What's really killing the republican party is their refusal to follow a consistent philosophy. Richard Nixon created an new brand of republicanism that abandoned capitalism in favor of stealing "conservatives" as they inaccurately call themselves; from democrats. It partially worked at first, but here's what Nixon forgot to take into consideration: The Democrats kicked out these buffoons because they were based on a dying ideology and sinking their long term viability. The only reason the republicans met any success is because of the pathetic incompetency of the democrats. Ultimately though; a party needs a core belief system that is viable. The democrats fixed theirs in the 70's. Republicans need to fix theirs now. Most Hispanics approve of removing the laws that prevent citizens from hiring illegal immigrants. Most Hispanics like the idea of making immigration to the US easier. Most Hispanics oppose the border fence. What do these ideas have in common? These are all CAPITALIST positions. If the republican party hadn't abandoned capitalism they would be the dominant party. Instead, they're dying off. Serves them right.

My opinion on asylum: I honestly don't support asylum. It's just more international crap that gets us entangled in diplomatic messes. As far as I'm concerned; let foreigners deal with their own problems. Ironically, I do however want these people to be allowed in. It won't lead to any foreign diplomatic issues; so why not just welcome them?

Objective xp could still reward you for killing beetles and other petty monsters. They may not give you xp, but if you kill enough monsters you might get some kinda title like, "Beetle killer" or something. For example: In a town a npc with beetles infesting her house asks if you have experience killing giant beetles. Here would be your options if you don't. A) Nope. B) [Lie] Sure do. (Whether she believes you is based on RES and reputation) c) Go away. If you have the "Beetle Killer" title or whatever than you don't need to lie. Assuming you have said title or successfully lied than she asks you to clear out her house and offers gold for doing so. Would that make most people happy?

The Official Romance Thread

I recently watched the Gamescom demo. I'm thinking of adding Sassy as a romance-able companion; with a different portrait hopefully. Anyone think that's a good idea? Now this may come as a shock, but if I add Sassy; she will have a sassy attitude. If I do add her though there is a 90% chance I won't actually name her Sassy as that sounds a bit silly, but the name gave me inspiration for her personality. That'll make for an interesting romance. -

In Mass Effect 1 it wasn't an issue, but that game had only 3 romances. You know, the amount I recommended. Mass Effect 2/3 however, had a lot more. In ME2/ME3 exploration of worlds wasn't included. Bioware decided pro-mancers wouldn't be satisfied with 3-4 romances, but instead needed more for some reason. If exploration had to go for the sake of romance spam; oh well. Mass Effect 2/3 had some major failings that I feel wouldn't exist if Bioware hadn't spent so much time and resources on romances. I think Mass Effect 1 handled romances well, but the sequels went too far. -

It may be a small part, but it still takes a lot of development time. It has certainly played a role in the decline of in-depth mechanics in Bioware games. Also, in ME:2/ME:3 it could get in the way of role-playing to a severe degree. I think a major issue is how many romances Bioware makes per game today. Back when it was 3-4 romances per game it wasn't a high price, but now Bioware seems content to spam them. Not only does this lead to a decline in romance quality, but it takes away from the mechanics to an extent that is very detrimental to the game. If Bioware would go back to 3-4 romances per game; I think that'd be an improvement. I don't really think pro-mancers are much better off with 10 romances instead of 3-4. I'll put it like this: A few romances: Pro-mancers Anti-mancers A spam of lower quality romances: Pro-mancers Anti-mancers -

I always like it when a talented artist makes portraits. Gives me more resources for making my character. Portrait looks good by the way. -
The combat isn't RTwP so it hardly deserves mention. Looks like it'll be action oriented; hardly what poe is going for.

A poster named xLegionx started a thread about romance; I assume he didn't know about this thread. I'm posting it here where it belongs: Hi Obsidian! I first off would like to say that I am absolutely amazed by the amount of work and effort that you have put into this game. Its really a big deal for me that you guys are making a successor to the baldur's gate and from I have seen from the game so far you guys have got me super excited and pumped up for this game! Everything I have seen on this game has me waiting in my chair in anticipation for it! Again, I am super excited that you guys are making a game like this and really really can't wait to play it! Now I was watching the gameplay preview on the game the other day on pc gamer on youtube and not only was I amazed by what I saw but one thing that really turned me off was the fact that you guys have decided not to put romance in there simply because it would take too much time. I understand this and quite frankly I have always been a strict believer in the fact that "you have to sacrifice some things in order to make the bigger machine run better" as it were. But to be honest in every rpg I have played I have always enjoyed engaging in romance with a particular character just to make things a lot more interesting than just the main story. Lol its going to kind of turn me off as I play that I can't have a little romance with certain characters such as Calisca I mean look at her portait! Her pretty face sends me swooning through the pretty pink sky like a bird! xD But anyway...I ask you guys to reconsider this course of action. Me and a lot of players do like the idea of engaging in romance and sometimes it can end up being more important than the main story to us. I just feel like its taking off a major attraction to the development of the characters as you progress to the game and they may end up feeling like "bodyguards" instead of actual people you can choose to engage in anyway you see fit including romantic situations. I mean surely I'm not the only one who wants this... -

Not debating with some one spouting nonsense does not prove that nonsense is true. Speak for yourself. I followed the 2008 election very closely and Obama laid out his agenda then. Since being elected he has in no meaningful way strayed from his original platform. If Obama isn't what you were expecting; it means you weren't paying attention to him. Obama is not an actor; he is the president of the United States of America, and deserves more respect than what you are showing him. What was marketing for fools? The Obama campaign? Anti-racist ideology does not present things because only people make presentations. Also, if anyone thought, "a black guy president is better than a southern wasp texan"; I can say with confidence they are not anti-racist. -

I'm not against establishing what the Amish cannot do to us. I am against telling them what to do among themselves. Not all of my fellow Americans are content with ensuring the Amish will not cause us problems, but are instead pushing for the Amish to become more like us. Once at my local market I saw a "social justice warrior" yelling at an Amish man because they are "misogynistic". All he was trying to do was sell some bread; he didn't deserve that lousy treatment. Her way of life wasn't being threatened, but that wasn't good enough for her. I'm not trying to suggest that most (or even many) social justice warriors are like that, but it still annoys me how some people insist we must "uplift" cultures they feel are inferior. -

There are a few, but I'd also look at, say, the Amish in America for example. Its a parallel society that has decided for itself what it needs within the confines of a much larger culture. The Amish are a perfect example of a low-tech sub culture that don't need to told how to live. I personally know a few Amish people and they seem perfectly happy to me. I say live and let live. No need to "uplift" people. Heck, that's how the European conquest of Africa started. Let's not encourage the mindset of, "Our way of life is better than theirs; so they should become like us." It leads to trouble. Just set a good example. If others want what you have; they'll emulate you. Well, personally know a few Amish people may be an exaggeration. We're acquaintances really; not friends or anything. -

Because many want to tell people what to do and how to live. By saying that those who are different than you are "less fortunate" you can justify destroying their way of life and feel like some sort of hero. -

Shawdowrun has been pretty good in regards to tribal societies. I recently played Shadowrun for the genesis and thought the Amerindians were pretty cool. I wish more tribal societies were portrayed like that. -

Interesting. I had heard from a lot of sources that the German army was his main inspiration, but I guess there could be others. I may check those links out. We should always just consult with you, Elrond. You are after all, an actual resident of middle-earth. -

WOW. Just took a gander at this thread. Things have moved on to some serious subject matter. I'll throw in my opinion: Tolken Orcs aren't racist. They were inspired by the German army. Unless the German army is a race; it isn't racist. Any correlation between dark skinned people and the orcs is merely happenstance. If for some dumb reason the Germans had worn bright pink uniforms instead of dark green and grey expect that the orcs would have been bright pink. Tolken did not have dark skinned people in mind when he made his version of the orcs.
