I like pillars of eternity, i like the story, and the game play.

Theirs really is no reason not to have dualclass or multiclass in this game. if their was a multiplayer, dualclass could still be removed from it.

Just speaking from a single player point of veiw it should of been put into the game, it worked for the old school games and it would of worked for this one too. It had to have been laziness or short sightedness. I hope they add it to an expantion.

If you don't want multiclass then don't multiclass easy enough its an option like alot of other things in the game.

                                                                This is the arugment

IRMA:

"why is everybody hatin dual class? you finish the game playin your fav classes, then you can connect them and enjoy it even more! why do you care if mage+fighter is too strong its not mmorpg jesus. it adds more fun and more options to thr game.
whats better, 11 options, or 11x11(-11)? do the math"

I'd very much like to be a Cipher Monk. Hnnnggggg, soul whip-powered fists.

I can just see the overpoweredness now.

This might look like I'm speaking in jest. I'm not.

This is one of those games where I can't really see multiclassing working very well.

Not to mention the absolutely mind-boggling task of implementing it in a way that makes sense and isn't broken as all hell.

Personally I think it's enough that you can already build your class in almost any way you want. Heavy armor? Ranged? Sneaking around? Throwing scrolls around like candy? You've got tons of options already.

The casters are kind of limited in builds because of the rest system.

Although I'm not sure it'd work in the ruleset I'd personally like to see a system similar to D&D3 where you get to, more or less freely choose which class you are improving at each level.

Barb/Wizard = unkillable aoe monster

Can you imagine a Fireball (and other AoE damage spells) proccing carnage?

How about Cipher/Wizard for that AoE focus generation?

I'd like to see an Omni-Class. Can pick from ALL talents from ALL Classes every level up. Then you could mix-n-match how you please.

If there's going to be multiclassing, there needs to be real drawbacks to it. BG2 dual-classing was completely broken in terms of playability and power level. In terms of playability, it was utterly stupid why you lost access to your old class until you overtook its level with your second class, and in terms of power level, most dual class combos were at most one level below their single class counterparts but much more versatile.

On the other hand, there needs to be real benefits to it, or you might as well not do it. Temple of Elemental Evil gave you almost no benefit to multiclassing, as the large party size made it more efficient to have specialists instead of generalists in your party. IIRC you could have a party of nine: 6 PCs and 3 NPCs. Multiclassing is really only useful in solo games or games with small parties, as the added versatility offsets the decreased focus.

I've never met a multiclass system I didn't try to break, but I don't think this game is really meant for it.

The class mechanics are too specific: keeping track of Focus, Wounds and Chant verses on the same guy would be just ridiculous -- even the icons are in the same place on the portrait.

It's something I can see happening with a more generally reworked class system in a sequel three years from now -- but not an expansion.

Perhaps. I want to try building a wizard as a full on spellsword, putting him right in the middle of the enemies and exploding all over them. Or turning a priest into a berserker mode holy warrior

There are much more important things to focus on. This game system wasn't designed with multiclassing in mind. :p

During it's 40-year history D&D has come up with an impressive amount of stupid ideas.

Of all those stupid ideas only a tiny handful are as ingeniously stupid as dual-classing.

Yeah .... because Gandalf never picked up a sword and trying to recreate Belgarion would just be ... BAD WRONG FUN.

Are you talking to me?

Multi-classing is a sensible concept. Dual-classing is not.

Imo if you really want "multiclassing" then you should just go with a classless system. Like Elder Scrolls, or Divinity Original Sin, or The Dark Eye, or SPECIAL.

I'm pretty sure this system does not lend itself to dual- or multi-classing.  Not that it is impossible; they could do it, but the system wasn't designed for that from the start, and adding it in would highlight that fact unpleasantly.  Whatever notion of class balance exists now would pretty much fly out the window.

Of course, it's a single-player game so in one sense class balance doesn't really matter.  You won't be playing the game with your single class character getting stomped by four-class supercheese players.  So it wouldn't really hurt anyone.  Except the developers, of course, who would have to do a bunch of work to implement it and then listen to the forum erupt into endless debates about why all the classes aren't as effective as some specific multiclass build.

If they do add multiclassing, though, I would definitely use it.  :)

The way the talents work in this game, there is no need for multiclassing. E.G. you can turn a wizard into a gunner if you rally want. The weapon and armour choices arent as narrowly limited as they used to be in the old DnD games.

I would have liked to see some form of multi-classing system for PoE. Or even just Prestige Classes for further class specialization.

I just wish the game had been built upon D&D 3.5 in the first place, I realize that probably was never even an option but to me it was and is one of my favorite systems

Multi classing would be awesome. All the neat little tricks and character types would be sweet. A chanter monk would be kewl.
