I for one didn't take offense at his comments, but I would also take those nitpicky things as completionist. My belief right now is that the game length will be perfectly long enough by a reasonable standard, so the point of the thread really is geared for nit picky things. That doesn't mean I'm manning the barricade and trying to repel Bryy, although some people have thought I was repellant. On the other hand, completionist need not mean reading every book or pouring over every item. So maybe we should have categories of speed run, regular, completionist, nit picky, and finally 'grabs an editor to scour for dialogue and text he couldn't find in several playthroughs.' :Cant's tongue in cheek grin icon: I don't know if that last category counts as playtime, though. <.<

I like that. You *can't* steal from the dead. They don't own anything. Therefore, if you kill someone and take his stuff, it's not stealing. Now to find a way to kill someone without calling it murder! :Cant's running away from Kirottu icon:

White People: What They Say in Public vs Behind Closed Doors
Cantousent replied to ktchong's topic in Way Off-Topic
I just don't like making a word entirely off limits because it prevents any discussion. For example, the word 'spic' is horrible when used as a pejorative for Hispanic folks. When used in the phrase 'spic and span,' it's not bad. ...And if someone calls someone else a spic, it's bad of course. However, I shouldn't be castigated for using the word as part of a discussion about racial or ethnic epithets. At lease I hope I shouldn't. I'm betting the hammer comes down because of the video, personally, but that's just an assumption on my part. -

If words don't matter at all, then the majority of human interaction is meaningless. Of course, the vast majority of human interaction might just be meaningless. <.< -
White People: What They Say in Public vs Behind Closed Doors
Cantousent replied to ktchong's topic in Way Off-Topic
I had a close friend in college, at Indiana University. She would say 'niggah' all the time, which always made me cringe. Growing up, we were taught that it was a horrible word that no one should use. Anyhow, she started calling me this name after a while and some of her friends would call me the same thing. When we were alone one time, I asked her about it and told her how it was weird to hear it and how the word was bad. She explained that using the word was a way to own it and turn it into something good. I believe she meant it, but I still think that it's tough to have a word that's okay for one group to say and not good for any other group. I mean, I suppose maybe most parents don't want their kids to use profanity, but the meaning isn't explained as different for minors and adults. It's just accepted that adults can use 'bad' words. As far as the post, it doesn't offend me, but I would point out that a similar post entitled "Black (or Asian or Hispanic or Women) People: What They Say in Public vs Behind Closed Doors" would be rightfully derided as pointlessly provocative by trying to reinforce stereotypes. After all, I thought pointing to stereotypes to vilify an entire group was bad. Hey, I believe in freedom of speech, although Obsidz might object to the video of the word on their private server. EDIT: heh, forgot to change the title. -
I actually can't remember the game crashing on me in loooong hours of gameplay. Still, as long as it doesn't add new bugs, anything that says 'Anti Crash' can't be all that bad. I'll watch the video when you post it, you loveable catlike alien (or whatever your avatar is supposed to be)!

Here's a question, is it easy for the player to see who's engaged and who's not and by whom? I like the engagement system, which is clearly a lot like AoO, but if battles continue to be dogpiles, I can see some real confusion with multiple enemies and whatnot. ...Or am I just an idiot? You don't have to be gentle about the idiot part if you kindly also answer the engagement part. It's been a while since I've played the beta and I don't want to play PoE again until it ships.

Hey, it takes deep conversation to keep the trains moving on time. :huge grin: I've actually liked all the Germans I've met in real life, although a couple of them were the most brusque and blunt people I know. About ten years ago I was in the Jacuzzi with a friend and his mom comes out to join us, German born and bred. She was a dear friend, mind you. She looks over at me and says, "You're fat! I remember when you were hot. You're fat now!" Thanks, Mutti!

Actually, while I think the chief complaint tends to be shortness, I can see someone like Hurl being pissed off at the length. Also, Steam hours are meaningless. I mean, like the poor bastard with the phone in Grom's post, I habitually leave a game running on Steam while I do things, including leaving the house for the day. So, it doesn't always tell the story because I will sometimes be really engaged by the game and most of the hours I log will be spent playing it. Other times, I'll be kind of into the game and play a little and then do something else. If you really want to hit everything, and you really get into the dialogue and whatnot, I can't imagine you'll be disappointed from what I've seen. Then there's the observation stated above about the fact that how long is enough is going to be subjective. Nevertheless, there will be a point where the game is certainly plenty long enough by any reasonable standard and chronic complainers will end up trolling fewer and fewer people.

On the other hand, your boss is apparently a rat bastard, so I think this might be the impetus to go on to bigger and better things. I mean, if you can't trust your boss or deal with him in good faith, you're spending all your time looking over your shoulder.

I joined just to poke my head in and see things. There are things I don't like as much, such as the fact that the toolset is pushed as strenuously as the game. At least it kind of seems that way to me. When I see them pushing DM mode, I start to worry about the quality of the single player campaign. Still, it looks interesting. I even chimed in on scaling, which I dislike and sometimes despise.

I'm considering pre-ordering also. Some of the things look damned silly, I have to admit. I mean, I don't even care about the gold badge on *this* forum. Still, some of the things in the packages actually look cool. I imagine I'd stick with the Digital Deluxe, but I could maybe be persuaded to get whatever the next one was for the extra copies to give to friends. Decisions decisions decisions!

Right now I'm just leaving campus into the hills wishing I were lying down under a shade tree myself.

Wow, that bites, you glorious bastard! The problem with that situation is that it really doesn't help to chew on people's asses if there's no remedy they can give you. I mean, if you can get free tickets or some other compensation, that's great, but I've never been a fan of taking it to the mattresses just to grief people. Got up late this morning and instead of doing what I need to do, I'm sitting here kibitzing online. For shame. I plan on going on a short hike, maybe six miles, before I meet up with someone at the gym who thinks she can help me tighten up my routine. I'm looking forward to having advice since I'm not sure I'm doing all the reps the right way or if I should switch things around or in or out of my routine.

I've been trying to get into Ultima Underworld. I don't have time to sit and really immerse myself in the game. The combat system is a little weird and the movement and interface are quite archaic, but I'm going to give it some time to see if it grows on me.

I was perfectly happy not to have horses, which we haven't had in any of the other Fallout games at any rate, but I wouldn't have complained if they'd been in the game. I would point out that horses consume food and water and so if they'd had them I would hope they'd make the care of your horse part of the game. It's always a little offputting when horses are treated like windowless cars with saddles in a game.

Wait... what? I thought Guard Dog was already using a post hole digger. I thought it was only Woldan who was crazy enough to use a sledgehammer for erecting his fence. Although I guess he had a hot Indian princess to help him with his erection. BTW: Is that red feather or red dot Indian we're talking? Tonight, the wife and I went dancing. I'm working on my salsa and rumba dancing. Muy Caliente!

The last part of your post is what I'd like to see. There need not be a bunch of respawns. Actually, no respawns are good. Instead, new spawns in areas that make sense for new spawns. If you help the town deal with all immediate threats, then it should be safe. It can probably count on relatively clear sailing in the vicinity. Remote areas you clear might have new spawns in them or even some set encounters placed just for the event that the area is clear. Even then, it should be abandoned for a while and the new denizens who eventually come should be sensible. I want the world to show the impact of your passage, but not look like this static place that only exists because the PC does. Of course, the world only exists because it was created for the players, but that's different. So, a few random or set encounters and some new spawns, used judiciously, make sense to me. ...But if the choice is between every map completely respawning and staying completely cleared after we clear them, I'd rather they stay completely cleared. EDIT: Cleaned up a little.
