Ever since I moved to the DC area and started my current job, every single snowstorm with sufficent severity to potentially close federal offices has come on a weekend. True to form, a big storm is coming tonight, and it's supposed to keep snowing through Saturday night.

I need to stop for some groceries on the way home. The plan: while everybody else is grabbing milk, eggs, and bread (weirdly, these items always fly off the shelves when a storm threatens; it's like snow = universal time for French Toast), I'll go for the sausages, onions, and ale.

I am also a little nervous about the condition of the slate portion of our roof. It's over 70 years old, and some of the tiles are spalling (flaking away), cracked, or slipping (the iron nails they used in the '30s sometimes rust out from under them). We've been meaning to get it looked at since we bought the place a year ago, but we haven't noticed any actual leaks, so I figured that we could chance another winter. 7-12 inches of snow up there-- cycling through melting in the sunlight and re-freezing at night until we get a good spell of above-freezing temperatures-- is not going to be good for it.

My mother has decided, since the accident totaled her Prius, to not buy a new car at all, even tho she got a nice settlement. Her retirement community has great errand-travel bus service for small things, and she can rent a car once in a while if she really needs one. ...it's probably best...

...I need to grocery shop as well, myself. I used to have a grocery list system, but I haven't used it in a while. Tends to inflate the budget a bit, but it's much more satisfying to have no clue what you're going to do for dinner one week from the next.

Damn, we've had crap-tons of rain: neighborhoods are flooded, the local malls are all temporary swimming pools, its a goddamn catastrophe out here.

In 7th grade, I teach the students how Chuck Norris took down the Roman Empire, so it is good that you are starting early on this curriculum.

We had some holiday stuff at school, then I ate some chocolate, and now I'm watching Aliens.

So for about the last 6 days I've been partially deaf in my left ear becuase I got water in there and then I was stupid enough to try and get at it with a qtip way deep like and I think that only made it worse and now tonight my friend was like lets go swimming after our run at the gym and now I think I got herpies from the spa and to top it off, more water in my freakin left ear from swimming and now I'm pretty much completely deaf in my left ear. And now I'm angry.

There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.

i used to get swimmer's ear every summer because my ear canals are sort of crooked and water doesn't drain. got used to it, though i missed a lot of summer swimming. there's probably some inflammation, which will make you deaf in an ear, and you probably ought to see a doctor just to make sure you didn't do any real damage.

I'm hunting trolls in Helsinki, I'm going to track down Purkake when I go to Estonia on Tuesday... I hate Trolls THAT much

I came up with Crate 3.0 technology.

Crate 4.0 - we shall just have to wait and see.

I like it actually, it's relaxed, slow pace, everythings about evenly matched in price as it would be in the Guildford/London area. People are very friendly and responding well to my ignorance of the Finnish language by speaking to me in English, which I like because Finnish is a damn complicated language much as with Estonian, but I can speak very very basic Estonian.

I don't see how it's all that different to any other place in regards of stuff to do, the craft market is nice, and there is a rock club round the corner from the Hotel, and pleanty of places to eat. I love cold weather, I respond to it in the same way most folk do the heat.

The most exciting thing in Guildford was the strip club, that's now a Casino. I hate London, so don't expect me to have anything nice to say about that hellhole. I could happily live in Helsinki and work for a Finnish based games company like Remedy.

So basically, yeah, I like it here.

We got some new kitties and they've been playing like kitties do. I like to use keys and lasers to amuse them.
