What are you playing now?

So with TOR expired for good, I still can't muster up the willpower to install ME3 - as much because of the side decisions as anything else: wait for story "fix" or no, and whether to try create a usable import or no.

Instead I decided to have a short bash with Privateer for the first time since going to Win7, on account of finally having a USB flight stick. Ended up playing about 6 hours straight, with the "one more upgrade" syndrome. Tarsus went to Orion - the first time I've tried the Orion seriously - and hated it, and went on a mad push to buy the Centurion.

A familiar problem of course, is having the cash to buy the ship but not having any to actually make it usable. So there I was, flying a Centurion with no engine, no shields, no guns - just an afterburner, a missile launcher and a handful of IR missiles, desperately afterburning around trying not to be hit, knowing that even one pirate Talon could kill me with ease. With the hefty repair bills incurred from playing like that, it took a few trips to even be able to buy a set of basic lasers for 4000 credits, let alone the recommended set of Tachyons for 80000. I think I'm just about ready to leave the Troy system now....

It occurs to me that this game is basically the same itch that MMOing gives. A gateway drug? Maybe.

Well, took a break from my FFX drive to download some games to the PSP. I actually have FFVII, FFIX, and Suikoden on the PSP!!! I really should finish up FFX, I'm REALLY close to the end at this point, but I have such a strong temptation to take the new games on the PSP for a run.

Game of Thrones looks interesting. May try that when I finish up D3.

You might want to read up on a few reviews of it so far......

Yeah I read the Gamespot review and they gave it 7/10. I wasn't expecting GOTY but from all the reviews I've read it has a really good story and that's what I play RPG's for.

Have you seen Mass Effect 3's? Or Diablo 3's?

I am surprised people still put weight in Metacritic these days with the mass sabotage going on...

I don't know what to think of the Game of Thrones RPG. I hate using online review scores because I don't think very highly (for various reasons) of those doing the review. But I haven't seen anyone talking about the game on the forums I visit.

Strictly based on the scores of the two main sites I've visited, it's a mixed bag. IGN gave it a 4 out of 10, which seems horrible. Gamespot gave it a 7 out of 10, which is a solid title.

Although I will say, both actual write-ups (forgetting the review score) made me a bit intrigued about the game. Seems the consistent thing is how it's a pretty good story.

Aliens vs Predator (2010). I don't understand what everyone seems to have hated about this game. Great atmosphere, and playing as a predator or alien is no longer a walk in the park, as it was in previous installments.

There is something immensely satisfying about leading a bunch of xenos into a colonial marine outpost as a predator and picking off the remains. I'm loving it.

I kinda agree. The Marine campaign was quite decent, actually. The Predator campaign was weaker, but overall still good enough to play through it. The Alien campaign however felt lacklustre and rushed, and I never finished it beyond the first 15 mins. Maybe it gets a bit better later on?

The story

There's no story. Assassin's Creed is all about parkour and assassinating dudes. Also, the first title sucks because of repetitiveness, although the unique assassinations offered more organic approaches compares to Assassins Creed II's scripted stuff. I have bought Brotherhood in this sale, so I can't comment on it yet.

As for Assassin's Creed series in general, I like the historical setting and atmosphere but...the story is...well, not even passable, IMHO. And I don't mean only the lame Sci-Fi part but also the "historical" part. On the other hand, the story of the Game of Thrones RPG seems to be interesting. There should be a mixture of fun game-play and, at least, a decent story. Why can't we have both, at the same time? :(

I don't trust reviewers and with what I've heard about GoT, I've preordered it. I know the fights and controls will be painless and certainly repetitive, but I don't care. Most of the RPG I love have a somewhat mediocre gameplay but a good story.

There was a story. It may not have been very deep, but at least it was coherent (IMO) up until the end of the second game. The end of the second game and continuing into Brotherhood started to bring elements in that made the story confusing.

My feeling on this is either go full monty or don't bother. Very few games ever have a fulfilling story. If it doesn't have intrinsic reward, like talking to an NPC you want to know more about, don't go on endlessly about the desperate need to retrieve the mcguffin/fulfill the prophecy.

There is also a really basic fail in the way many assassinations were designed in the first games. You would get a 'mission failed' just for being discovered. That's not a game stopper, that's a result, now show me the consequences, don't quit just after it got interesting.

Still playing Warlock - Master of the Arcane...

Eliminated my first opponent and made a dent on the second opponents domain. Lots of glee involved as he started out being a bully and making absurd demands (which I rejected), resulting in him declaring war on me on a most inconvenient time. Paynback's a bitch, now he's begging for mercy

Also got rid of a duo of fire elementals that had made my life miserable for large parts of the game. Having discovered portals, I'm sort of wondering if I should go investigating what's on the other side of the doorways.

Nier

I just found out that their multiple endings are reserved for repeat playthroughs... What the bleep? You get ending A on playthrough 1. Ending B on playthrough 2. Just to mix it up, there's a choice between C and D for playthrough 3.

You only replay half the game. You do not start from the very beginning.
