So, now that we have a poll for the favorite ones, showing a rather even distribution (3 favorites, the rest seem to entertain people in equal measure), let's see how they fare in shunned/irritating/boring/otherwise repellent contest. :p

I picked Sagani. I would like to note, however, that I was so disinterested in Pallagina that I didn't bother to pick her up.

Hrm, I kinda liked all of them but neither Pallegina or Hiravias did much for me.

I liked Pallegina as a character but it just seems like there needed to be more stuff for her.

Hiravias has some amusing quips here and there but at times it also feels like... trying a bit too hard with the "greasy pervert" schtick. Fortunately, he isn't a one-note character and there is some more depth to him as well.

But I think both of them suffer a bit from feeling slightly... detached. Perhaps it's because they are character you are likely to run into a bit later in the game (not necessarily but I think it often turns out that way) and they have no real heavy impact on the story. For example, Grieving Mother is also likely to be encountered later in the game but she has a pretty big role to play in terms of the story.

I couldn't bear to haul Hiravias around after he said "feces tube" instead of colon.

I just had this moment of, "seriously, writer? You couldn't be bothered to google this? To hell with you."

If I'm typing in red, it means I'm being sarcastic. But not this time.

Dark green, on the other hand, is for jokes and irony in general.

Aloth. For most of the game I didn't dislike him, I just didn't care about him at all. When we started talking more and with all that Leaden Key business, he became more annoying. He remained a servant till the end, why would I like that kind of personality?

It's my own fault, I suppose, because I didn't encourage him to value himself more during the conversation on the bridge. But IIRC my best option there was telling him I want him by my side as a friend, and that would be lying. Not only weren't we friends ('cause like I said, I didn't care about him), but I also didn't think he was trustworthy. He lied to me all along, how could I insantly forgive something like this? I should have kicked him out of the party, but I thought he could still be useful.

So yeah, him. Hiravias grew on me, not necessarily his, erm... evocative language, but I genuinely cared about his struggles with his spirit form. Pallegina felt underdeveloped rather than uninteresting, I wish I saw more of her.

Sagani, by far.

She had a few decent banters but other than that, nothing enjoyable from my side.

Found her personal story boring (like I care about her children and husband...) and her quest had 0 appeal to me.

I also hate playing rangers.

Took her with me cause I wanted my first playthrough to be a "good" one and I thought she would fit the mentality of the group but yeah, that was about it.

Sagani suffers really bad from mechanical side. She is very well written, but while made a believable character - her quest did not engage me that much. Maybe she is a bit too much down-to-earth?

Aloth has the same issues on mechanical side, plus he is annoying as hell.

She suffers from being a vehicle to provide setting information, rather than an actual character.

Hiravias by far

Worst voice acting in the game, uninteresting personality and unfunny quips... the whole companion feels somehow "forced" and uneven

Pallegina by far. She's basically a lore exposition character, and her motivations / dispositions hardly made sense to me. Then again I didn't exactly include her much in my party aside from doing her quest and the ditching her.

I wish it would be possible to vote in a scale, because it's not really representative of overall quality when you can only pick one hard answer.

I personally feel Pallegina, but Sagani is pretty high too, followed at some distance by Aloth. Then there's a gulch between him and Hiravias, then Kana Rua, Grieving Mother, another pretty big gap, and then Edér and Durance is up there fighting over who should be considered the best.

Like some others, I feel that Pallegina feels like a vehicle to make a point or provide setting information, rather than a real character, but I also think that she feels snowflake-y and out of place compared to the other CNPC:s. Sagani is pretty good by comparison, but feels flat and a bit uninteresting. Which is worse is something I think largely depends on personal preference.

I got to say Eder felt his happy go lucky attitude and emotional thinking was annoying. Man was it LOL funny putting him in that bloody pit. Grieving mother is second worst with her obsession with muh babies, think of the babbies! I love kids but I just wanted to do a babality on the bitch.

Least likeable or least interesting? Because it's not the same thing for me. I really disliked Grieving Mother after finishing her personal quest, but her story was rather interesting (voted for her nonetheless, I was too put off by her final conversation). Durance also has an annoying personality, but I love him as a character. On the other hand, I quite liked Pallegina's remarks in some quests, but compared to the others she felt underdeveloped.

Durance is thoroughly dislikable, though that's not to say he's badly written.

If I had the gay, Durance would be my waifu.

In a previous thread I had picked Grieving Mother -- since I found her dialogue style jarring and overdone when I first met her.

But by the end of her storyline I'd gotten the rhythm of it, and I found the conclusion genuinely touching.

So, I'm here to UN-vote for the GM as my bottom pick.

Eder and Durance remain the strongest, but I don't think there really is a last-placed among the runners up. None of the characters are badly written, but only a few are as fully developed as I would have liked.

Durance.  He may be well-written, but I'll never know since I wanted to murder him five minutes in.

Hehe....me too. Although I've kept him in my 1st-started party, but I refuse to talk to him again, except when he occasionally has initiated it. Plus he's glitched, for me anyway, since I asked about his staff before I had a dream/his quest updated, or something. Other player chr. games I've made, I've made my own Priest when I want one.

I have the feeling the ... paladin? Pellgina? wouldn't appeal to me either. I don't tend to like chrs. with that type of mindset. But can't say for sure since she's sitting in my Stronghold and escorting troublemakers. Someone has to. May as well be her.

Isn't that exactly what Pallegina is supposed to seem like?

This poll hurts me, because I like all of the companions...  nice to see though that no one in particular is getting strong hate.

Also nice to see that Eder is a character everyone can agree on. Tough to hate a guy like him.

I dropped Durance in my first play through. As I usually do for my first play through, I tried to roll a character that I could identify with and make the role playing decisions as close to "what would I do in this situation" as possible.

So, Durance brings the cray-cray and I thought, yeah, I don't want this piece of work behind my back. When I saw his unhappy end, "yeah, saw that coming."  So, really, he's a well written character. In my second play through I'm taking him (and Grieving Mother and Hiravias, neither of which I recruited the first time) for the story - but yeah, not someone I want watching my back in RL.

Speaking of that, the two characters I would want watching my back in RL were Sagani and Eder. Both seemed like they would be trustworthy people (not likely to be distracted by something shiny (Kana), no multiple personality disorder (Aloth) etc.).

can't say i REALLY disliked any companions... i dumped sagani because rangers are useless, but i find her writing good, the "inuit" style was refreshing, i liked her voice and her gesture (surprisingly detailled) her quest is not that interesting though.

i kept aloth because i needed a wizard, but i didn't trust him or have any bounds with him and i disliked his personality, but i liked his story.

Kana felt uninteresting too and not really usefull to my party.

Pallegina has some funny banthers, i liked the lore she brings on the table and her fierce attitude (reminds me of Jaheira), but she needed more depth, more mystery... she could have been an unforgetable companion.

Hiravias is quite cool too, very usefull to my party, he brings some lore too (they all did, but at various levels), its a little dirty guy that love to fight, kind of badass in a child body/voice.

I have a large preference for Eder (both story and personality) and Durance (great great story even if i slightly disliked the man).

so, i choose Kana as the least liked companions of mine.
