I feel I must also bring up the lack of dark skin portraits. I made a Wild-Orlan and noticed the lack of dark skinned portraits. You aren't gonna find many orlan pictures on the internet; unlike humans, dwarves, and elves. So the new races ought to be the priority.

This. That's exactly what they should do.

The Iraq war was a disgrace, but sometimes we forget just how much

We could debate that, but we'd need a new thread. -
I've had the same problem.

I like the attribute system too.

It is kind of interesting how our policy in WW1/WW2 worked super well for us, and then we never did it again. Oh well. -

The date in which the troops in Iraq left was a date negotiated by the Bush administration. Not that leaving Iraq at that point meant much as most of our troops had already left. As for Afghanistan; Obama escalated the war there. Also, setting a timeline for leaving isn't truly meaningful. There was no united effort from congress pushing for war with Iran. Considering all previous administrations have managed to not go to war with Iran makes Obama exactly the same as his predecessors in this regard. If it's any consolation; Obama did levy sanctions against Iran which is an act of war. I could go on and counter each point, but it would be too much effort. Suffice to say that in truth; the biggest difference between Obama and Bush is presentation. -
Obsidian certainly isn't handling object xp the way they should have. I have to wonder why they chose to remove kill xp, but then make combat such an ordeal. It would make sense to remove kill xp if they were trying to downplay combat, but after playing the beta I know they aren't. In fact; poe probably needs kill xp more than the IE games did.

I hope you're right, but I don't think you are. Maybe I'm just too pessimistic.

ISIS does represent something very important for the Middle East. Once ISIS is defeated (Which will be soon) it will be a symbol for the futility of attempting to restore the Islamic caliphate. Thankfully for the world; ISIS managed to get a lot of naive Islamist to come out of hiding and show themselves. It will make their defeat quicker, easier, and more definitive. -

They won't do that. Sunni radicals tend to be pretty bold on a battlefield. They'll hold their ground for a short while, and once beaten they'll try to withdraw. -

Your impression that we are heroes now is merely an illusion. Obama's foreign policy isn't very different from any of the previous administrations. There have been tactical shifts, but the overall objectives are the same as ever. -
I'll give the beta a first impression score. So far, the beta has been a 2/5. That's not too bad considering it's a beta and the final product will be better. The combat however; I am certain that part of the game is going to stay a let down. It'll be improved, but I doubt it'll be fixed to be satisfactory. Obsidian went their own way with combat, and it didn't pay off. WAY too much micromanaging required in most battles.

Combat feels: Activeness, Speed and Pace.

Yes. Definitely. And it was what a lot of us asked for...begged for, in fact. But now that we've gotten it, I'm feeling a little bit of buyer's remorse. Combat in this game has drained me as a gamer. Every single fight is an extreme tactical affair. I'm not 100% sure that this is an ideal design for a 60 hour game, though. But then again, I'm sure a lot of this fatigue has to do with the fact that I haven't gotten comfortable with the system yet. My party has a crap ton of tools that I'm unfamiliar with which they probably should be using more often. Side note: after a ton of trial and error, I have decided to employ the tried and true BG1 tactic of 1 tank + 4 archers battle plan because combat in this game can be a real complicated clusterf*ck when you've got 4 party members engaging in melee at the same time. On the impressions thread I also stated that the petty battles require too much micromanaging. It's mentally draining and can even be downright tedious. I'm seriously considering putting the game on easy when I'm exploring, and putting it back to normal or hard when a plot-battle starts. -
I kinda feel that the game's encounter system needs re-balancing. Every battle feels the same difficulty wise. I don't feel every encounter should require so much micromanaging; it's kind of mentally draining.

I have to agree with Stun. I was okay with objective xp, but I was assuming "objective" wasn't the same as quest. I just fought like, six lions at once and felt the battle was fairly challenging. I would have liked some xp or something; instead I got barely anything. I thought objective xp would have things like, "Cleared the road for travel +100 Xp", but so far at least objective xp has been the same as quest xp, and I feel it makes combat feel a bit more stale than it could have been. If this is how they're gonna do objective xp; I'd rather kill xp come back.

That post Sensuki, PERFECTLY describes the situation. Well written! -
I decided the best course of action was to gang up on the lions one by one and completely butcher them. Bryy, how could you do that to your own kind?
-
I was fighting some beetles on normal. I was very methodical and made all the right moves. Killing each beetle one by one; at the end I had no stamina damage and plenty of health. Yet, the very moment I killed the last giant beetle; the game said my party died. Very unfortunate.

I'm glad some one likes it. I want it to be like BG. I'll get used to it I guess.

Just read the basics from BAdler. I didn't know the scroll wheel zoomed in and out. I actually play using my touchpad; not a mouse. So I guess I'm doomed. I hope Obsidian adds a zoom-in/zoom-out button. The + - keys would be a good choice.
-
I've been playing the beta and I find the camera to be too zoomed in. As far as I know there is no way to zoom out. As it is; the game feels cramped and constrained. It's hard to capture the IE feel when my characters are about twice as big as they should be.
-
Combat feedback really needs work. It can be hard to tell when I hit an enemy and how much damage I did.
-
I have an issue. Game starts off too zoomed in and thus the character models are too large on screen. I tried to zoom out, but can't. I had hoped Obsidian would make zooming out as easy as pressing the + and - keys, but no luck pulling that off. There is a pan camera option, but I can't seem to get it to do anything with keys. I use a laptop and never played the IE games with a mouse; I use my touchpad. Now it seems I'll be needing a mouse now; too bad. OBSIDIAN! Be like the IE games and allow me to zoom in and out using my keyboard. If you won't do that; at least make the default camera distance further away. I can't stand how zoomed in the camera is. The large size of the character models on screen really kills the feeling of playing an IE game.

it's not surprising really. ISIS was doomed from it's inception. The only question for me is how long until they go into hiding like the powerless vermin they are.
