  1. Actual formation pikes are like 15-20 ft. long. PoE's pike is just a long spear, just as the poleaxe portrayed within it is really just a big axe. However, it really would be nice to have a proper lucerne hammer show up in the game.
  2. Nah, it's always the rogue. Make the Monk companion in the expansion heartlessly evil instead. I'd prefer to see the evil Barbarian myself. Oooh, but a Conan-style warrior-philosopher. Not a survival-of-the-fittest type like Durance ... maybe a sort of Hobbesian/Legalist believer in absolute authority and the merciless, violent assertion thereof, who defers to the Watcher as his personal Leviathan? All like,
  3. Chant linger is not affected. Since the levelup tooltip says it should, it's unclear whether or not this is a bug.
  4. The OP (and others) are expressing a desire for companions who are a better natural fit for such evil PCs, and/or a cynically disapproving complement to their good PCst. Characters the like of Korgan, Edwin, or Viconia - all perfectly believable characters, with less-than-kindly inclinations. Or, as the kids put it: jerkwads. Well I have a mild spoiler about Pallegina that I think most (sane) persons have missed. ... I am surprised, but not shocked. In her rare moments of characterization, Pallegina comes across as entirely devoted to her country, and little else. Even when we first meet her, it's pretty clear from the way she's ... ... that she is impressively merciless. Brotherhood of Five Suns ... Diplomatic/Aggressive, anyone?
  5. Yeah, that's a solid tank spread. Personally, I'd dump Dexterity and bring up your three good stats to max, though - using Sword-and-Shield style makes up the difference in Reflex, and you'll be a better tank overall. Unfortunately, Cruel/Aggressive/Deceptive largely come down to, "I am a jerk." Stoic is basically refusing to say anything. Rational tends to be ... actual stoicism, yeah. Clever falls somewhere between, "I make jokes," and "I am abrasively tactless." Passionate translates to, "judgmental ass." Diplomatic/Honest/Benevolent are, for the most part, all the same thing. None of the orders get a ton of special interaction - I'd just go with what interests you.

  7. Hopefully, we'll get hunting bows for priests of Galawain in a future expansion.
  8. I know we've heard that Patch 1.05 is going to be a big one in terms of balance and gameplay adjustments - is there any chance that a tentative list of such changes could be made available to public comment? Obviously not all commentary is equally helpful, but there might be ... I dunno, some critique of value buried somewhere in there. Maybe.
  9. Yeah, see, it's one thing for the foreigners to curse in foreign tongues. But when the game spells "duke" and "earl" as "duc" and "erl," even though the pronunciation and meaning are identical, I kind of feel like the writing is being a little self-indulgent. Just a little. (Now, if it were pronounced "duck," on the other hand, that'd be awesome.) I could be wrong, but I thought those were the old Norman and French spellings of the words we now say as 'Duke' and 'Earl'. I'm sure they are, but using them remains obnoxiously self-indulgent.

  11. I didn't know the Forgotten Realms Lore when I played BG or IWD1. Couldn't have told you the difference between Elminster and Volo and Drizzt Do'Urden looked suspiciously like a developer puked on the keyboard. I couldn't have told you where Baldur's Gate was, where Athkatla was or where they were in relationship to the Waking Sea or Rashamon or anything like that, who the gods where, what their portfolios were or anything like that. For me, as long as there's some context I'll have an idea of what is going on even if the finer details may be lost. 1Planescape and Ravenloft 4 evah In fairness, proper nouns are one thing, but some of this game's made-up words make me want to slam my head against a wall. I can see how they would be even more off-putting for someone at a lower level of reading than I. ************** gref.
  12. I think the best way to do multiclassing in PoE's context would be a lot like 4E - do it through talents. Have a single gateway talent for each class, of which a character could only take one, allowing limited access to the abilities from other classes. (And then allow characters to dual-wield wands, so that I can build a delicious dual-wand monk with Blast.)
  13. Right up until Planescape got a hold of it.
  14. Yes, it is true that Cruel/Deceptive characters get access to impressive stat boosts. Eating people's souls: it pays. /le shrug
  15. Eeeeh.. I never really felt that at all. But.. I'm not going to get into it, because it's pretty blatant spoiler territory. All I'll say is that by the time I got to Defiance Bay, I no longer had any idea why I was doing this or why I should care. But when it comes to "evil friendly", oh god, Planescape: Torment. That treatment of Dak'kon. The game doesn't bring the point up as often as it should, but the protagonists awakening will eventually drive him insane unless he resolves whatever issue it is that caused him to be awakened in the first place. Yeah ... not only does your PC have good reason to believe that's not actually the case, they have the opportunity to say they believe as much. There's no compelling reason to think Maerwald went insane because of being a Watcher, and not because of his ridiculously troubling soul lineage.
  16. Well, that's because it's a little bit of all of the above, really. "Climate change" is really much more accurate than "global warming." The average temperature is rising, but weather in general is getting more extreme along the way. Or, in simpler terms: it sure was nice when we had four seasons, instead of just "too hot," and "too cold." This one.
  17. Vhat is zis "SEE-EMM" hyu speak ov? Good citizen hyuse only IMPERIAL NONSENSE MEASUREMENT.
  18. You damn kids and your damn full voice acting. Why, when I was a boy, we used to read paragraph after paragraph about walking for ten miles in the snow to get to Thay - and we liked it, too!
  19. One of the mods, Whatshisface, was lobbying for it. Dunno if that's gone anywhere.
  20. I think the issue is that most of the companions are not driven by moral/alignment issues as much as personal loyalties to various factions/people. Frankly, the only Good character is Eder - the rest are all different shades of Neutral, by Great Wheel standards. But Durance is definitely either Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic Evil, and Aloth can turn all Lawful Evil under the right circumstances.
  21. Yeah but in order to get that mod u need to pay for registration with nexus - what the **** You don't need to pay to register for Nexus. You do need to register. But not for munies.
  22. That's when I reloaded after luring the girl to gruesome death. I want to experience all the remaining companions on my second playthrough. --------------------------- I understand why they did this - why companions don't give a damn. So that player has more freedom without losing companions. But there's a middle ground. Doing something a companion despises could cause a temporary debuff to that companion, "bad mood" or similar. When I say "temporary", I mean passage of time would be measured in xp, much like it works with Stronghold. That way you couldn't trivially wait it out, you'd have to play for a while with a weakened companion. It would give you a minor reason to care about their opinions, but wouldn't punish very harshly by making the companion leave. It's in line with BG, honestly. I'm pretty sure the only reason a companion will leave you there, aside from Rep, is Jaheira refusing to fight Drizizzle (which is just weird). It might be nice if companions got upset about certain kinds of rep, though.
  23. Naw, it's pretty big. Offhand, maybe like 13"x20" or so. Assuming you're talking about the Collector's Edition. Chaotic Evil, on the other hand ... well, the Abyss has infinite layers, and each is of infinite size.
  24. I'd think an appreciation thread would be the perfect place to troll, because opinion would tend to be so combustible.
  25. I could swear that I've seen Interrupts break Engagement, just that it's not nearly enough to matter. It disappears for a split second, so I've never been able to actually even try to take advantage of it. Maybe it's an animation error?
