Happy Thanksgiving

Have a great Thanksgiving.  My friends in the Great White North have already celebrated theirs.  Hopefully, they found much for which to be thankful.  For those in other countries around the world, may you find cause for celebration.  May your homes be filled with warmth and happiness.  As Lincoln might say, may we all be touched by the better angels of our nature.  Fair winds and following seas.  God bless you all.

Bah humbug.  .... Oh wait, wrong holiday. ;)

A toast to good food and the warmth of loved ones.

I'm taking Sunny & Bella with me to the VFW in a little while. We'll have our Thanksgiving there. Deep fried turkey, smoked ham, lots of sides and I'm bringing desserts. I ordered a large sweet potato pie, pecan pie, apple pie, and a pound cake from the Kroger Bakery. We are celebrating together with the American Legion and Marine Corps League this year so it should be a pretty good turn out. Afterwards I expect cigars, expensive whiskey and football long into the evening. I only wish Tommy were here.

Hope you all have a good turkey day, means a calm day at work for me.  Black Friday deals are pretty uninteresting here, sadly.

I've always wanted to try deep fried turkey, but I've never had the opportunity. I'll get around to it one day.

Happy Thanksgiving!

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

Spatch****ing and smoking/grilling a turkey. The only thing I'm making this year and it feels weird since I'm normally making almost everything myself

And to repeat myself every year, if you make your own turkey then I'd highly recommend spatch****ing it. It cooks faster and comes out better much, much easier.

I was planning on frying a turkey again this year, but it's raining in my neck of the woods which means either using the patio eaves as cover, and I'm not keen on having wooden structures quite that close, or risking cold rain falling into the peanut oil, which... well...  you know.  Either way sounds like a great way to end up on the news.

That's dinner this afternoon at the out-laws house.  I'm currently thawing a goose that I'll either roast or smoke next week.  I'm much more looking forward to that.  Water fowl has a distinctive texture and flavor I quite enjoy.

EDIT:  to clarify,  geese are fowl, not foul.
