Not Arkemyr though since we know he's already in the game and the "He lives." bit wouldn't make sense. Ninagauth is out because he's either dead or is otherwise local to the Eastern Reach region.

Maybe Minoletta? She's a famed Vailian archmage who specializes in missile and piercing damage based spells. Also, two of the named wizard spells, Citzal's, makes me think Citzal would be a melee fighting type wizard.

edit: Fixed gender, whoops.

Question for josh i found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/projecteternity/comments/6rwbwo/questions_about_poe_ii/?utm_content=title&utm_medium=user&utm_source=reddit

Mechanics, it is a huge crutch in PoE as there is but one item giving a bonus to it and rare (read: can't be bought) scrolls. This means every level needs to be a sink into mechanics making the character one dimensional - you pick locks. Everyone else gets to take ranks here in there. There is specialization and then there is mechanics in PoE...

Answer:

The whole party can contribute to disarming checks, so you don't necessarily need to have a mechanics specialist.

This is going to be weird. I know the whole party contributed to dialogue checks but they also contribute to lock picking outside of dialogue. I guess this is one of those things that could make since from a game mechanic but seems weird on paper. if they want to make mechanics more useful and  incentivise more characters taking it, allow users to drop more than one trap and then more characters may take it. You dont need to buddy up and hold each others hand while lockpicking.

Minoletta is a she.

Whoops, didn't know what gender.

Would still be cool to run into Minoletta though.

This kind of seems like the start of a bad joke to me...  "How many _____  does it take to do _____?!"

Updating his Twitter poll from Monday on whether Deadfire should continue to have both an "Easy" and a "Story Time" difficulty,

In the same manner there should be no separate Hard and POTD difficulties, just merge them into one.

This way you get

  • story
  • normal
  • potd

Incomprehensible idea, because he personally stated 2 years ago that implementing a difficulty into the game is close to nothing work hours. BUT as more of these tweeter news appear I see that all difficulties are in, just with fancy names.

EDIT: I don't have Twitter, thus can't participate in his polls. Again, Josh; thanks

*types, types... remembers of Poe's Law... ohh*

Tbh, I was thinking it would be nice to have an even higher difficulty, a completely bonkers one.

That would feel to a 6-man party, almost as current PotD for a solo.

Given that the Backer beta isn't so far away,

I guess (hope) Obsidian will participate more often at Video Games Conference.

Next one is the PGW (Paris Games Week), but I don't think they're ready to attend this yet. Probably, another one !

suggested difficulty tiers

planchet:     given your minimal tactical combat training, you nevertheless enjoy a good story and perhaps a bottle of wine.

d'artagnan:  just because you are inexperienced hardly means you will shy away from a fight or twenty.

porthos:       you are a seasoned warrior, but such experience has taught you that you shouldn't have to fight or work harder than necessary.

aramis:        as a skilled tactician and strategist, you have learned to win battles before they even begin.

athos:          fate has conspired to throw every conceivable calamity into your path, but the road behind you is littered with the bodies of gods and monsters.  you have lost the capacity to be surprised or frightened.

pirate alternative with a similar progression

william dampier:

richard worley:

thomas tew:

edward teach:

ching shih:

Heh... I was playing something with a difficulty named "Impossible" or something similar (I know there are several, can't think of it right now), and my fiance thought it would be fantastic for a game to have a difficulty specifically named "Impossible" that was literally impossible. But don't tell the players that. Let them figure it out. So, these hardcore people start playing it, and it SEEMS like maybe it's doable, just really really hard, but every time you get an enemy down to half health or something, they just heal back to full, etc. See how long it takes for people to figure out it's literally impossible. :)

Should we not start with some Ipelagos, or at least some Greater Ipelagos, before tackling a named Arch Ipelago? 6_u

ps

use the pirates for the difficulty levels could be made more fun by including pirate flags.  have the corresponding flag appear somewhere on ui and the character record sheet. maybe throw in a smidge o' pirate lore in the difficulty description... 'cause josh loves that kinda thing. admittedly, it might make more sense to use more famous pirates than some of the individuals we chose.

Pirates are thematic and all, but we all know that if Josh were given truly tyrannical authority, he'd name the difficulties after Medieval Saints, ranked in order of the painfulness of their martyrdom.

Does adding one adjective really merit a "fixed"?  "Somewhat improved" seems more appropriate.

Anyhow, here's a tweet:  https://twitter.com/jesawyer/status/922288189514977280

It has nothing to do with Deadfire, but it's a Sawyer tweet so it's technically on-topic.  I just wanted to post it because I have eaten at Taco Temple in Morro Bay, CA, and it was good.

is that supposed to be a DnD map sheet thing? No clue what that's supposed to be.

It's a note with directions + a departure/arrival of a train.

Area of Los Osos, CA.

Examples from the note:

Josh likes to ride bicycles.  A sheet like that can go on  your handlebars or armband for reference while riding, without having to unlock a cell phone.  He presumably took a car/bus/train to somewhere near Morro Bay (seems unlikely that he biked the 200+ miles from Orange County in a weekend), biked, camped, ate tacos, and took the train home.  Sounds like a fun trip-- it's a very scenic area.

(Also, Messier's links confused the hell out of me until I realized that they were to the Polish-language google maps.)
