Tonight, I'm going to sing at the penance service. You pagan bastards might know it as 'confession.' You might not be surprised that many dyed in the wool Catholics are not fans of and do not participate in the sacrament. I don't want to engage in a huge discussion of the issue, but I have had two occasions of confession that I thought were life-changing. Just two. Pretty damned good! Of course, while those two instances were important, for the most part it's either depressing or boring and usually quite a bit of both. Of course, if you're in the choir, it's better. If by better you mean singing throughout everyone else's confessions and getting done last and being on your feet belting out depressing songs about repentance for 2 solid hours. EDIT: and in all seriousness, I never miss a penance service and haven't for some time.

Hey, if you keep the flames on low and advocate a position regarding the game, I'm all for folks having a say. Sometimes, a heated debate *can* result in something good. For my part, I don't like the fact that, as Tig says, any bozo who creates a youtube video can have an impact, and some of them are really *really* bad. Do I want to stop people from making youtube vids? Of course not, but while I see the freedom to make them as a good thing, I don't necessarily see them as good in and of themselves. The youtube experience is only as good as the vids, and some of them are bad. ...and therein lies the issue, dean, because the ability to stream (from wherever) is itself a kind of populist movement that changes things just like kickstarter did. So, how do we put *that* genie back in the bottle? ...But the discussion about whether Obsidz should have sent out keys for people to stream is a fair enough topic and as long as you don't go after individuals with pitch forks and fiery brands, why should anyone try to stop you? It will definitely be a topic they'll have to consider and address if they do another kickstarter. EDIT: As an aside, how many people are angry about some folks getting early access and how many folks are angry about that access being flaunted on this specific subforum? Not a rhetorical question! These are separate issues and one of them is far easier to emend than the other.

I actually like the setup myself. Reminds me of Darklands, which was a great game killed by bugs and a few irritating decisions. However, it's not really like the 'you are tired' mechanic from BG. Now, the per day abilities... *those* are certainly like the 'you are tired' mechanic. <.<

Preload ?
Cantousent replied to drunetovich's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I merged two topics that are by and large the same. The two questions revolve around pre-load. One asks if there will be one for backers and the other asked if there would be one for pre-orders. I'd thought pre-orders for STEAM were pre-loaded as I also thought the STEAM backer orders were as well. Tart references a dev up above, so we can certainly hope so. As far as GoG, I haven't heard anything yet, but I'll keep an eye out. -
We need the Spoilers forum fast!
Cantousent replied to PBJam's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Like Red says, this is a matter up for discussion. We're just asking for a little bit of patience. I'm not saying don't post, just keep in mind, we're trying to help out with this issue. Plus, I gotta warn you, that black beast in Red's avatar is her attack kitty and he'll chomp a hunk of flesh out of your backside if you rile 'im up. On a serious note, keep posting if the issue irks you. No one is telling you to pipe down and shut up. Do so respectfully, which is by and large how it's been so far. Remember that some of us mods are PoE fans and backers also and we, ourselves, don't want to be spoiled. When I say we're trying to help you, we're also trying to help ourselves. -
I asked if we could have a pinned megathread for streams. We'll see what admin does, but I would like to make it as easy as possible for folks to avoid spoilers here. :Cant's keeping his fingers crossed icon:

Yeah, I'm with you. I don't want to be spoiled. I want at least the chance to *start* the game before I see any big spoilerish things. Spoilers aren't allowed at all here, but I don't know what they'll decide to do about the streaming videos. If it contains spoiler text, I'll put in tags and move it though.

When I lived in Korea, in all the barracks in which I lived, there was always a local who would do the cleaning, laundry, ironing and whatnot. Now it would just drive me bonkers. I do all the laundry and cooking and most of the dishes around here. We split chores actually fairly well except for cooking, which I have to do if we want anything above the level of boiled pasta, and sweeping and mopping the floors, which I always do.

I have a funny story about the spoiler forum that we used to have in Computer and Console, but way too long to tell. Spoilers are allowed, with tags, in the other PoE forums except for the announcement forum. Frankly, I completely agree with not having spoilers in here. There's been a thread that seems minorly spoilerish in this forum, but no one has complained about it. From my perspective, they could create an entire streaming sub-forum and I would personally never go into it if I didn't have to. For the most part, I don't care to watch a game that I could instead be playing. Unless of course I'm pulling some sort of bonehead move and I need to look something up on the internet about a game. Even then, I don't want a video. I want a text explanation, although sometimes if you're daft enough (and sometimes I *am*), you probably need a video to show you exactly how your head is fitting up your rump when you can't figure out the game.

Yeah, I'm pretty much avoiding looking at things as best I can. I'll probably end up screwed because I'm sure something will get spoiled in approving posts, but I certainly don't plan on watching, reading, or otherwise looking into any reviews. After all, it's not like I need to find out more in order to decide whether or not to buy a copy... or three. I understand that I can be weird about things sometimes, but I don't understand the angst because media people get a shot at the game first. As far as specific members go, it seems that everyone who has access has it legitimately, so no harm no foul. As a backer myself, I don't mind the media getting a whack at the game because it's simply the way the process works. If the backers enjoy the game and teasing the media with a very short window of early access helps sell the game, the backers will be more likely to get more of the same. If the backers didn't know about the early access, it wouldn't hurt them at all. They'd still get the game when it was done and be able to enjoy it just as well. Just my two cents.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I didn't think your initial question was offensive. Your second one sounded a wee bit impatient maybe, but then I found out you work for FedEx and figured you're just used to getting it there *fast!* hehe Anyhow, keep rockin' on, Uther, and we'll be reading beautiful manuals and kicking some monstrous arse any day now! :Cant's Rockin on icon:

Area looting confirmed
Cantousent replied to Infinitron's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
We're happy to have you, backer or not. You're not very good at English? huh? lol Your English is great. Sadly, while I don't like to play low expectations, Something that is surprisingly good will always have that little edge on something that simply meets your expectations, even when you had high expectations. -
Josh Sawyer is a beast!
Cantousent replied to like00111's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hey, you can 'dis' Sawyer all you want, but leave the cats out of it, rat bastards! :Cant's Cheshire Cat icon: -
I am not sure what you are referencing, but Chris didn't write the manual. All digital copies of the game will come with a digital copy of the manual. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, Uther. Just to be clear, doesn't this answer your question? Apparently "[a]ll digital copies of the game will come with a digital manual."

Kickstarter issue
Cantousent replied to Colin Campbell's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Someone else had a similar sort of issue. The word from above is to contact support@obsidian.net directly. Good luck, madcolster! -
hahahaha That made my day. I'm still laughing.

Yeah, I meant her dad. On the other hand, my wife *does* wear the pants in our family.

I always play a wizard, but the chanter class is really kind of a bard+ and the idea of actually playing someone like Homer is really cool. I haven't really had the chance to play much of the chanter I won't touch the beta with the game hitting the shelves soon, but I'm keenly interested to see if it's as powerful as people claim. I plan on playing the Wizard because I always love the class, and a chanter because of the coolness factor. EDIT: Also, since we have a cool thread for first class/party already, I thought I'd merge your topic into this one, Mirandel.

Truly awesome, VeeCee! lol I wish I would have been there. I ate a later lunch with my inlaws and then the wife wanted pancakes for dinner. *Pancakes!* So I made pancakes, quesedillas, and eggs for dinner. Breakfast for dinner for the win.

I tell you what, maybe I *have* misunderstood. I'm going to post this for the whole moderator team to discuss and leave the response up to them. I'm *not* trying to censor you. In fact, ironically, I approved your post just now. I'm just saying, I would much rather members discuss positions rather than personalities. Personally, as a backer and a member of these forums for some time, I haven't personally seen the member in question break what I understand to be standard NDAs. After all, the backer beta doesn't have an NDA associated with it. Maybe it does, but I don't remember signing one as someone who also has access. I'll tell you what, though, keep posting. I'm not trying to discourage you. I'm just asking that you attack positions rather than question specific members. EDIT: As an aside, if you would like to discuss this with me personally, please PM me rather than post in this particular thread. I don't want to tie up the thread.
