Gorgon Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 There is one Survival check when you talk to the kid at Nellis about the Boomer's history (gains you some fame with them) but that's all I can remember. I always kill everyone at Nellis. It's too much of a drag finding all those different people and doing menial tasks for them, and apparently you can't finish the game without getting a result there. I think I'm entitled, I mean they did force me to reload 40 times while running the barrage. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
thepixiesrock Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Yeah I always thought it was weird to help them. I mean I always help them, but I feel weird about helping them because I mean, how many random people must they have killed, and they are so obsessed with blowing up people. It just doesn't seem right to help those kind of people out, but everytime I get there I can't bring myself to kill them because they all end up seeming so nice. But yeah, that's like, really messed up that they can just kill everyone that comes near their base. What a bunch of sociopaths! LadyCrimson Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Helping people like the nutter Boomers...it's all for the greater good, man, the greater good!! .....I think I had to reload 5 times to reach the Boomers. There weren't that many quests for them when I did it. I got the idolized doing just a few quests seemed like. I had more trouble doing the Omertias (sp?) & trying to find all those bloody people in the hotel, when the local map doesn't tell me what floor each marker is on. “Things are as they are. Hurlshort Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Can you blame the Boomers for blowing up folks who get close to their base? There are a lot of nutjobs roaming around. They did post signs up.
thepixiesrock Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Hey so does anyone tried using a character who only uses their fists or like, maybe the boxing tape stuff, but no actual unarmed weapon? Like does anyone know what you base damage with fists are and how much you strength score affects it? Tigranes Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 There are a lot of quests for the Boomers, though you don't need to do all of them. Treat the patients, fix the array, solve the ant problem, get the lovers together, lift the plane out of the lake, listen to the museum dude, and I think one or two more. I'm pleasantly surprised that even after finding the Strip and doing everything I can do there, there are tons and tons of quest hubs and towns and whatnot going on. Seriously, this game is more full of real content than pretty much any RPG in the last 5 years. On approach, I used up all my locksmith readers to get through the nearby tunnel, thinking it would give me a safe way to reach them, but as soon as I took the other exit a deathclaw took my vital organs and ran off. LadyCrimson Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) Hey so does anyone tried using a character who only uses their fists or like, maybe the boxing tape stuff, but no actual unarmed weapon? Like does anyone know what you base damage with fists are and how much you strength score affects it? Damage bonus per point of STR is not a whole lot, for instance I think 10 STR gives you a 5dmg bonus (1 STR=.5) but I don't know what the base-base is. Most melee/unarmed builds I see people tossing around are at least based on things like Oh Baby & Love & Hate, not fists-only. I can try to look it up in the editor but right now I'm waiting for some ginormous videos to compress. edit:I should probably say I'm not sure if that's 5 pts of extra dmg. or some kind of 5 modifier, like a percentage. Cantousent Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 That is so funny Tigr. I have an answer for Deathclaws. Alien Blaster. Seriously, Alpha Male? Broodmother? nope. More like piles of blue glowing goo. They're pretty damned tough beasts, though. Tigranes Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 I tackled them on properly when I was about level 24, with Boone, after picking up a Sniper Rifle from the Gun Runners. The great thing was because they're so fast and tough, if you're surprised by them then they could still tear me apart, but if I got the drop on them I could take down 3,4 within seconds. I have the perk thati ncreases sneak attack critical damage by 20%, so after a while, with AP ammo I was one-shotting young deathclaws as soon as they came into field of vision. The bloody cadazors are a different story - I found about ten of them near the mountain near Vault 22(?) and Red Rock Canyon, and had to back off in the end. Couldn't get them down fast enough even with Buffout, Psycho and Rebound. I always think about going for a melee/unarmed character but just can't get into it, in any Fallout. It just doesn't make any sense to me that you'd go kung-fu fighting against people with machine guns and come out tops. I'm thinking explosives then pyromaniac perk next time, then go full evil - FNV quests seem to give you a lot of options to royally screw over several communities. LadyCrimson Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) @thepixiesrock -- Now don't take this as gospel because I'm only guessing based on what I'm looking at, but my impression is that hands-only damage essentially=0 (it may not be quite 0) and all dmg is based on STR and perks affecting the base damage of a weapon. I base this unverified opinion on the fact that despite all the blood spots that appear on his shirt, when I hit either a "naked" Boone or an armored Boone with nothing but my fists (I have 6 STR), I do either 1 dmg or 0 dmg. Critical strikes still did only 1 dmg. (I have no str/dmg/melee perks and my unarmed/melee skills are below 20 on the chr. I used). Boone has STR10, 54 Melee Weapons and 15 Unarmed, and his stat sheet says Melee Damage 5.00 and Unarmed Damage 1.25...which I'm taking to mean that if he were to hit me w/only his fists, he'd do up to about 1-2 dmg. But without knowing more about the math involved I could be interpreting things incorrectly. So if anyone else can come in and show how I'm totally wrong/harder numbers I'd be glad to see it. LadyCrimson Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Btw, boxing gloves do a base 1 dmg according to the geck item file. I'm not sure if this then means Boone would do 1x5 (for his STR) or 1x1.25 dmg (for his Unarmed) or a combo of both. “Things are as they are. thepixiesrock Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Yeah that sounds about right with what I've been experiencing trying to hit people with just my fists. LadyCrimson Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 I play Very Hard/non-hardcore. “Things are as they are. Looking out into the universe at night, we make no comparisons between right and wrong stars, nor between well and badly arranged constellations.” – Alan Watts

Thorton_AP Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 I think Survival's mainly for a certain type of player who really enjoys going out and gathering stuff. Survival is not *needed*, just like other skills aren't needed either. My second character raised it up to the 80s or so. The benefits of some of the food items can be very good, especially at higher levels, which is probably the main draw. It's a very good alternative to medicine, with some alternative uses as well. Only thing is that I wish it had gotten some more use in dialogues, where Medicine shines a lot more in comparison. But yeah, I'm not really a gatherer per say so I found the addition of Survival to be not that exciting overall unfortunately. Survival adds a huge RP element IMO. I liked not eating uncooked food in my first playthrough, and when a single water bottle was restoring over 100 water, it meant that working within the weight capacity of my character was significantly easier. Heck, I even used the recipe to make 30 purified waters from 30 dirty waters.
mkreku Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 I also used Survival when I first played through on hardcore. I have seen no use for it now when I'm replaying the game without hardcore rules though. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!

This might be the first post about Fallout: New Vegas from you that did not contain the word "Boone". What? *looks* Oh no, and I can't go back and edit it now. I was going for a record, too, dang it!....but at any rate, you're wrong, since the first 2-3 days of the game I didn't even know you could hire companions, so I probably made at least 30-40 non-Craigy NV posts! So there. Nyah. And....Boone! Or Craig, if you prefer. Or I could call him Atton2 if you like. So for thirst, does one bottle=one dose or are they reusable if what you need to drink isn't actually 100? “Things are as they are. Each bottle is fully consumed if you drink it. Which means I only ever drink if I shift to minor dehydration (200 level thirst). Food was rarely an issue because I usually ate to heal. Pope Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) I have a question concerning the console. Is it possible to reset a quest completely and finish it another way? I did the Omerta quest ages ago, and finished it in favor of the bosses without realising they wanted to kill everyone on the Strip. Now I've put a lot more hours into the game and would rather have sided with Cachino. I tried the command resetquest xxxxx, and that makes to quest disappear from my log, but Cachino is still nowhere to be found (probably because he's dead). So how do I actually restart it? Edit: well I found a command to set the quest so that I completed it in Cachino's favor (setstage 110a63 50). It's not the same as doing it over, but at least now when I take over the Strip, there'll be some people left. I'm just hoping this won't lead to game breaking bugs because Cachino is still dead whilst he shouldn't be. Can anyone tell if he'll reappear later in the game if you help him? TheHarlequin Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) Ok finally bought and started playing the game. Since 2 PC patches have been released figured the big stuff has been fixed by now. Played all day yesterday and yet to experience any CtD or serious quest bugs. Some minor bugs but nothing the make the game unplayable or breaks it. That said I am taking a merc out for revenge path. Don't really care who I work for as long as I get to my killers. Best offer wins my muscle. So far that makes it where the powder gangers hate me, but so far all other 4 factions I've come across either are neutral to me or have a like to me. I am sure it's only a matter of time before I come to a cross roads and that changes however. I just got to the point in the main quest where I found out mr. pin suit is in vegas at the tops casino. But I am exploring the south area first before I make my way to the strip, racking up some xp and lvls. As I have a feeling I will need them. That said am I to assume no bobble heads in NV? Or any large way to up my stats like in FO3? Gfted1 Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 I think FO:NV version of bobblehead is now snow globes. I have yet to find any but I hear there are five to be found with one even being in the starting town of Goodspring. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"

LadyCrimson Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) Did anyone manage to get "Idolized" with the NCR? I probably missed some of their quests in my NCR game but once I reached Liked, even with all the other Fame I received, it never went past that. I may have to reload that series and finish more of their stuff. I did rush the end. Edited November 12, 2010 by LadyCrimson “Things are as they are. Tale Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) I reached Idolized with them both times. The second time even after skipping half their quests (I basically only did the main NCR line and McCarran), never went to Forlorn Hope, Camp Golf, or any Ranger station but Charlie, but I did free Nelson.
