Fallout: New Vegas

I haven't anticipated a game that much since years. It's strange, I feel like a child ~1 week before christmas. How annoying... and everything bores me now. Finished Interstate '76 today again, playing through Commandos, was playing Ghost Recon again, SWAT 4 in Coop, etc. etc. just to waste some time, because I got nothing else to do in the moment anyway.

 

 

That's cool. Just remember that getting too excited about a game usually only leads to disappointment as expectation turns out to exceed reality.

 

I'm looking at NV as fun game that will be nearly identical to FO3, for both good and bad, with a few tweaks and additions. WHich is good enough for me. :lol:

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

Me too. But I try to keep in my head that it's still Fallout 3 in it's core with what we are dealing here. So I don't expect a 180

Except there's a pretty good chance that dialog and quests are loads better in New Vegas, which alone removes the biggest things that bugged me in FO3.

 

I wonder do I need to wait until a UI mod gets released or did Obsidian make it better on PC from the start..

Victor says that his boss is waiting in front of the Lucky 38. Seems fairly obvious who this boss he's referring to is, and gives a whole new perspective on his motivations for rescuing you.

Might as well give first rule system critique.

 

Long Haul

 

Required Character Level: 12

Required Attributes/Skills: Endurance 6, Barter 70

You have learned how to pack mountains of gear for the long haul. Being over-encumbered no longer prevents you from using fast travel.

 

This perk is like custom made for players like me who steal anything and everything. Unfortunately it also means that we get a lot of cash (as well as all the items we could ever need) so barter skill requirement is complitely counter productive. High barter is useful when you barely loot anything and thus benefit the most when you need to buy or sell something.

 

In last Fallout 3 run I had probably over 200 stims, well over 100 all meds and chems and every vendor that I met cleared of all cash. I think I was around level 10 or something and didn't put any points on barter. Fallout New Vegas might be bit more stingy but it's definately rare to see CRPG with enough useful monet sinks.

Isn't that a completely pointless perk? If you are someone who already uses fast travel, all you have to do is load up just short of your carry weight and fast travel back and forth a few times.

 

A better way would have exceeding max encumberance not force you to a slow walk. THat would be useful.

How do you guard against players who are masters of hamstering. Are you supposed to ?. Anyway it depends also on what other perks are available on that level.

Put in scripted events where a NPC suddenly shows up and removes equipment from your inventory.

The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

It will calculate the distance/time and all that still, so stuff like dehydration is still a factor. You won't be able to fast travel if the time spent is enough that you would die if I remember correctly.

Long Haul is a utility perk. The only thing it really allows you to do is carry in one trip what (typically) could be carried in two, three, four, etc. Some people really love the utility, others don't. This often has something to do with the player's patience and/or obsessive nature.

 

And yes, travel time does accelerate your H20/FOD/SLP meters.

Pretty cool though I doubt the game has succeeded in making the Strip feel "crowded", judging from footage we've seen at least. Just seems to be a problem with 3d RPGs in making cities feel like cities (Vizima in the Witcher is about the only one that I think have managed it).

 

In terms of the Strip, I think part of it might be that in post-apocalyptia, there are no cars driving around and so there is more open space. The sound pollution is always significantly less I assume.

 

But I think the most important thing will be whether it feels like there is a wealth of things to do, quests and all that, and just NPCs to talk to. I'm pretty hopeful in that regard. In terms of looks, I think they've done extremely well in capturing Vegas (coming from someone who's never been there or never really looked up 50s Vegas and how it looks).

This reads pretty nice. Makes me want to do such a trip as well. But most likely I would die on the first day, because of something silly...
