Malcador Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Well, it's right that its handled in a silly way, but relative to other games nothing that upsetting. The "mature" setting did involve more than the whores, as well. I did laugh at two of the women though - the half elf and the sister in the village, the former is especially random. HoonDing Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 It's a silly departure from the book character, at any rate. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

entrerix Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 The Witcher allows people to play as a medieval James Bond. There is nothing wrong with that, but lets not pretend it's something more than it really is. this Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.
Slowtrain Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 wait, did somebody just imply that JAMES BOND is not mature? Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.
Sannom Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) Sex can be avoided as much in a CD Projekt game as combat can be avoided in a BioWare game. Don't forget the sexual encounter between Geralt and Triss at the beginning of Act 3. Same. The Witcher features a hero that doesn't have to worry about disease or kids and has women throwing themselves at him. That's not a mature take on sex, it's the fantasy of the typical hetero teenage boy. If you claim to be offering up a mature product, expect to be called out when you deliver an adolescent power fantasy. I don't think CD Projekt claimed to offer a game with a mature handling of sexuality, that was more some fans' hobby. The maturity of the title came from the dark, bleak setting, where everyone has an agenda and few choices are completely evident, the two biggest exceptions I remember are how you handle the Abigail and Vincent situations. Ehm... I did not knew that sexual-disease prevention programs and contraception was promoted during medieval... So I don Edited May 5, 2011 by Sannom

Zoraptor Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Its interesting that the loophole of "buying it online" hasnt been clamped down on. I guess they just dont want the boxes on the shelves. It is technically illegal to either order a physical copy or buy a refused classification game from overseas; or anything else requiring classification that has been refused for that matter. Until the Great Firewall of Australia comes online just isn't a way to enforce it. But that is why some DD outlets (Steam) will autoconvert uncensored games to censored based on IP, and irrespective of which version was actually purchased.
MacMichael Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) GoG.com's facebook page has information on a price increase for The Witcher 2 in Australia that's happening tomorrow. In the comments they also mention their Fair-price policy, so you get credit at GoG.com because of the price difference. Also, they mention it will be the censored version that you'll get if you live there, but that modder's should have an easy time fixing that. GOG.com - DRM-free classic PC games. Cheap. To all Australian gamers! You have 17 hours to preorder The Witcher 2 on GOG.com for the original price of $42.27 AUD! On Friday, May 6 at 1500 GMT, due to licensing reasons we're going to adjust the price for Australian market and charge $62.99 AUD for the preorder and $69.99 AUD for the full price. The preorder on GOG.com isn't forcing you to pay for the game instantly. To preorder go to http://www.gog.com/tw2 GOG.com - DRM-free classic PC games. Cheap. @Cameron - Unfortunately we can't give the discount but we'll be giving $26 USD store credit to spend at GOG.com as our 'Fair Price Package' to match the price in USD. Tigranes Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 What about people who already preordered? I'm in NZ so chances are I'm affected too. Though a GOG store credit would be fine with me... Hell Kitty Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I believe that if you've preordered at the current price then that is what you will pay, after today you'll pay more but get credit.
Humanoid Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Pondering whether to go ahead with the pre-order (~$42 as above), or import a physical copy from the UK for ~$34. Was prepared to pay a little extra for launch day access and no DRM, but I get irritated at the principle of getting 'less' (sure I won't even notice the cut, but still).
