US Senate approved 60 billion USD for Ukraine 💪

Can this still be blocked by MAGAs in the House of Representatives?

Doubtful it'll get past the House - https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/02/12/house-ukraine-johnson-senate/

Surprised it's still not done yet.

Also, points for creativity, I guess

Unfortunately it will get blocked in the House and this is  another  example  of the political  inconsistency in Congress

Avdiivka looks like it's lost, probably. Shouldn't be a huge problem if so though.

Remember GLSDMB ordered by US for Ukraine one year ago?
Seems they are finally arriving.

Now if that aid bill ever passes they might even be delivered in volume.

That should not be a problem, if I understood it correctly, they have been already paid for, when they were ordered.

correct me someone, if I am mistaken about that.

Hmm. The ABC report says it's nuclear, though as with Reuters from old friend 'anonymous sources'.

(Good thing it's not the British MoD saying anything or I'd suspect it's Shovel Deterrence Initiative/ Putin having launched a mysterious yellow object into the sky early August 2023 that creates tactical undergrowth to selectively hinder Ukrainian counteroffensives)

Maybe they had a look at old Operation Starfish videos and decided they needed a giant EMP in space too? Just to take out all those pesky western communications and intelligence satellites?

Interesting observation I've made: non-native English speakers with a decent grasp of the language tend to make fewer slips like this because they haven't grown up in English-speaking places where you just pick up words without seeing the spelling. And given that English spelling has almost unparalleled confusion potential, the odds of you making slips tends to increase if you don't learn the word and its spelling at the same time. (I would probably kill it at spelling bees by virtue of this fact alone.)

In this case it's also the NZ accent's vowel drift results in pronouncing eminently and imminently exactly the same ('uminuntlee'). Forum writing is a lot closer to speaking than formal writing is so you tend to 'hear*' the right word even if you've written the wrong one.

*pronounced 'hee-uh' since we love a good diphthong and bad ones even more. Also pronounced identically: hare, hair, here and even heir.

Yeah, the NZ vowel drift was sheer hell for me for about three days after coming into the country. For some reason, I found it a lot more difficult than, say, the Scouse or the Scottish accent. But then something just clicked and I got it.

Interestingly, this "clicking" was identical to what often happens when you practice, say, an instrument: the sudden leap does not happen while practicing but inbetween sessions. You labour on something for a while and get nowhere, but the next time you return to the instrument, you've got it. Which is why half an hour both in the morning and in the evening tends to bear more fruit than a single one-hour session a day.

I still remember some Kiwi colleagues laughing at me when I tried to explain the plot of the old John Carpenter movie "The Fog". I'm sure my pronunciation was correct, but they wouldn't listen, just rolling on the floor, giggling uncontrollably 😖
