Gfted1
Do we get personal force shields to go along with the regenning health and unlimited ammo? Perhaps our own Death Star orbiting high above? Now you're just being silly. Tale
Valve didn't make Portal, they just merged the Narbacular Drop team and integrated the game idea into their overall world. Sort of. They didn't make it per say, but without them the Portal that we know and love would have probably never happened. Valve did make it. They hired the Narbacular Drop team, but it's not like the Narbacular Drop guys were the only ones who worked on it. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater." AStanton
Not realy, Automatic Health Regeneration and Unlimited Ammo in FPS is same stupidity as Autosolve Button in Puzzle Games... Actually I don't quite understand the uproar unlimited ammo regularly creates. Most shooters (survival and tactical shooters aside) already have unlimited ammo, i.e. they throw so much ammo at you, it might as well be unlimited. And as a side note, the way ammo is handled now makes games damn predictable. I still remember HL2, where you pretty much knew in advance what's going to happen, just by the ammo that dropped. Zoma
Fear 2's out. No one played it yet? Also, they say that an European game, Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason is an awesome FPS horror game similar and better than Condemned: Criminal origins. Anyone could confirm the gameplay? I'm not going to go as far as Mamoulian in condemning other shooters, but the Battlefield series has always been a very different type of FPS. It is slower paced, more strategic, and it has always been quite rewarding for me to survive for long stretches in a battle, relying on ammo dumps and medics to recover after a fire fight. Most shooters have quick deaths, quick respawns, and maps that are small enough to get back into the fight immediately.
Slowtrain
Let's just make shooters where you can't die at all. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that. Morgoth
Call me old-fashioned, but I like it the most how FEAR or HL handles death. When you die, you die. Quickload follows. No autocheckpoints, no Halo-like recharge of Health and no other dumbed down nonsense. Edited February 11, 2009 by Morgoth Rain makes everything better. Purkake
Yeah, making the respawn/reload make sense in-game hasn't worked out very well so far.(at least not better than just reloading) I wonder why developers feel the need to make the respwning/reloading anything more than what it is - a retry. The idea is that you don't want to die/fail and try to avoid that. No need to sugarcoat what is essentially just a reload.

"sweep and clear" Yeah, but if this keeps up and there will be no penalty for failure, then games themselves need to change, a lot. If Halo 7 will be just a shooting gallery with pretty graphics then they might just as well ship the game with two discs: Halo 7 - The Movie and Halo 7 - The Multiplayer. Hurlshort
I think we are getting multiplayer and single player games confused here. We were talking about BF1943, which is a strictly MP game.

We were talking about BF1943, which is a strictly MP game. Morgoth mentioned quickload, so I though we were talking about single player. Multiplayer is easy: when you die you respawn after a period of time or at the end of the round(CS), what's the big deal? EDIT: apparently this grew out of unlimited ammo discussion. This thread is so off the rails that in a parallel universe there is another thread like this and that is ALSO off the rails. From what I've heard there won't be any new campaign's though, just 2 existing ones available in versus mode and a "survival mode". Hope that TF2 Scout update comes soon...
