  1. you're talking about Wolverine? As I said before, I'm not a Marvel fan, so I'm not familar with the Wolverine back story/history. I guess that's a good thing for me.
  2. You must not be a comic fan. Lucky you. I mean that. Reading the source material of adaptions before seeing the movie always ruins the movie. The first two Harry Potter movies I consider the best ones because I hadn't read the books, after that I read all the books, and not a single movie after has lived up to them. (Chamber of Secrets and Philosophers Stone were actually very faithful though.) Actually, I am a comic book fan and have been collecting comics since the late 70's. I'm more of a DC fan (Batman - my earliest Detective Comic is #45 ), not really a Marvel fan except for Punisher. I understand what you mean though. I read Terminator 2 before seeing the movie and felt the movie didn't live up to the book. There was a bit cut out of the movie which they put in on the Special Edition dvd and they changed the original ending of the movie, which can also be seen in the special features on the dvd. I preferred the original ending to T2, but then there would be no sequels.
  3. Wouldn't it be easier and safer to rent it through a real estate agent? The agents can do the credit and background checks. I rent my 3br townhouse through an agent and he takes care of everything. eg. If tenant falls behind in rent, they will take the tenant to the tribunal to have the back rent paid and can evict the tenant.
  4. Rest in Peace Grasshopper.
  5. I saw Wolverine and thought it was a good movie.
  6. Wow. You just described my childhood from 9 years old when I started playing the Atari 2600 thought the 80's playing my C64 and Atari 130XE computers right to when I was 18 when I left school. I didn't go to College or Uni because I failed at school and had to work in a bookshop but still kept on playing computer games with an Amiga and PC Games and also video games with my SNES. Throughout all those years, I read comic books and still do to this day. Bottom line for me is, I was a Slacker and had no motivation. Sure, I dreamed of things like, earning $50K a year when I left school, owning my own car before I was 21 and having my own home so I didn't have to pay rent. I'm still a slacker but managed to make some good decisions in the 90's with my career (got out of the bookstore/retail sector) and also buying property helped. You don't know what's going to happen in life 10 or 20 years from now. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. I was never concerned about my future and still not concerned because I always believed and still do that 'everything will work out' and it has.
  7. Exactly. Aborigines have lit fires. The Greens don't want any fires. I'm saying, lets go back to the way Aboriginies did it. Exactly my point. My agenda is that lighting fires for back burning is a good thing and also helps australian flora to reproduce. Exactly what you have said. So what is wrong with my 'silly point'? It's the Greens who don't want any fires at all and make it hard to even do the most simple controlled back burning exercise. Also, what kind of zealot are you referring to? What is the opposite agenda to the Greens? Stop shooting your mouth off and explain yourself.
  8. Indeed. I caught up with an old school friend recently and he complained that there weren't many Aussies in the suburb he just moved into, it was mostly Asians. In my experience this is a pretty typical view here amongst white people, that if you aren't white you don't get called an Aussie. How are immigrants supposed to integrate when society constantly insists that they belong to some other group? It's not necessarily white people not calling immigrants aussies, it can also be immigrants who set up communities and distance themselves from being called aussies. eg. Lebanese Community Council of NSW. Why would they call themselves Lebanese? Why not call themselves Australian? They're racial profiling themselves as much as white australians are. The same can be said for any ethnic background who racially profiles themselves from the rest of the community.
  9. I find Anubis to be overated and too cliche. It's good they went with someone else.
  10. I would say that in Australia at least, man is a part of nature and man-made fires is the natural order of things, since the aboriginies have been doing it for 40,000 years. For man to suddenly stop man-made fires in Australia's bushland, is not the natural thing to do.
  11. ^ We had a lot of environmental commentators blaming climate change for the bushfires - even though some of the bushfires were lit by arsonists. Also, Victoria's bushfires have spewed millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere - more than a third of Australia's entire output for a year, according to Sydney University's Professor Mark Adams. The environmental toll ends up worse than the most vigorous prescribed burning regime ever could be http://fw.farmonline.com.au/news/nationalr...spx?storypage=3
  12. Yes, Australia is in a very bad drought, but it's not true about delaying back-burns for 30-40 years. That could be true but on the other hand, there are areas where residents, local council and the fire brigade are not being allowed to meet their targets of hectares being burned. Preliminary findings into the Victorian Parliamentary Enquiry into the 2003 and 2006/07 Gippsland Bushfires, they acknowledged that failures to burn were a contributor to the fires. A recommendation of 385,000 Ha burning per annum was recommended, but has not been adopted. Fuel reduction burns across the entire state have been, in total over the last 15 years, up to 50% below hectare targets. And I think a lot of that has to do with fuel reduction not being met and people not evacuating their homes early. The warning system was held up by the Government. Also, there is a policy by the Fire Brigade of staying to defend your home is the best course of action. There's never been an 'overdone' back burning exercise in Australia. The Greenies have a lot of political power and the Labor Party who are the current State Governments do everything to get the Green vote and their preferences every election.
  13. No, it's very much about the burning of forest fuel. The Greenies hate back burning, controlled burnings of the bushland and forests. Don't be fooled by Greenies saying, 'We're not against back burning, etc'. They're lying. The Greens want all bushland to be untouched - which is unnatural. It's quite natural in the history of the Earth for forest fires to happen. What the greens are trying to do is not let nature take it's course with forest fires, and the ground in this bushland continues to increase with forest fuel which makes bushfires even worse. And the legislation has changed so much that even if the Fire Brigade, Local Council and Residents want an area burned to decrease the risk of bushfires, the legislation can hold up that controlled burning for that area for years.
  14. Travelling around China for 3 1/2 weeks, I didn't miss the internet, TV or phone. However before I left, I had 4 computers (including my laptop) downloading with two turning themselves off after 5 hours. When I got back, there were a ****load of downloads as I left both my g/f's and my own desktops on downloading 24/7 with 45 torrents on each computer.
  15. I loved how Hurley was writing Empire Strikes Back and going to send it to George Lucas with some 'improvements'.
  16. It was interesting to see the difference in rules between Honk Kong officials and Chinese officials (Customs/Immigration) when entering each country last week at the airport and also crossing the border at Lo Wu into mainland china at Shenzhen. When we arrived at Honk Kong airport, we had to sign declaration forms concerning the swine flu. When we entered China at Nanjing airport absolutely nothing to declare - even the food we had in our bags we didn't have to declare. Even, at the border of Hong Kong at Lo Wu entering Shenzhen, the Chinese officials didn't care and never asked, there were no signs or any indication about the swine flu. However leaving Shenzhen to go back into Hong Kong going through Hong Kong immigration, it was very prominent with signs, etc with the swine flu.
  17. I think it was just intuition or a guess and if he was wrong then Sylar can heal himself, but if he was right then he could catch him.
  18. I agree.
  19. I'll be reading some Three Investigator books on the plane to and from China. I'm halfway through Secret of Shark Reef at the moment. It'll allow me to catch up on the books I haven't read yet (about 6 or so books in my collection).
  20. The Customs clearance industry has always been screaming for people in Australia but it's a job which is not widely known. However, I haven't seen it this bad, nearly no Customs job vacancies which is practically unheard of since the last recession back in the early '90s. Fortunately, my main client (importer) has doubled their imports since last year (Mining equipment parts). So, for the moment our company seems to be doing okay. I've heard of other companies in my field that have had redunancies or people taking pay cuts to keep their jobs. Despite this, I'm off to China for holidays this Wednesday with my girlfriends for the next 3 1/2 weeks and stopping off at Hong Kong on the way back for a few days.
  21. I just watched the entire season of Leverage (only 13 episodes) over the last few days and it was pretty good overall. I think the first episode was the best and a few middle episodes dragged it down a little and then picked up at the end of the season.
  22. I feel the same. Other shows like Babylon 5 had terrific endings and I would have preferred Guard Dog's suggestion ending the series at the ruined earth than the one we got.
  23. They always knew how the ending would happen since the first season with Lost. By the third season they had the plot outlined for the next 48 episodes with all the writers.
  24. it's been on on of the showtime channels lately, as i recall. not having plot holes seems intriguing, since so many slasher flicks are one big plot hole with stuff lined around the periphery. maybe i'll give it a watch. taks I saw something somewhere that High Tension got better reviews in Europe than America - maybe because it's a european made movie? You might be disappointed with the twist. For me, I was a little puzzled, shrugged and thought 'ookaaayy - I get it even though there's some plot holes'. I think it was trying to do something different but kind of failed for some people.
  25. I thought High Tension was good with a couple of plot holes, not unlike other slasher films.
