What are people's thoughts on the old game Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor? A remake of it has been announced, and so I'm now curious about the game, having never cared about it previously. Is it just a dungeon-crawl? Heavy in combat with little/no story?

Unless there's a separate project I'm not aware of, this just seems to be the old game patched up just enough so people won't refund it immediately due to crashes after buying it.

As Humanoid said, it is a re-release with all bad stuff fixed. As far as I remember, the game got more hate than it deserved when it was released, mostly due to technical issues. It was the first D&D 3E game on the market, and it was turn based, I actually liked the way, how the combat and the movement around the battlefield was implemented, but I have never gone through more than few areas. If all the bug of the original build could be fixed, it might not be a bad game to pass time.

The GOG page says "Timed-action combat system." That itself will very likely make this a 'no' for me. (

I will recommend you to check some let’s plays, after it gets released. I really do not remember the specific combat, as it is more than 20 years, when I played it. All I remember from that game is, that I pretty much liked it at that time, and I would swear, that it was turn based combat reactive to attacks opportunity. But as I said, after more than 20 years, my memory might be a little bit off.

Wiki says it was turn based, and that's what I remember as well.

Marketing thing I think, where they wanted to imply its combat was more like Baldur's Gate's 'real time'/ simultaneous turn based system, since it was the big seller.

Well, I interpreted this as turn-based combat but with a timer on your turn. That would be the worst of all worlds for me.

I will definitely be playing it, any re-release of these classic D&D games is always fun

I dont think I played the original?

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor hat the best bug ever. You uninstalled the game, which was very likely because it was pretty bad, and it would kill your entire Windows installation with it. For the sake of reproducing the fun of the original, perhaps it would be good to include that particular nasty as well. :p

Hehe, yeah, people are talking about that bug a lot in the game's Steam forum, and SNEG commented they will definitely make sure that bug doesn't return. 😄

Electronic Arts Goes Private As $55 Billion Sale Is Final...

As of the closing of trading on Tuesday, August 4, the sale of Electronic Arts (EA) to the Saudi Arabia PIF has been completed.

Tbh, that could just be a good thing for it.

"because they filled mommy with enough mythic power to become a demi-god" - KP

(5 days to go).

The game industry has a problem. Too many people are out of work. Reports say 33% of the industry lost their jobs in the last two years, and the jobs they could fill are disappearing as CEOs try to replace them with AI. It's hard for companies to adjust to the new shape of the game industry, but even harder for the people they should be employing.

Just recently we've seen massive layoffs at Ubisoft, Microsoft, and many others, with thousands of game developers, many with 20+ years of experience, out of work.

To address this in some small way, we have created a bundle with almost 150 games. The proceeds of this bundle will go toward a hardship fund for those experiencing layoffs. Individual out of work or under-employed game developers can apply to this fund and use the money for things they need, like food, healthcare, and rent. (This fund is not for companies.)

The fund will be run and dispensed by United Videogame Workers, a union benefiting game developers. They are local 9433 of Communication Workers of America, and a 501 (c)(5) organization. Due to the nature of their jurisdiction this fund will only be available to developers in North America (the U.S. and Canada). They also have a FAQ about who's eligible and how.

Thanks to all the participants in the bundle who donated their games, and to you for donating! Please donate above the limit if you are able, and let's help as many people as possible!

Game industry hardship fund: 127 items for $10.00

While it does not address the underlying issues of job security and sustainable development (nor $200K can do much given the number of people affected), it is something and the games are quite decent (Lucah and its sequel are fantastic action games). I found these articles quite relevant and interesting:

Titan Quest's 2 latest big update added a Spirit Mastery, which finally sounds like a more serious "summoner" tree.

I haven't touched the game since I bought it on ea-release and ran it for maybe 90 minutes to make sure it would run on my PC. I'm still trying to wait for it to be finished. It's not the kind of game I'm likely to replay 30 times (maybe once or thrice) so I don't want to get bored/annoyed of it during ea. Not expecting spectacular, it'd just be nice if it was "decent."

Still gaming with my 9900k/2080ti/32 ram.
