full deflection and just stack dex to absurdity, making a blazing fast tank that is in no way balanced. You also have to balance stats as pairs, simply because the game allows you to max two stats at the same time. A barbarian currently takes MGT and INT primarily (and dumps DEX if he wants to go into negatives in other stats). This is to boost damage and AoE range and effect durations. With your system, he would still go for exactly the same stats. Nothing changes, except that he now hits better than anyone, making it even more OP. A tank build using RES, DEX, CON would be nearly unkillable and hit fast. Where is my tradeoff for being a full-tank? There are no real valid hybrids possible (contrary to what you postulate), as they are clearly not as viable due to how the mechanics in PoE work. Casters will take INT, RES, DEX, being blazing fast nukers but now also have a **** ton of deflection and damage reduction?? Sorry, you seem to focus on one aspect only with this idea: that you don't want casters to have MGT. I don't care about the minor RP choices in dialogues in the game.

I think the real problem behind all this is the way that INT affects your AoE effects. I was preaching this all throughout the backer beta: the safezone extra AoE range that only affects enemies is bull. It destroys all balancing of spells as you can almost always hit enemies with AoEs without endangering your party members. The way you do it now is that you just move away from the mob until the yellow part of the cone hits all enemies but your fighter tank is not touching the red cone and boom, happy killing. Cone effects are meant to damage your tank! The way the safezone AoE works it's way too easy to land those spells, making them overpowered as ****. Again, this solution has been around since backer beta, but the devs decided that it was too hard to implement (for whatever reason I don't understand): Instead of adding a friendly-fire safezone to spells with INT, allow players to use the mousewheel to scale the size of the spell area based on a range defined by INT! In other words: INT allows you a larger scaling range, making the spell more flexible without adding an ez-mode non-friendly fire zone.

Non human like companions

Haha, I was so thinking of Deekin either... -
Good job, you have successfully reverted this to any cookie cutter RPG stat system ever created. Might is now only important to melees, Perception is the new Might for casters, but also comes with defensive bonuses to that casters are the new tanks? Intelligence is even more overpowered than it is currently, Barbarians will want to stack even more Intelligence Resolve is even more of a must-have for tanks and overpowered because damage reduction is armor-only right now and should stay that way, Constitution is still useless except for tanks, except nobody will have any specialized resistances anymore Dex is now a tank stat, which leads to the weird solution that tanks attack blazing fast and DDs have high deflection scores.

Mature ESRB rating
Zwiebelchen replied to Maccabeus's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Wouldn't be the first game to do that... On the other hand, I doubt this would have gotten the T-rating. Simply because there are several quests in this game that subject rape, child abuse, mass murderer, etc. -

We just don't need more penalties in plate armor. The increased recovery is already a huge punishment. -
Actually, I usually accept bugs on release, but since these are major bugs that just about everyone seems to suffer from, I cant help but wonder how they could have been overlooked. People must have played through the game a couple of times, but didn't notice stats shooting past 21 or Rogues with more endurance than fighters? Or lost abilities for that matter? How is that possible? The bugs were actually not as obvious as people think they are. Remember that both bugs only occur under very special conditions (being in the same area as the NPC joined, having stat-boosting items on them, saving/loading while not being inside a house or any interior, etc.) and that the QA team probably was very small (remember that there were only about 12 permanent members working on PoE at any point). It's actually very likely that such a bug that only manifests for people that play casually (save and load often) vs people that are in a hurry and blaze through the content slips under the radar.

Stealth Mechanics and Mods
Zwiebelchen replied to wpmaura's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It's a matter of game balance. The IE stealth mechanics were overpowered and certainly not what we want to go for. And please let's not introduce ANOTHER mechanic that skews the power of armors towards using cloth for everything even more. -

Stealth Mechanics and Mods
Zwiebelchen replied to wpmaura's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Stealth in this game is not really "stealth" in the classic definition of the word. It's more about tactical positioning and sneaking closer towards the target. The stealth-mechanic works great and imho is one of the stronger points of the game. Way more rewarding than the one-dimensional stealth mechanics of the IE games ("Ooops, my thief missed it's x7 sneak attack multiplier... gotta reload. BAM, 112 damage critical! PWNED NOOBS!"). -
German localization, quality
Zwiebelchen replied to paz12's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This is simply not true and a typical elitist's comment. Books and movies are usually translated very well. It's more or less only games and eastern animations that are lacking in quality. Obviously, you often can't translate puns into another language freely. That's why a translated version of, f.ex. How I Met Your Mother is inferior to the original. Nevertheless it's still a very good translation job. There is a term for that which is "Lost in Translation". -
