Cleaning out desktop.

Noticed the "application" pdf file I had send that lady got corrupted. Meh. A good joke ruined by technology :( Can't resend it, or what's meant as a joke will look as if I was desperate.

Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).

Took a short nap, woke up with a serious asthma attack, one so bad I literally started throwing up while choking for breath. Second time that's ever happened to me - hopefully, it doesn't repeat anytime soon. Nothing like waking up and then feeling like you're actually dying for a few minutes, eh?

(e): I gotta say, though, the "no air" bit is bad, but the taste of bile rising as you're trying your hardest to breathe, that's just kicking someone while they're down. :getlost:

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

RIP Gizmo

Put the cat down today. Vet thinks he had cancer, but he'd taken up eating again. And he "only" threw up once a week. But this past weekend, we got two bouts of throwup in a row, peeing on the carpet, and he stopped eating again. And he was still losing weight, despite how he'd been eating twice as much as he did at his fattest. 6.8 pounds.

Very sorry Tale. I know he was your buddy.

Sorry to hear that Tale.

I've been thinking about adopting a cat, actually.  I miss mine, plus I'm a bit worried about rodents in the area.  They are planting corn next door, and I think our previous strays have moved on.  Although I know the garter snake is still active.

Excuse the crappy picture.

I actually forgot how big he used to be, he lost half that weight. People like to talk about cats as loners, but he was always by my side at home. When he was young, I had to learn never to back my chair up while playing at the computer or I'd hit his tail.

One of my managers was let go today, the reason given being "redundancy" (his position was merged with that of another department supervisor). I can't say I particularly liked dealing with him as compared to my other supes, but as I get what it's like being laid-off I can't say I would have wished that fate on him either, even when our manager-worker relationship was at its most strained.

The supe who took on his former responsibilities went to some lengths to convince us that our jobs wouldn't be affected for the foreseeable future, but I wasn't totally convinced. It was also a source of some distress since the last rec meeting gave us the impression that things couldn't be going better for the company. So I resolved to make sure I wasn't doing anything that could even remotely be construed as malingering (forgoing the occasional stream watching on my computer, coming back from lunch promptly on time, and cutting the socialising with co-workers outside of breaks). I even went on Indeed to get a gauge on what my job prospects were like in case things were to suddenly and catastrophically go south, and luckily in the case of that eventuality there wasn't really a dearth of employment opportunities in my field.

“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

Today I dropped everything, idled in the garden under our oak with an oft refilled glass of Cider and ice cubes, and enjoyed the company of my sweetheart (the dog) and also the Mrs. Fido is on steroids at the moment, and a special diet because of some problem with enzymes or something, and I think he understands that something is wrong so I am spoiling him shamelessly. I think the family are getting a wee bit jealous.

Still on such a golden day trouble seems far away, the sunlight was warm and the blue sky cloudless, the swaying shade of the branches was thick and cool, the bees were busy attending to their work, the grass was soft and crisp underfoot, the Cider lent a certain salubriousness to everything and I was very content. A day to remember I think, like a Beethoven overture, a glorious work built on the most basic of principles.

Edit: Sorry to hear about your loss Tale, he looks a sprightly little fellow there.

Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

The words freedom and liberty, are diminishing the true meaning of the abstract concept they try to explain. The true nature of freedom is such, that the human mind is unable to comprehend it, so we make a cage and name it freedom in order to give a tangible meaning to what we dont understand, just as our ancestors made gods like Thor or Zeus to explain thunder.

I went on Amazon and ordered a 9 piece 20V Milwaukee power tool set and a Black and Decker workmate today. I'm closing on the townhouse next week. It's going to be very busy over the next few weeks.

Glued the front soles back onto my shoes with some shoe glue (didn't know you could buy this). The soles at the front had come off by about 2 inches. The Missus wanted me to buy new shoes which I did but didn't want to give these up as I've had them for years. Been to many countries and definitely one of the most comfortable shoes I've worn.

Had to rig some clamps together and let them bond overnight. Both shoes are fixed and ready to go. >_<

Talking to my accountant. This guy walks in, long beard, heavy metal meets anarchist look. Accountant makes a few copies of some paperwork for him. He leaves. Accountant turns to me: "You'll never guess what he does for a living." <dramatic pause> "He's an undercover policeman. You'd never guess by the looks of him, would you?"

And I stand there thinking: and that is how easily cover gets blown :)

last night i was dragged by my mother to a social event hosted by the town's cultural society because apparently it would be a way to have fun and meet people... i had no fun and i met nobody, i just stayed seated drinking some wine and waiting for the crowd to get immersed in the festivities so i can leave unnoticed and go sleep. the only thing i got out of it was a ringing in my ears because of the loud music... and it was the type of music that makes me sleep: greek country music! the louder this music plays, the more sleepy i get when i hear it.

I've got drivers theory test tomorrow morning. It's warm. The online test centre won't let me do any more tests because of snafu. I'm really sweaty, tired, sweaty and stressed. I really want to study some more, ffs. I really don't need this today.

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Got banned from my third game community for criticizing the game.

Look, I'm fully willing to admit that things get heated when people develop personal ****ing grudges towards you when you criticize their game, and I'll fully admit I'm not the most polite person the fourteenth time I have the same brigade of rabid fans following me around shouting down my criticism.

Having said that, I do find it REAL ****ing convenient it's always the minority opinion and the critic that is expected to uphold the "be polite" rules, the very people I was speaking with who equally lost their cool do not seem to be hit with any such slap on the wrist, and that two of these three communities have lept past any warning system, instead immediately springing to permanent bans. Yes, I get it. You can absolutely argue I am the "heart of darkness" in the quarrel, but I would be quick to argue that anyone is going to become a heart of darkness if they cannot walk two feet without people with personal vendettas arriving to shout you down. Should I really be punished for the heat of things while those that stood opposed with me walk free...? If you read this and think "maybe it's time to question if you aren't the problem," well quite frankly it's difficult to believe that when people guilty of the EXACT same degree of hostility (which in and of itself seems like a debateable reason when referring to regular members rather than new accounts that haven't a calm post to their name) are completely unscathed by any moderation action.

Yes, it's a game forum. Who cares, right? Right. I'm not bothered by this because boohoo cross another forum of the list of places to drop by. I'm bothered by it cause seeing the amount of people in society that are absolutely phobic of criticism is absolutely alarming to me. What's more, the first time I could easily believe someone genuinely felt I was the guilty party. And while I may not sound it, yes, I am very self-critical, so even though I can sit here with my gut saying "this is BS," I will absolutely spend a long time wondering if I truly am the problem.

A Greek hoedown?! Sound like fun.

in my case it's not. i never found anything fun about dancing, especially those traditional dances, and i just can't stand the music that goes along. when i see people dance like that, i'm always wondering if they really enjoy what they do or they somehow brainwashed themselves to think that they do... or they simply pretend to have fun doing it because everyone else is pretending too and they don't want to look uncool?

well, in the end the thing works both ways: i can't understand what's so fun about dancing, and those who find it fun can't understand how can i not find it fun

Yeah, it could be either reason but if I was betting man I would say its the latter
