Lexx Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 Sure, but it still sucks so hard here, because the game is GOOD, but it wouldn't have been hard to make it even better. The worst offender is the Guarma part. It's... so bad. Pure railroad shooter that adds absolutely nothing to the game. Would have been better to just skip this part, imo. Humanoid Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 I wasn't really aware of how combat heavy the game is, which probably isn't surprising as my last two experiences with their games was about 1 hour of trying San Andreas, and maybe 5 hours of tooling around in Vice City. Certainly puts a dampener on things knowing that. L I E S T R O N GL I V E W R O N G

There's also a drunken chase as well! And a few others. Lexx Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 (edited) Sure. But to me, the combat in story missions is usually nothing but a boring slog. It needs balance. Oh god, especially Guarma... not sure if I will keep playing once I hit that chapter again. What I also noticed again yesterday is how... extremely touchy some elements are. There was a guy asking me to escort him to Strawberry. Sure, I'll do it. He didn't want to get on my horse, so I decided to lead my horse and walk beside him. Worked for a few minutes, then suddenly my horse bumped into him a tiny bit and that guy completely freaked and ran away as if I'm the devil incarnate. Then I got attacked in Valentine by some O'Driscolls. THEY attacked ME. I defended myself. Suddenly deputies all around, starting to shoot at me for whatever thing I did wrong in that scene, I really don't know. Then we have the touchy bounty system. Do just one thing wrong and you get a $5 bounty, then $10, then... well, I ended up with a $85 bounty for running away. It hurts, because I'm never really rich, especially not in the beginning. These are all elements that could have been tweaked, but as far as I am aware, the only patches R* released were for Online. The singleplayer is pretty much abandoned by them. It's pissing me off, because the game is good, but it could easily be even better. MedicineDan Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 (edited) I have a couple of complaints about Deadfire but I'm too lazy to detail all of them. I will cite merely two, and probably not the most irritating two. First, can Aloth not target one enemy with a handful of his mates in the target area? I like boarding battles, but the AI is idiotic. Now, for the impetus behind this post: I like Maia. Honestly, she's not only a cool NPC but also a useful companion in battle. That reposition and shoot is awesome. Essentially two attacks every round for most battles. However, "forecastle" is pronounced "FOLK-SiL." Come on, damn it. She's a sailor! Meanwhile, I finished *a lot* of the game and it's simply brilliant. I really loved the first game, but the alacrity with which the population jettisoned the gods was simply amazing. The new game addresses that really well. Bringing back Eothas is simply brilliant. I'm not using spoirel tags for that because 1, the game has been out forever and 2, Eothas' return is a fundamental part of the game from teh outset. I like the fact that the most 'politically correct' solution *not* always works best. This is truly a phenomenal game. Seriously, any game that steals sleep so I can keep ahead of project deadlines has something going for it. It's addictive in every sense, both good and bad. EDIT: not at my best, but I added a word that makes all the diffrerence to the meaning. Edited October 10, 2019 by MedicineDan 3 "Not for the sake of much time..."
bugarup Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Stygian dev promised manual saves, so waiting continues. Meanwhile in Athkatla: † Traps are hilarious. R.I.P. Firkraag, you really should have paid attention to dudes installing something right under your soft belly for a couple days in a row; † Totemic druid's shadow bear tanked six greater mummies. Alone. Killed them all. No scratch on him. And that's on level they're supposed to start lagging behind. I should've played this druid in BG, too bad I cannot replay it because, you guessed it, BG sucks. I'm not that far in Siege yet, mayhap I should reroll the character? † And speaking of Siege of Dragonspear, I like it so much more than BG1 it's not even comparable. Everything is better, take that BG cultists who also are BG purists. Goblin companion rocks. † I don't find Aerie annoying anymore, she's like well-behaved but very timid child, I don't have the heart to hate that. Anomen, though, is ten times as insufferable as I remember him. I really should try recruiting him with a party that has Dorn in it and gib that arrogant, bratty blowhard.
Mamoulian War Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Started Victoria: Revolutions. So far the most confusing Paradox game for me. Spent around 4 hours on it yesterday, and I still feel, that I do not know, what’s going on. The POP management and army creation is the most confusing part for me. Anyway started with OPM in Germany (Saxe-Weimar) slowly started to build up the economy and then slowly won over and annexed Krakow, Frankfurt and Saxony. So I am currently having 6 provinces and 100k manpower. I am making most of my cash with selling my inventions to Prussia and Austria, and sometimes giving away some of them to Africa countries, to have better chance against their oppressors Still I would need some more provinces, but every other German province is guaranteed by Austria or Prussia, so attacking them, would be fast game over for me Sent from my Stone Tablet, using Chisel-a-Talk 2000BC. Mamoulian War Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 (edited) Well, I've spent 1 more hour with the game. It started to give little bit of sense, and very soon after my yesterdays save, Prussia started war with Austria, first I've sided with Austria, and I was obliterated within few minutes, after reload, I've sided with Prussia, And I was able to annex 8 more provinces from different German states, and I made it among Great Powers I have slowly started to build up my war ruined economy, and prepared to fight against one more German state in the south. Then out of the blue Prussia started war against France, which I've joined, but immediately after the war, Prussia got event, in which they unified Germany. For me, that was immediate Game over I could resist the unification, but having only 14 provinces against this juggernaut would be just a fast Game Over as well I was still able to end up on 9th place in the prestige ranking, which meant 1 place away from staying as Great Power. The biggest negatives in the game, is very weak diplomacy. You can't offer diplomatic annexation to your neighbours, nor ask for reinforcements. The major power in the war must feel like to offer you their units, if you need to defend against big enemy as well. And so on... Anyway, now that I understand the game little bit more, I would probably try to play with some other country, and try to be more warmongering, Thinking about some South or Central American Country. Keyrock Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 I'm making my way through the Not Anor Londo area in Code Vein. There was a definite difficulty spike when I entered this area. The game introduces a bunch of new enemies that are very mobile and some can go mist-form then teleport. I got brutalized pretty bad at first, in no small part to me also trying out a really powerful but also really slow axe at the time. I quickly learned that axe is generally a bad idea in Not Anor Londo, not impossible, but axes and hammers being very slow swinging and restricting your mobility, which is of upmost importance here, is a serious handicap. I wound up changing to a semi-scythe-like halberd I picked up, which swings much faster and doesn't restrict mobility nearly as much, plus it has a really great sliding forward charged thrust attack that has gotten me through some really hairy situations. I eventually also figured out the patterns of how different enemies teleport and developed strategies for dealing with them. 1 on 1 I can pretty much whoop most enemies here now, so long as I stay sharp. If I have to fight 2 at a time it gets much harder but still manageable. Anything 3 and above becomes super hectic, so I gotta be real careful to avoid those situations as much as possible. This area is a labyrinth... I mean, the whole game is a labyrinth, but Not Anor Londo takes it to the next level. It's very easy to get lost and disoriented here and the fact that you're almost always near insta-death ledges just ups the ante. I think I have finally found the door to the boss room, but I still need to do some work to open said door.I'm looking forward to finding out what fiendish enemy lies in wait behind that door. 1 RFK Jr 2024 "Any organization created out of fear must create fear to survive." - Bill Hicks

Keyrock Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 I defeated Argent Wolf Berserker in Code Vein. I had a ton of trouble with this boss fight. One of the big issues is that he has A TON of reach with his attacks and you are forced to fight him in a small arena, so it's nigh impossible to create distance. It took close to 10 tries for me to get the job done. The winning strategy wound up being sticking really close to him and trying to get perfect dodges (easier said than done). If you can stick right next to him and pull off perfect dodges it becomes easy to get behind him and backstab him for big damage and a chance to stagger him. 1 RFK Jr 2024 "Any organization created out of fear must create fear to survive." - Bill Hicks

Hawke64 Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 Completed GreedFall on Extreme. Firearms and explosives seemed to be the most effective approach. Also I discovered that if you fail to convince a faction to help you in the final battle, they give you some unique equipment.

bugarup Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 Today I learned that "boring beetle" isn't a beetle that's dull and uninteresting, but the one that drills holes. I was always a little puzzled by the name, but thought it's just a fantasy critter naming scheme. You know, owlbear, displacer, mimic, that kind of stuff. And since they are usually found in the company of bombardier beetles I could see how they'd look boring in comparison. In other words, I'm still traipsing about gates of Baldur. 3
Chilloutman Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 so GoG have discount on Deadfire so I guess I am going to give it a shot. Any hints on what might be good RP class?
