STEAM!

Nightshape can you try just the install program for X-COM: UFO Defense and X-COM: Terror From the Deep? Those are the only 2 games that had MT-32 support. The others do not sadly.

That was XCOM: UFO Defence, in the UK it was known as Enemy Unknown

I came up with Crate 3.0 technology.

Crate 4.0 - we shall just have to wait and see.

I wish I had a setup with something better than the Sound Blaster FM synth back in the glory days of DOS gaming. By the time I managed to get an AWE64, Win95 already had a foothold and made it all rather pointless. :shrugz: But at least I didn't have a Pro Audio Spectrum.

Still, DOSBox lets me relive the old games with General MIDI support at least - though an element of nostalgia is admittedly lost when my games don't sound the way they did 20 years ago.

Unfortunately it's very imbalanced when the US gets a chopper.. A good crew can destroy the entire VC army.

That sounds more like realism than imbalance.

Balance is overrated.

The important part of FPS games is the roleplaying, I always felt. Make sure that you run away and die in character.

Why in gods name does steam not download a new version of a game and then apply it instead of making the game unavailable while you wait for the download to complete, thus creating massive demands on available servers every time a popular game gets an update. Is there not a setting somewhere that can turn autoupdate off for your games ?

At least i managed to find one that turns the popups off.

You have to use offline mode, to my knowledge.

There's a separate "do not keep this game up to date" option that's on a per game basis, but I believe that updates still kick in with launching the game. It only prevents updating at other times.

No need, just right click on game --> properies --> updates.

And it never ever stays on for me, which is nice.

The game will update when you launch it. Or does your experience say otherwise?

Yeah, the setting won't stay on "do not keep this game up to date", it just jumps back to "always keep this game up to date" when I restart steam/pc.

Weird and bit annoying.
