Moatilliatta
Sexy Bioware people are sexy while rambling about Dragon Age. I've only skimmed this, but it seems that we'll be forced into being a Spectre Grey Warden in DA:O and I must admit that I'm getting a wee bit annoyed about Bioware abusing this story-telling technique as I personally find it to be horrendous. Am I the only one who sees this forcing the player into an organization as an extreme faux pas?

Am I the only one who sees this forcing the player into an organization as an extreme faux pas? Hmmm. Good point. At the moment I'm assuming that this demo shows one of the 'origin stories' for the new player (apparently player-chosen backgrounds make a massive difference yadda yadda). Of course, it could be that you choose an origin story but still have to become a Grey Warden or whatever anyway, what we call in my job "a self-licking lollipop." :: shrugs :: Still, I'm loving the gameplay video, the item and spell icons and the whole groove of the thing. I know it's wishful thinking, but I'm getting that BG3 feeling. The screenshots remind me of a bit of love for the IE married with some ToEE action. Which is a good thing. Tigranes
Being forced to join the Wardens can't be any more restrictive than being forced to be a Bhaalspawn. Aren't they sort of like individual special agents anyway? And, obviously, you'll be even more special and individual! It really depends on the implications to your actions and choices during gameplay, and sometimes, a level of restriction is necessary and benefitial. At least Sandra won't tag along. It really depends on the implications to your actions and choices during gameplay, and sometimes, a level of restriction is necessary and benefitial. My character joining the wardens implies a lot, much more than him being a Bhaalspawn does. The Gray Wardens are a palladin like group, and I don't think it to be assuming too much that any character joining them will agree with their palladin like demeanor or at least their goals to some degree at some point. This means that my characters personality is already decided to some degree and I find that quite horrible. The whole bhaalspawn thing on the other hand doesn't decide anything but my characters birth and certain inborn traits. You would have more of an argument with the little backstory blurb that BG fitted my character with. The difference between that and DA is that it is backstory and has zero effect in any way. Also I liked Imoen well enough so it was mostly quite acceptable. Am I overeacting? It's possible that I am, Mass Effect makes me doubt it though. At least Sandra won't tag along. Who the hell is Sandra? Have I missed something?

Moatilliatta
Oh... Does it show that I never cared much for NWN2? Crappy farmgirl was alright in my opinion as she didn't push another character out of the party (or did she? I can't remember) and as such wasn't annoying. She was pretty bland though. Pidesco
I liked her too. I thought she was a great character even if her tagging along felt a bit contrived. RangerSG
Compared to pyro-sorceress and oh, I can't tell he's going to betray me Ranger, Shandra was a dream. I actually felt gutted when she died. And yeah, I really didn't like Shandra's character, but I don't think I would have liked the contrived nature of the forced NPC even if it was someone I liked, like Sand. Hell Kitty
I find my character being "forced" into doing things, going places, or dealing with certain people when they might not otherwise, far less contrived than things always going as I, the player, want them. Moatilliatta
The Gray Wardens are a palladin like group They are? Well then, crap. According to the gamespot thingy that I posted on the last page, yeah. I guess that I should mention That David "-the-Pooh" Gaider has written some words on the subject on the oficial forums: Do we actually know that the Grey Wardens are a human organisation? They are an anti-darkspawn organization. And the story will take you where it needs to go, and it will make sense then because it will be in context. Trying to make sense of it when you have no context is just going to be frustrating. I know you guys will do it anyhow, but I simply advise not getting too far ahead of yourselves.
Hurlshort
Gray Warden doesn't sound very Paladin-like. Did you consider the Spectres a paladin-like group? I thought they were more like a "protect the council by any means necessary" group. And even then, you didn't need to follow the mission statement. Moatilliatta
I wouldn't know as I'm just going by what gamespot employees (granted, a relatively crappy source) say and what the Bioware site says: Grey Wardens They are the most elite and feared of warriors, dedicated to the destruction of darkspawn in all human lands. The centuries of peace have left them all but forgotten. The Grey Wardens have kept watch through the ages, well aware that peace is fleeting, and that their enemy will never truly be defeated until the last of the old gods awaken. Also, I'm personally against any kind of forcing of characters personality even if it doesn't force all that much. And no I didn't consider the Spectres paladin like.
