been playing Space Engineers. since I'm the adventurous type, we decided to jump right into survival mode, without knowing any basics.

well, surviving has been tough, and we couldn't figure out how to get Uranium, so we decided instead to hijack passing by ships. the last couple of days have been filled with boarding mining and civilian vessels, flying them back to our base and disassembling them for components and resources.

three days later, here's our base

the three docked vessels to the left are our latest trophies: a military frigate, a mining hauler and a military minelayer. after a couple of easy kills (jumping out of your transport with a buzzsaw, flying towards the target, making a hole in its hull, hacking the control panel and shutting down defenses) we retrofitted one mining ship with minigun turrets and are now using it as a mothership for our attacks. we just destroy all ships that pass through our sector and tow the remains to our chop shop

but today we hit a jackpot: a military transport

this thing is so tough, that we had a long battle, almost losing our frigate and fighter, in the end I had to board it old-school style, making my way through its cargo bay and disabling the main reactor to power down all of its defense turrets. here are pics of the damage we sustained

been playing Space Engineers. since I'm the adventurous type, we decided to jump right into survival mode, without knowing any basics.

I just came here to post that I installed/started a non-adventurous creative mode to take a peek. I jumped on a platform (can't jump very high in a spacesuit), randomly placed a block, couldn't seem to put a block on top of that block, accidentally deleted a platform block and almost fell in, jumped up and down on an asteroid, tried to mouse-click on stuff (didn't work much), read the help tips in the center screen (didn't help much), boggled at the block menu etc.

...I dunna know wat to dooooooooo....where's the wiki? ... bah, I'll get around to learning it someday.

wikis don't have much info, really. and the game can be overwhelming at first. it's so complex that finding out how stuff works just by exploring all the menus can be difficult.

in creative mode all you really need to do is pick a module you want to place and drag it to your action bar. after that just figure out what you want to build.

to build a simple spaceship you need to click that "New Small Ship" button and place the chassis you get from that action anywhere. then just attack a small reactor, a ****pit, a gyroscope and a few thrusters to it, making sure you have enough thrusters to propel the ship in all 6 directions (so, at least 6 to be able to stop the ship completely with inertial dampening). everything else is just extra, designed to make ships suitable for a certain task (like mining drills or welders). just start small and see where your imagination takes you.

you can build anything, I've seen videos of people making whole factories, with automated assembly lines etc.

I pretty much only used the sword (classic version) in the new Shadow Warrior game. It was most fun.

Picked up Door Kickers on the Steam sale.

This brought a smile to my face:

“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

It's great fun. The planning phase has a lot of tools I wish I had playing old-school Rainbow Six and to see a plan come together is totally visceral.

Enjoying the Emerald Graves.

Well my character is, I'm not. This area has a lot of flickering in the background. Enough to cause one seizures.

Houston, I think we have a problem.

(swung a pickaxe, fell through the world, kept dropping and dropping in freefall. Had to use a fly-cheat to get back up, heh)

So that's what my mine currently looks like. Fascinating.
