  1. This was so sweet, it hurt, Leferd. rat bastard! For a while, I had some of the screenshots BIS posted on my computer. I went to look for them the other day and I couldn't find them.
  2. lol Yeah. I keep hearing about how bad Rangers are. I kind of wanted to include another female and I thought Jemima would be an interesting addition, especially in light of Job. I want a solid range DPS and I don't want two of any class. I'm sure even a weaker class would still work in a normal difficulty game, but it doesn't hurt to consider options. I just haven't played enough of the beta to know which is best. Probably just make the rogue range DPS and then make a barbarian or something for melee dps.
  3. Do what Val said and then put some of that powdered alcohol... palcohol, as it's called, in it.
  4. So, does this now change to what are you drinking... or eating right now? http://www.examiner.com/article/palcohol-powdered-alcohol-wins-u-s-approval-and-will-be-available-this-summer
  5. Yeah, the wife and I donate to St. Jude's. Apparently the lady who represents the hospital or something, the lady who starred in That Girl, was a Kappa Alpha Theta also and so it's important to my wife. ...But my experience is that donating to someone is like joining the mafia. They think they have you for life and start getting to be aggressive. I really am soft hearted in real life, but pushy charity people get to me sometimes. I've worked sales and, soft hearted or not, trying to muscle me is like trying to put baby in a corner. I recently had 'the talk' from someone representing the local Catholic cemetery. I found out that, even though I hadn't thought of it and don't really think I deserve it, I am eligible for a military burial. When I found that out, I also found out that I can get life insurance through them too. I dunno. I don't think it's fair for me to take advantage of the system when there are people out there I consider 'real veterans.' Anyhow, today I decided to hike over the hill (which ironically in light of the current discussion overlooks a cemetery) to Colton to meet with a my wife and a friend for lunch.
  6. I approved Ambrose's post because it's probably unfair to allow a one sided argument. ...But, come on guys, don't make it so that I have decide whether or not to approve snarky posts or I'm just going to snip the bulk out of this thread. Shake hands. Punch each other on the shoulder. Sacrifice a goat. Do whatever the cool kids do to 'bury the hatchet' these days. :Cant's huge grin icon:
  7. Yeah, I think it's a fairly minor point. I guess there are two reasons you'd want to know exactly who dropped what. First of all, for the stories sake, even though in PnP you go over the corpses, the DM will usually tell you which cool or extraordinary items from which of your foes. I mean, ten crappy short swords and the moldy heal of six week old bread? Does it matter which kobold had what? The other reason is that, for those spectacular (or craptacular as the case may be) items, you want to know who dropped it because you're planning on playing again and want to know who has what. Of course, you're still going to fight the same group, so I guess that still doesn't have a huge practical impact. Still, I think in principle it's probably better to know which foe dropped which rusty dagger. Not important enough to me to write my congressman or create a petition, but at least I can dig the reasoning.
  8. I found her much more irritating in BG2. Starting from minute one in the cage, when she tries to take control of the situation from inside the cage. And then got deeply offended by her 30 second grief cycle followed by a horrible stab at 'romance' mere days after her husband's grisly mutilation (if the PC is male, anyway). At least I could feel a little sorry for her in BG2. ...But, it's true that her romantic overtures in what amounted to mere... days? after finding her dead husband gave me the willies. In my first run, I probably won't use adventurers at all. I'll play on normal and I'm pretty sure even if the classes aren't balanced perfectly I can build a splendid party out of the companions. I just have to see how the stronghold works. I might want to hire a bunch of hirelings to hang out there. EDIT: Yep. I was just thinking it through and it really was only days after we found Special K daid.
  9. I'm not being facetious, and I'm certainly trying not to be dismissive, but I simply don't understand the depth of feeling I've seen on this. Not just from you, Azmod. From what I've seen, it's not a majority opinion, but certainly a vocal minority who hates the area looting. I can understand not liking it, but to make a petition over it? The fact is, last time I played the beta, I didn't like how it looked altogether. The stash was weird. I hated that I had to be at an in or camping to switch stuff around. The way individual characters didn't really come up with an inventory screen was offputing. ...But it just seemed so minor. ...And this deal with the area looting seems truly trivial on the downside. It's a huge convenience for folks who want it, but doesn't seem to detract much for folks who would rather walk over to a few more corpses to loot them. I agree that it would have been interesting to see how it worked beforehand, though. I have a gut feeling that a lot of people are upset at prospective implementation who might not actually mind how it ends up working in the game.
  10. Good God, you crazy bastards, you need to drink your booze without all that sugary crap. It's gonna rot your gut and give you a pounding headache. Water is the way to go. Chug that water and your head will thank you in the morning.
  11. When I allow myself to spend a little, I enjoy Newcastle. I can't remember where I was... it might actually have been in Scotland, but I had some sort of really strong ale. I mean this stuff wasn't dark brown. It was black. At any rate, I finished off the other half of the bottle of Bushmill Irish Whiskey last night. Not enough to get me completely drunk, but enough that I slept like a babe when I went to sleep.
  12. Hey, Joshua, I'm approving your thread. Generally, you can't advertise on these forums, but this doesn't look really any different than other kickstarter threads we see. I also looked at sillykidgames, but it appears there's only a placeholder pic. So, let me first off wish you luck in your kickstarter. I'm approving your post and assuming that it's all on the up and up (not a bot, legitimate designer, etc.). However, I'm the low man on the totem pole in these parts, so one of the other mods might overrule me, with my blessings of course. Meanwhile, I don't want you to feel unwelcome. The more people designing games, the better. Drop back in and show us some artwork and kibitz with folks. Nothing proves you're not a bot better than friendly banter and heated debate!
  13. Yeah, Jaheira always died valiantly trying demonstrate how she could take on the nearest bear without arms or armor. She was marginally less irritating in BG2.
  14. Moved from Pillars of Eternity discussion. Kind of a quirky discussion, Terodemmah, so I moved it to WoT where quirky discussions can breathe free. As for Sawyer not liking beer...? Just means more for the rest of us.
  15. Yeah, con bonuses accumulate. If the idea is to scale encounters and keep all bonuses relevant, but there's a lot more dished out in a normal campaign to increase damage on one hand and avoid (I would say primarily avoid at least) damage on the other, but not nearly so much in a typical low level campaign to increase HP. +2 for a mage is actually pretty damned good. Even though it's part of the pool tends to be less as a ratio, that +4 for a fighter is truly significant for every level because you reap that bonus benefit. ...And randomized rolls means that if you end up with a bad run for your HPs, you can still be competitive. For myself, and I'm probably going to take even more heat for this, I don't like randomization for hit points or initial stats in character creation. I like it in combat and skill checks because it adds piquancy. Otherwise, I like the player decisions to be the important thing in the game.
  16. That's disgusting. blechhh food juice
  17. Hey, thanks for the pics, iamgoukus. I think I should be getting this also. I'm not really sure. It was damned thoughtful of you to share it with the community, though.
  18. Yeah, I mean, that +2 still means something later, but 10 extra hit points at level 5 isn't nearly as important as what you can cast. ...And I still get caught on stuff. Like, I know the theory is that to hit is more important than bonus damage on a 1 for 1 basis, but it's still cool to know your guy could knock out a bull in one punch. Of course, you don't even need massive damage to knock off a mage at level one. ...But I also think making hit points completely random sucked. In a CRPG it could make a big difference if you rolled a 1 every time. If the DM (or game) scales everything properly, any bonus will still have an effect. As Voss says, the RNG (D20) is a finite and knowable spread. +1 will always be 1 twentieth of that die, so if everything scaled perfectly, it would be the exact same ratio at level 5 and level 10. Nothing ever works out that perfectly when scaling, and even if you could maintain some sort of Zenlike balance for the AC, Thac0, and HP, you've *still* got abilities and spells. Because of the way the conversation has progressed it sounds like I'm saying that initial stats don't matter or don't matter past the first few levels. That's not what I'm saying. I'm just saying that we fixate on the initial stats. ...And I do it too sometimes. So my favorite method is a simple straight point buy.
  19. I don't know how they handled it, but it would be cool if they allowed the PC to set up lieutenants and create two or three groups. The PC could then hire out the groups, assuming his operation is mercenary, or search separately for information, if his main goal is spycraft, or even have one or more of his groups look for knowledge, making his primary goal scholarly. If some of these things were available, and with the proviso that these functions can be handled quickly and don't take away from the story or the RP aspect of the game, then there would be a tremendous incentive to include hirelings. This is especially true if they could also end up making you money in the long run. You front the money for hirelings, gear them up and set them out, then they earn you loot or find you information or even develop some commerce around your stronghold. I don't know much about the strongholds, not having read about them, but there is plenty of opportunity.
  20. Greetings, Yaerius. You are currently West of House.
  21. That's not fair, Kal! My custom party had personality. There are plenty of voices in my head, they all have their own personality, and I could have them exchanging dialogue every time I played. Seriously, though, I think the adventurer idea will be good once I've played through. I can include NPCs I like, forget the rest, and add adventurers to make up the difference. I just hope we don't have any NPCs forced into my party. Even if I like them, I'm irritated at being required to take around folks in my merry band.
  22. Still getting used to being back in the forums. I posted this in the strange news thread and I'm locking this. Bad Cant! Bad bad Cant!
  23. I swear to goodness, it's only a matter of time before it becomes routine treatment for men who have psychological issues regarding their **** size. The thing is, as opposed to breast enhancement or plastic surgery, this is apparently a functioning ****. Weird, but I suppose it could provide hope for someone who's suffered injuries like the guy in question. http://news.sky.com/...enis-transplant EDIT: You've got to be kidding me! The word for the male sexual organ is a perfectly legitimate word!
