Nepenthe Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 This place really went into the crapper when y'all made raithe stop posting cheesecake. Also, have minimal time off over the holidays, but even that little is very needed. Have basically been surfing wikipedia (czechoslovakia in the second world war) with a few bursts of activity. Nonek Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Preparing for the works annual party today, taxi firm booked, caterers confirmed, guest list finalised and all of us managers are getting down to the most important matter, the alcohol. I volunteer to bring in a case of Belvedere Vodka, as I acquired a couple recently from a Polish friend, my boss looking to impress and show his wealth volunteered to bring in a case of champagne, our marketing manager confirmed his usual commitment of covering the lager and beer, the head of personnel a number of bottles of spirits. At this point our head of security chirps up, "I can bring in a case." "What of?" My boss asks, obviously surprised as security are not expected to contribute as unfortunately they'll be working still. In response our security consultant scratches his crotch, gives the thinnest of smiles and drawls, "Herpes." I have to admit I guffawed quite loudly, luckily i'd just swallowed a mouthful of Earl Grey so my workmates were not covered in that as I exploded with laughter. 1 Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin. Tea for the teapot!

Gfted1 Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 ...almost got a tree Yeah, the missus ordered me to get our tree and Christmas decorations down from the garage overhead a couple of weeks ago. Luckily she turned a blind eye to the fact that I didn't string the exterior of the house with lights this year. That's such a pita. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"

Gfted1 Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 I'm not a huge fan of real x-mas trees. Azdeus Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Was eating dinner today at work and talking to my workmates, and the topic of good TV shows came up. Everyone was arguing back and forth between varying shows and when they asked me what my favourite show was, I simply replied; "Firefly." I did'nt expect anyone there to have seen it except my RL friends, no "nerds" were present besides me and the two of my friends that I work with. Everyone at the table agreed. Not one word of dissent! Everyone was equally suprised as me. Amongst a group of 18 people between 20-40 years old and many different backgrounds, everyone was just angered that there was'nt any continuation of the series. Good day. Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken
Nonek Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Strange this Christmas decoration thing, the wifes family have a huge log burning in their hearth throughout the holidays, oddest thing i've ever seen. In a smaller house it would surely be a fire hazard as well, but their farmhouse is flagged around the fire with slate. Have to wonder where such things come from, trees, baubles and such as well? Rosbjerg Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Helped a buddy out - his former roommate was a hoarder and hadn't paid the rent in 3 months, so now they both got kicked out. He had to pay a huge fines to pick up his stuff. Problem was it had been packed up with the hoarders massive piles of ****.. which we had to sort through to find my buddies stuff. Took 8 hours... Man what a crazy sickness to have. Fortune favors the bald.

It's a spoiler fest, isn't it. am avoiding star wars stuff as much as possible til we see the new movie. nevertheless, am certain that if we don't see the flick soon, am gonna be spoiled either intentional or accidental. 'course the problem is we is a curmudgeon who don't wanna deal with lines and hordes o' sweaty nerdlings... and am pretty sure that most schools is now out for the holiday break, so we can't sneak into a mid-day showing to avoid the teeming throng. am not thinking we can avoid all spoilage til january neither. oddly enough, we can play swtor solo stuff much concern as all we needs do is disable chat to avoid those who wish to bring grief to a star wars christmas.. Enoch Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 I'm not a huge fan of real x-mas trees. I mean, they're beautiful and they smell good but you have to keep them watered and they drop a bazillion needles. I'm just not down for the maintenance. For my part, the only reason to put up an x-mas tree at all is to have an actual goddamn pine tree in the house for awhile. It's nice to have lights in it (which enhance the experience of lying beneath the branches on one's back and looking upwards), but I could do without all the other decorations. I go buy one every year from the parking lot of the paramedic station around the block. They sell at a ridiculous markup, but I think of it as a donation to a neighborhood nonprofit, and I enjoy the experience of strolling in to buy one and surprising them by carrying it home by hand.
Gorgon Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Turned up the heat for the first time this half of the year. Which is unusually late. The winter here is incredibly mild, worryingly so.. about 10-12C (+50F). For one it's not a good sign in general and it spells a wet and stormy year to come. You can't really equate one year of mild weather or this or that storm with global warming. I've never had much patience for people who didn't believe climate change was man made for no other reason than that it suited them to do so. It's just that it reminds me of a story about the recent climate talks where the reporter mentions that it is hot for this time of year. That's just irrelevant information. It's not a sample size that can be held up against data, it's just one tiny data point. 1 Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
