May be they have a trade association that makes sure everything is compatible, that's how things work now a lot of the time. More loot is good, ME didn't have enough interesting loot.

Agreed. Different armor pieces is fine by me. More weapon customization would be nice too. Scopes, laser sights, anything.

thank christ for the QA section, i do not want to replay mass effect just to get things how i want for the sequel! ESPECIALLY if i want to play the sequel twice to see two different versions (which would then need me to go back and replay mass effect AGAIN for the second version ugh)

Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.

I wonder if the Wrex story line plays a role? I found that to be interesting.

Quote from IGN Hands on preview:

BioWare showcased one cutscene from the game two different ways, one with the Krogan Wrex still alive and another with a character that killed him in the first game. The differences are drastic. It's clear that your game will more and more be yours alone as the Mass Effect trilogy continues

I'm wondering how extensive the questioning is. I'm still going to finish my playthrough of the game to make sure all the choices I want are acknowledged. For example, on Noveria, you could help a certian opprative with corruption in the administration, and as she hauls another character away she mentions what if she ever meets the Commander again, she owes her a drink. Little things like that won't make it into a Q&A, so I'd be left with the default choices.

"People are going to die in the end, as the result of your decisions... it's unlikely that you'll get through the game with all your favorite players, and in some cases, if things go really bad, even your character - Commander Shephard - will die a permanent death. That's actually meaningful, because there's a post-game where you can finish the story and go back out with whoever survives and just keep playing. "

Mac Walters added, "Every death is due to a decision you made, but that decision might have been a while back. Some of those decisions are that you decided to do something, and five hours later, x dies, because you failed to prepare or you made a bad leadership call. The consequences are spelled out, it's not like we ambush you. In some cases, we were worried that we were being a little too heavy-handed, but I don't think so."

I like this.

More games should take the leap of faith and get characters killed based on choices that player made. This is much better then option just to kill some NPC without any chance because writers precious storyline "required" it to happen.

Let's play Alpha Protocol

Interesting... so this is then Cannon for Mass Effect?

I like my nicey nice happy happy ending save game. Oh well. :/

It's the default if you don't import a game. Using the word 'canon' will get you torn to shreds on the ME BioBoards, so forgive me as I reflexively cover my head.

So I can't even choose to play female shepard without importing another save?

Yeah, they have to let you change gender, class, and appearance, at least.

No, I'm sorry if I gave that impression.

What I listed are all the default options. You can build a custom (gender, class, apperence) Shepard. We don't know what events the Miranda conversation changes.

Hmmm, we'll see then. I'll probably get it for the 360 just to be sure.

LOL really? I pretty much stick to Patric's Blog... and avoid the Bio boards. Maybe they have all the crappy endings, in that you first play ME1.. and make it more better, and then import your game... for the happy shiny experience? :p

I still need to make my NO romance save... but it utterly pisses me off the only way to do this is to NEVER EVER EVER talk to Ashley or Liara. I'm a dialogue wh0re and this is utterly frustrating. Why why WHY didnt Bio add one simple fracking line for Ashley "I like you uh... but not THAT MUCH!". bleh.

I went to Patrick's blog and found something I'm glad to see. He's replaying ME 1 and commenting on it.

"But anyway, I was talking about the original Mass Effect:

Holy sweet mother of heaven, that first couple of hours has too much talking. Great on the first playthrough, invulnerable to the magic X-X-X-X skip buttons on the seventh or eighth. I'm fully aware that as the guy who had to play this when there was no sound and only placeholder animation, I am a bit jaded when it comes to these groundbreaking cutscenes and dialogs. That said, I'm only on my second real playthrough, and I can only imagine what people on the tenth playthrough are doing. In Mass Effect 2, we can skip cutscenes, and there are far fewer non-skippable conversation lines, at least right now, and I hope we manage to keep that when we ship. Our big plot dialog is also a whole lot shorter, at least if you want it to be shorter. So there: win.

And then there's the loading. How many times have I run into a weird pause while we loaded a new area? How many elevators did I ride even on my quick-and-dirty playthrough to unlock and hammer AI Hacking as quickly as possible? It was a massive improvement on the clunks and crashes before we released ME1, as I remember, and still... I look at it now and can't imagine how we thought it was okay. What we have now, the clever layout of loading tunnels and carefully checked art and conversation assets -- it works. You run around seamlessly. People are going to pick up ME2 and, well, ideally, not even notice this, because what this is is the absence of something bad."

Sounds like good news. It's nice to know they can actually see their errors and work on them.

BTW, you can replay ME with the same character, right? Will ME 2 check the last play through of a save?

Yeah, you even get to keep the equipment you had in previous game except omni-tool if I remember right. Every time you finish the game, it saves automatically separate final autosave, so you can pick any of those final saves when you start ME2.
