  1. Does having a US syndicated TV show for 5 years really lead to world-wide recognition?
  2. Fair enough. I think 'hard' or 'more accurate science' science fiction is probably going to be more difficult to pull off than space fantasy but could lead to a rewarding story.
  3. Now I've got an image in my head like those movies where everyone stands in a circle holding a gun on one another, only with people holding magical scrolls. "Put the scroll down!" "You put YOUR scroll down!" "Nobody move or I'm reading this scroll...and I'm a trained speed reader!" "On the count of three, lets all put our scrolls down and talk this over like mature adults." "Dangnabit Jethro, you can't dual wield scrolls, you just look stupid, you can't read either one and you're not covering anybody..." etc.
  4. http://deadline.com/2017/04/jonathan-demme-dies-age-73-the-silence-of-the-lambs-1202077725/ RIP Director Jonathan Demme
  5. It *is* as simple as including both "burn to death" and "beat to death" options and just letting the player choose the one that fits their character, however! After all, I can have the guy with 8 Might try to bend those bars, can't I? Why can't I have the guy with no magic try to cast a spell? It is based on your lore isn't it? That said, I'd imagine that a [might] [lore] [scroll-in-inventory] check is getting a bit silly. "Pardon me while I pull this scroll out, so that I may surprise you with a mighty burn".
  6. If we want to abstract things to a biological imperative (such as the initial precis that everything is tied to reproductive advantage), I'd argue that enjoying entertainment comes from the fact that ultimately entertainment is a form of narrative storytelling that ties in with our language processing skills. Since communication is a way to impart knowledge without experience ('don't eat those mushrooms, they killed Uncle Grognark!'), there is probably some tie to our language processing centers and a need to gather information for simple survival that is triggered through communication and manifest itself both in a desire to consume stories (real or fictional) and to communicate with other people (widely or narrowly) as communication serves as a way to pass experience on in the face of being born without broad instinctual knowledge. Or, you know, something.
  7. "Figures often beguile me particularly when I have the arranging of them myself; in which case the remark attributed to Disraeli would often apply with justice and force: 'There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.' " - Mark Twain
  8. I liked Alien Resurrection even if I think it's a mess of a film. A comparison to Terminator Salvation isn't inappropriate, as it is another film with a few interesting ideas that make a jumble sale of a film.
  9. Eh...Classic Science fiction had that though. John Carter meets red martian alien Dejah Thoris, falls in love and marries her in 1912's A PRINCESS OF MARS. I think it'd be hard to argue that it isn't part of the science fiction oeuvre; now whether it should be pursued in a game is a matter altogether different, but to reject it because it isn't "classic science fiction" is a bit silly when it was there since the earliest days of classic science fiction.
  10. But most of it is either lame, a gross simplification or congressional overreach.
  11. I've never seen the appeal of TV Tropes, to be honest.
  12. Oof, that is lovely. I'd love to get my hands on that. Its really nice - I have the smaller softcover they did first; apparently the hardcover is going to have additional writing about the work and photographs (I believe from Mucha's production photos). Andrew Wyeth is considered to be a top US artist. His dad, N. C. Wyeth, is considered to be one of the top US illustrators. His work on TREASURE ISLAND is legendary.
  13. For anyone who is a fan of Art Nouveau, Alphonse Mucha's Le Pater was reprinted by The Century Guild Museum and Gallery. A larger more extensive hard bound reprint is forthcoming. Unlike his typical poster art, or his magnum opus series of paintings The Slav Epic, Le Pater was created as a printed book. Since the original only had about 500 copies made of it, its a new opportunity to see the book as it was intended to be seen (as opposed to the various images taken out of the book setting seen reprinted over the years).
  14. I can't really answer the question, as any game that doesn't have some element that interests me is generally forgotten in the onslaught of game releases.
  15. Locked at thread starters request. See https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/92373-lets-create-an-item-for-the-black-isle-bastards-what-kind-of-item-should-it-be/ for new thread.
  16. IIRC Skaen is scarred as well as missing the nose and ears so perhaps the godlike of Skaen has a body that creates scars and wounds naturally? Maybe they end up looking something like a more natural, less extreme S&M Cennobite in the Hellraiser series?
  17. Yeah super-tech opponents popping up in a high magic world could be interesting even if it wasn't literally the Reapers. Could even bring in the idea of magic and tech not sitting well with each other similar to Arcanum (but hopefully not as broken). Probably not really a Pillars game (or ME) at that point, but it could be interesting.
  18. I believe it's being referred to as an overbooking issue because United followed their overbooking guidelines of first offering an incentive to passengers to take a different flight followed by random selection. Arguably, if your doing logistics right, you would have reserved the seats for flight crews to be moved around, so that they booked those seats could be seen as overbooking, hence the use of the rule. Not an expert though. If one person is allowed to refuse, then they all would be. You then have less of a leg to stand on when you get to the last passenger after all others refuse to be removed, he refuses, and you remove him anyway because your applying your own rule arbitrarily.
  19. Given her fight with the DNC higher-ups and leaving it to endorse Bernie Sanders, I imagine that the Democratic leadership and insiders will look for anything they can to use against her.
  20. Have at thee! Last post from previous topic was... How Germany is effing up Europe if they don't want spent their money to strengthen their own defense? I understand that Nato countries maybe angry if they think that Germany don't do as what has been agreed on, and they are free to kick Germany out if nothing else helps. What? There is so many reasons I can't force myself to point them all out. But at least the basics - If we have agreenment both sides should honour it. Its manners 101 Yes this is what all NATO members should do yet only 5 NATO members are paying what they should and contributing fairly, this includes the U.S., Greece, the United Kingdom, Estonia and Poland. So its not just Germany that needs to pay more http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/NATO-Member-Countries-Trump/2017/01/25/id/770363/ I know, thats why USA requested recently that all members should pay their agreed share, and as far as I know some states responded positively - even tho they stated taht it will take few years. Some may not do it, but at least they are not shouting it into media ffs Considering that Czech uses less of their GDP to military than Germany, I would say that you should complain to your own politician first how your country don't do what is agreed on. I am, but our government promised to raise our funding, besides we are behinde Germany by 0.1 percentage Also the Czech economy and GDP is much smaller than Germany's so I would expect Germany to contribute there share with much less objection we are talking about percentages against GDP. Germany gives much more in total for sure
  21. Topic closed for length. New one open for business here.
  22. In game description for might is: So somehow or another physical strength in the Pillars of Eternity universe seems to stand for muscles and spiritual strength. There could be a handwave to this (something like a body-soul interface that requires physical strength to channel the full magical spiritual strength safely or something while mental strength allows one to channel for longer whatever amount of energy ones strength allows to be funneled through the body) but I'm not sure one is ever made in the game.
  23. This forum is intended to discuss PoE2: Deadfire, to debate its mechanics and story and - at this stage - discuss what we'd like to see in this game. It is not here for posters to discuss each other or to try to tweak the nose of one another to get a reaction. Please modify your posting patterns accordingly, lest the mod team decide that it is time to alter them for you. That people were veering off-topic was already brought up before in this thread - https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/92019-things-you-want-poe-2-to-specifically-avoid-if-possible/page-9?do=findComment&comment=1903849
