I finished Bookwalker. It is a rather short game, just about 7 hours. As it is isometric I would call it more a point and click adventure game than a visual novel (I have seen people liken it to VNs in reviews). The combat is definitely the weakest aspect of the game and win or lose doesn't really matter. The game only has one ending, so the choices in the books you walk through do not truly matter. But the ending is kinda sweet. Thoroughly enjoyed the game and do recommend it.1 point

OK it was added in the last version, and somehow I stayed with the previous one... Thanks ! As long as it is working and tested, I don't care if it is mine.1 point

This is precisely the kind of language you want to write when discussing intelligibility. Anyway, there is a good basic rule to determine whether something is a different language or merely an accent / dialect. It goes like this: go into a place where people speak differently from the way you do. Try to speak like them. If they appreciate your effort, we are talking about two different languages. If, however, they don't like what you're doing or are even somewhat insulted by it because they think you're making fun of them, then we are not talking about two different languages but merely two different dialects / accents. In other words, Cóckney and Scouse are different English dialects -- an East Londoner going into Liverpool and trying to sound like the locals is generally not appreciated. But English and French are different languages -- a Londoner going into Paris and trying to speak like the locals is generally respected, even if he doesn't do it very well.1 point

If I lived in Vvardenfell I would be really tempted to get a pet scrib, those little buggers are the cutest. Unfortunately, eventually that scrib would presumably turn into a decidedly less cute kwama. Now, there's maybe some kind of spell I could cast to keep it in its larval scrib state and stop it from becoming a kwama, but whatever the Tamriel third era equivalent of PETA is might come after me, also I would feel bad because that's ****ed up. Now, if I could speak with the scrib and the scrib, let's call her Peggy the Scrib; if I could speak with Peggy and she told me "I like being a scrib and adorably thumping the ground with my butt. It would be great if you had a spell or potion that could keep me in this state and stop me from becoming a kwama." In that case I would be perfectly fine with using such a spell or potion and Tamriel PETA could **** right off, but I'm not sure if that's possible.1 point

You're not wrong. Interestingly, even though most Karelians live in Russia or Finland (more in Russia than in Finland), the third largest group of them lives in Ukraine (though it is significantly smaller). I am not all that familiar with their languages, of which there are at least two, Karelian and Livvi-Karelian.1 point

Cannot speak for genetics, but linguistically it's definitely not. Like @Zoraptor says above, Estonian is closer by a decent margin. Take this from a native Finnish speaker who has studied quite a few languages and knows a thing or two about the topic: listening to Estonian, a native Finnish speaker is just on the verge of understanding it; the sentence structures are almost identical and the vocabulary sounds incredibly familiar. It's a bit like listening to someone who is extremely drunk or slightly unhinged: you know they are speaking something that you almost understand, but it doesn't quite make sense. However, a native Finnish speaker listening to Hungarian will understand nothing. It's just another foreign language that definitely requires study before you even get the basics of it. By the way, here's another detail about Finland that I think is quite interesting and something someone like @BruceVC might appreciate: whereas a country like Italy has a clear north / south division, in Finland the division is east / west, with the west doing a lot better in many ways. Whether it be overall health, employment or other stuff like that, people in the western parts of the country are likely to do much better than those in the east. Some of the details are downright bizarre: a Finn from the western parts of the country is much less likely to get into a serious accident than someone from the east (which is a nice demonstration of how everything tends to coalesce, i.e. healthy people tend to have jobs and friends and interesting hobbies and not a lot of stress and all the rest of it, and it all comes together into a whole, whereas people at the other end of the spectrum tend to lack much or all of that and thus tend to get into all kinds of trouble much more easily. Chronic stress seriously impedes your thinking and thus almost certainly makes you more accident-prone, perhaps even Hemingwayanly so.)1 point

Ok, minor priority. Won't make a new version necessary, but I will do if any new version is released.1 point

Probably because I book walked in and stole Excalibur from the story.1 point

Request for next version: Increase the "encounter" level of the Hanging Sepulchers maps (Area IDs below). This will fix the unintentionally extreme enemy difficulty that this map is notorious for (a similar change was made in the Community Patch to the Talfor Encounter Map). Some details: These maps are currently set at level 6 (likely inherited from the Sacred Stair which is also 6). The challenging Skeleton Enemies inside (Risen Champion, Risen Mage, etc) are all base level 10 enemies, and the Dargul Corpse Eater and Armsman are base level 12. Because of the 4 or 6 level difference between the encounter level and the base enemy level, they will remain 4 or 6 levels higher than your party until you reach level 11 and pass the upscaling cap. Because they are enemies with classes, they gain additional abilities as their level increases, which makes the scaling all the more deadly (e.g. Risen Mage casting Chain Lightning & Wall of Draining). For reference, the Sea Lashed Crypt is set to level 15, meaning the Risen skeletons on those maps are actually weaker at party level 10 than the Hanging Sepulcher ones. The two base game quests for this area (Eulogy for the Dead, and Symbols of Death) are both currently difficulty level 11 quests; however, there's some indication that they were lower at one time (Link). Suggested Fix: Increase the Area Level to 8 or 9. Based on the placement in the Principi quest line, I'd guess it was intended to be completed by a level 8 party, right before or after Hasango (level 8). Blow the Man Down (the previous quest) is intended for level 5ish (Pre-Hasongo) A Shrewd Proposition (the follow up quest) is intended for level 12ish (post Hasongo, pre Magran's Teeth Setting these maps to level 8 would keep the skeletons 2 levels higher and the darguls 4 levels higher until the party reaches level 12. It's still slowish - but for me it was never the fastest experience to begin with. I believe it's better than it was on wednesday/thursday though. Edit: did a bit of manical testing and it's def. better now.1 point

An interesting article by the BBC on the "tatzpitaniyot" unit. Israel's "eyes and ears" watching Gaza and reporting Hamas movements to the Israeli military and intelligence services. People asks how the intelligence services could fail so badly when the October 7th attack happened. So, the BBC went digging into this unit, being made up entirely of young female conscripts (which doesn't bear arms btw, their job is to watch and observe all day long and report whenever they spot something unusual). Turns out they spotted a lot. From the regular farmers being replaced by unknown faces setting up shop next to the wall, taking pictures to Hamas units shifting from fitness training to commando raid drills. The last two weeks before the attack, they rang the alarm bells and... the BBC couldn't find out how far up the command chain the information went, but it got somehow suppressed from above. Many of the young women in the report got killed on October 7th, but BBC got access to some of the whatsapp conversations between unit members as well as between unit members and their family (sending last farewells etc. a day or two before the attack happened) and frustration expressed by them effectively being gagged. BBC doesn't mention names (too canny for that), but leaves it to the reader to wonder someone in the Israeli government could have an interest in preventing any action being taken that could've prevented the attack (and by extension if anyone had an interest in starting a war) https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-679582600 points

I've tried to play it on EGS, but the Ubisoft DRM kicked in and after several windows, the demo still was not running. So, I guess, missing this one. I doubt that it will be available on GOG or Steam/EGS without double DRM. The RPS review was favourable and I like the screenshot-on-the-map feature, accessibility settings, and the visual style.0 points
