ship's name: Coffin captain can wield a weapon called the coffin's nail (sword, spear, dagger) or coffin maker's hammer (hammer, flintlock pistol, arquebus.) as for, "The Black Isle Bastards' souls are bound to the ship," doesn't it sound a bit familiar. so familiar that if the obsidian writers did such in the game, we would complain o' it being derivative or hackneyed, or worse. am knowing such choice is current #1, but please think o' how terrible such a choice is gonna be 'less is made a joke or parody. wod's fact checker could use a fact checker. keep in mind Gromnir dislikes politifact. its rating o' fibs is busted and it will, with some regularity, treat hypocritical behavior o' conservatives different than more liberal individuals. even so, wod's linked does an even worse job o' uncovering truth. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/factcheck/analysis-fact-checking-president-trump%e2%80%99s-rally-in-florida/ar-AAn6Q36?ocid=spartanntp 1) thomas jefferson quote ""When Thomas Jefferson said ‘nothing can be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself,’ he said, ‘becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle.’ That was June 14 — my birthday — 1807.”" "Trump selectively quotes from Jefferson here, who, for most of his life, was a fierce defender of the need for a free press. When Jefferson wrote to 17-year-old John Novell, urging him to avoid a career in journalism, he was embittered by reports spread by his political opponents that he had slept with Sally Hemings, one of his slaves. Today, most historians believe she was the mother of six of his children. So this is a case where “fake news” turned out to be true." 2) f-35, which has been beat to death by folks here and elsewhere "“We’ve gotten hundreds of millions of dollars off the price of a plane that was going to be ordered.”" "Trump is referring to the Lockheed F-35 program. Again, he is taking credit for something that had already been negotiated, a claim that had previously earned him Four Pinocchios. The Pentagon had already announced cost reductions of about $600 million before Trump met with Lockheed’s chief executive." https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2017/01/31/trumps-claim-taking-credit-for-cutting-600-million-from-the-f-35-program/?utm_term=.df043104a0e5 "Then, on Jan. 30, Trump claimed he “was able to get $600 million approximately off those planes.”" "But Lockheed already had planned cost reductions. In a Dec. 19 briefing — before Trump began meeting with Hewson — the head of the Defense Department’s F-35 Joint Program Office, Air Force Lt. Gen. Christopher Bogdan, announced costs would come down “significantly.” The next stage in the F-35 program’s low-rate initial production was a new batch of 90 airplanes, called Lot 10. Bogdan had estimated that Lot 10 planes would cost “somewhere on the order of 6 to 7 percent per airplane” less than Lot 9 planes. Between 6 to 7 percent comes out to a cost reduction of between $6.1 million and $7.1 million per plane, or between $549 million and $630 million for a full lot of 90 planes, The Washington Post’s Aaron Gregg reported. This cost reduction is already reflected in the Air Force’s budget." so unless trump wants to also take credit for inventing the flux capacitor... 3) trump does indeed spin on obama ties to seven countries "“Now you know the countries we’re talking about. And these were countries picked by Obama.” "Trump is referring to Syria, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia, all of which were subject to the executive order that ordered a travel ban on residents of those countries. "Four of the countries were identified by Congress, in a bill signed by Obama, and then the Obama administration included three more. But Obama — and Democrats in Congress — wanted greater visa scrutiny of people who had traveled to those countries. When given a chance, the Obama administration specifically rejected the citizenship-based restrictions of the kind that Trump ordered. So there were significant differences in the approach." wod's linked fact checker suggests that simple 'cause obama recognized the aforementioned middle-eastern and predominant muslim countries as presenting security concerns, trump ain't spinning. is not a lie to claim obama and the democrat Congress identified the aforementioned nations, but the claim o' spin is related to how trump uses in a misleading fashion. 4) trump does indeed spin polls on optimism. not even gonna bother with the linked quote material as wod's site is... weird. limiting notions o' american optimism to a single consumer confidence poll while ignoring the many negative approval polls is wacky and pretty much proves politifact's point. as for the sweden thing, is actual kinda funny how trump's willingness to talk w/o thinking has actual become an excuse for a President of the United states of America. we noted earlier, "am suspecting much o' trump falsehood is less a result o' machination than it is simple his ignorance coupled with impulse control issues." the recognition o' trump's inability to think before saying something stoopid should be cause for alarm rather than some kinda reassurance for the ~40% who voted for trump. can you imagine if obama had used rachel maddow as an excuse for asad ignoring his "red line" o' chemical warfare. "i saw a news piece on msnbc last night which made me concerned about the appropriateness of increasing the US presence in the middle east." use random news drops as validation for stoopid comments by a President woulda' resulted in any other President being mocked and ridiculed for weeks or months. HA! Good Fun!

sounds as if 5-person were a fundamental consideration for the developers. for such design choices, we do not need obsidian to be simpatico with our preferences to be satisfied. can be disappointed with the choice, but satisfied with the rationale, yes? am not a fan of 5-person, but obsidian has reasons which has been communicated. obsidian were thoughtful and deliberate 'bout the change. obsidian rationale may not be universal convincing, but they got a rationale and the rationale is reasonable. past obsidian design choices has, from time-to-time, been poorly considered and/or communicated. at such times and in such situations, we complain. we complain forceful and often. 5-person is not such an instance. is not such a time. am satisfied. we needed a reason from obsidian. we got one. HA! Good Fun!

ain't playing anything at the moment. zip. zero. nadda. 'course that is gonna change rather dramatically in the near future. torment battletech beta followed by battletech game. and am gonna finally purchase tyranny late may/early may, 'cause we wait at least six months after release to actual buy games nowadays. and speaking o' six month delays, mass effect: andromeda gets a march release, so am likely gonna purchase in september rather than waiting for game-of-the-year edition to release in november/december. am suspecting we will be playing the poe beta at the end o' 2017, so... Where did he said anything about TA? Nowhere.... It's USAToday. A media outlet that shouldn't be taken any more seriously than the National Enquirer. trump's "baffling" sweden comment got attention from reuters, the washington post, ny times, npr, etc... President utterances kinda get blanket coverage, so is not gonna be an easy alternative fact spin. however, we understand trump confusion. there were actual an arguable terrorist attack in sweden not long ago, and it even supports trump notion o' terrorist attacks failing to get adequate media coverage as it went near unnoticed. http://www.thelocal.se/20170203/swedish-neo-nazis-held-over-gothenburg-refugee-centre-blast 'course the terrorists were neo-nazis attacking a refugee center, so perhaps the event in sweden don't quite fit with trump's narrative after all. HA! Good Fun!

I don't know. How do mutes in real life get by? You can't understand him, doesn't mean he can't understand you. There is nothing immersion breaking about the character. You don't even know when his "problem" started, it could be a fairly new thing. am agreeing with karkarov. not to be insulting, but dogmeat from fallout were, well, a dog. the construct and one-of-many were nwn2 companions with limited vocabularies. ed-e and rex from fallout: nv were less than loquacious. am not gonna break into our usual "immersion" tirade, but we will observe how in spite o' the fact none o' the aforementioned companions were a favorite o' ours, they is common in black isle/obsidian games. whatever were the shortcomings o' fo:nv or motb, the communication challenged companions functioning in combat were not a major issue. lack o' verbal communication ain't an insurmountable challenge. ei-vene? as an aspect o' ravel, she were one o' the better npcs black isle ever wrote. do a sidekick-level companion who makes us forget ei-vene? we would considerable increase our pledge for such. oh, and just for fun... HA! Good Fun!

am suspecting one companion is considerable more resource exhaustive than four sidekicks. keep in mind with the new companion mechanics, each companion spawns additional dialogues and interactions with the already existing companions and quests. as such, bob the companion barbarian would not only get his own quest, but inclusion o' bob would necessitate additional work for those writing aloth, xoti, maia rua, etc. converse, bob the sidekick would get artwork, a few catchphrases, and some insular dialogue with the main character. 4 v 1? am not believing such is an equivalency, but am simple guessing. HA! Good Fun!

were that ever a thing? were it ever a goal? the notion o' an unbiased journalist stretches credulity. to complain that journalists is biased is therefore kinda kookie. journalists should be factual accurate. no alternative facts. no fake news nonsense. no purposeful misleading comparisons such as contrast murder rates in chicago to middle east. when news media fails to be factual accurate, they should be called to account, and with literal dozens o' reputable media sources covering the same events, it rare takes long to see who ain't being true with facts. bias? *snort* we expect bias. hell, we even like bias to a degree. we want passionate reporters to have an emotional stake in the events they is covering. is gonna be multiple ways to look at events and we don't mind if a journalist tries to promote one such perspective over others... just so long as they present facts accurate and truthful. the alt right and hard left "news" sites don't care 'bout facts. such propaganda mills has fully embraced alternative facts as something legit and real. fine. doesn't bother us when side-show barkers pretend to be journalists. such stuff can be kinda amusing. the increasing popularity o' fake news is only problematic when seemingly sensible, sane and savvy citizens honest can't distinguish the alternative facts from actual facts. ... how is it possible for so many to confuses the credible news sources with the conmen? the hucksters and snake oil salesmen convinced folks o' the fungible nature o' ubiquitous journalistic bias and alternative facts? is that where it all went wrong? HA! Good Fun!

The Weird, Random, and Interesting things that Fit Nowhere Else Thread
Gromnir replied to Rosbjerg's topic in Way Off-Topic
not all crimes have an intent/mens rea requirement. doesn't matter if you knew you were speeding. doesn't matter if you genuine thought you could dump 10,000 gallons o' toxic sludge into ________ creek. for other crimes, intent is the pivotal question. examples o' specific intent crimes is assault, embezzlement and first degree (premeditated) murder. when you were shooting arrows at the oak in your backyard and sneezed, sending a shaft over the fence and into your neighbors gluteus maximus, chances are you didn't actual intend to harm bob and thus you won't be guilty o' criminal assault. sure, you were likely negligent and will owe bob money, but you won't be criminally liable for your mistake. in the past, there were a meaningful distinction 'tween mala in se and mala prohibita crimes, but that is a functional anachronim at this point. no jurisdiction in the US actual relies on common law o' crime. got statutory codes up the wazoo for all kinds o' ridiculous infractions. even so, for many crimes, intent, however difficult it may seem to prove, is the most important question. for other crimes, intent will only be relevant when you die and mighty anubis weighs your wizened heart on his golden scales. HA! Good Fun! -
keep in mind it is Gromnir who always warns 'bout the actual power o' the President as 'posed to imagined. pearl-clutching? hardly. but smelling salts? admitted, there were a moment or two when... ever been in a car crash, but were unharmed? small car crash. for a moment, before, during or after, (or perhaps before, during and after) the event feels unreal. surreal. clearly you are witnessing the crash, but it just doesn't feel... real. that couldn't have been a Presidential press conference. tell a jewish reporter to sit down. tells a black reporter to arrange a meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus. and so many alternative facts. it weren't real. but it was. pass us the smelling salts. we would appreciate it. HA! Good Fun!

am thinking guinness should start keeping alternative facts stats, 'cause trump's presser had to break some kinda record. will list a few in a bit, but at the moment, am a bit overwhelmed by the magnitude o' it all. HA! Good Fun!

am thinking this needs a thread different from romance. most character relationships will be other than romantic. trying to discuss all relationship aspects in the romance thread is less than ideal. so, the new character interaction mechanic... https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/91616-please-let-deadfire-be-enjoyable-in-a-single-playthrough/?p=1887221 will not be a popular pov, but am concerned. character development is not gonna be improved considerably with a mechanical fix. "the recent 3.0 stretch goal bothers (concerns?) us. the mechanics o' companion interaction is not gonna be what makes pallegina more interesting than she were in poe1. opposite problem is more likely. the more the companion interactions become fickle and subject to whims o' a protean protagonist, the less useful they is gonna be for advancing story. am understanding the reflexive appeal o' adding choice to a crpg, but am also recognizing the limitations such choice often places 'pon coherent storytelling." am not wanting less reactivity than is being offered with the new companion mechanics, but am seeing how such will be making the individual companions a bit more like the protagonist (i.e. mutable) and thus more difficult to write compelling. wanna discuss romance? fine. in this thread am more concerned with general companion relationships. HA! Good Fun!

Solo vs Party
Gromnir replied to Stef's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
the only situation where we can see a switch to solo being appropriate is when gameplay significant changes to solo-specific. kotor 1 space battle mini-game? sure. the spirit maze in watcher's keep from tob? yeah. poe1 were gonna have some kinda "memory dungeon" involving grieving mother and durance and the watcher. perhaps such woulda' been an ideal place. otherwise... HA! Good Fun! Omg A memory or dream or vision where you quest alone... but get joined by Aloth Eder or Palegina IF THEY DIED in poe1. Would be a nice touch for those that lost 1 of those 3 well, the problem is there is a good chance all three is alive for many players. even so. we do believe a solo jaunt in the "mind" o' eothas with durance and grieving mother as your virgil and beatrice could be fun. make durance play beatrice? HA! Good Fun! -

Solo vs Party
Gromnir replied to Stef's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
am not seeing anything "blasphemous" 'bout solo-play. however, am pleased obsidian does not lose sleep over solo-play gameplay, story and balancing concerns. can make a good party-based game. can make a good solo game. is hard enough to do one or the other. try and do both is asking too much of the developers. if folks find enjoyment with poe as a solo experience, then am happy for 'em. however, we do not want obsidian to spend valuable development time on solo. HA! Good Fun! -
Since priests will already be revamped due to their new spell list/selection, I don't see why such a change shouldn't be incorporated as well. I'm curious though, what do you imagine the specialization could grant to godless priests? currently the main advantages o' a priest's deity choice is how devotions boost holy radiance and the deity weapon talent. in poe 1, replacing the deity-specific talents with a generic godless talent would be easy enough-- a useless spell-like ability nobody uses and 2 weapons. staff and crossbow? with weapon proficiencies being added to poe 2, am suspecting the priestly talent benefits will also change, but am confident something similar would be worked into the game, yes? get a proficiency slot in _______. also, am suspecting based on josh comments, the dispositions will change a bit in poe2. however, all the dispositions current have approximate opposites. so let a godless priest choose any two dispositions save for those diametric opposed. there were almost no reactivity for priest deity choice in poe1. have a couple similar flavor text options in poe 2 don't seem like a stretch. even if priests are afforded more reactivity in poe 2 than we saw in poe 1, given the nature o' the gods in eora and the story o' poe thus far, working in a few disbeliever priest text options don't strike us as a particular odious burden. honest, unless priests is radical overhauled, a godless priest addition don't seem like a tough fix. create one godless talent. allow disposition choice at level 1. add a handful o' dialogue options... options which would no doubt be perfectly reasonable given the artificial nature o' the gods. call it a day. HA! Good Fun!
-
agree with one exception. given the revelation 'bout the gods at the end o' poe 1, we would like for obsidian to consider an additional faithless/godless priest subclass. such were possible in d&d 3e. worked ok. as for poe specific, for a considerable time, durance continued to gain divine power in spite o' fact magran could no longer recognize him, and even if durance wholly rejected magran in a game, he could still access and recoup spells. 'course any perceived inconsistency could simple be explained away by a creative obsidian developer. nevertheless, for those furious defensive o' established setting lore, our suggestion is already plausible and hardly world breaking. HA! Good Fun!

gonna need disagree with your characterization. "jack of all trades?" regardless, am agreeing chanters could use changes. the usefulness o' the couple chanter-specific talents were tidal, seeming to come and go with each major patch. relative uselessness o' dex for chanter abilities were also an issue as already noted, and coupled with the mechanics flaw in the poe system which made it easy for any class to functional achieve accuracy or deflection bloat, chanters were in serious need o' change. but paladins as a jack o' all trades? if you wanted to make a serious dps paladin, you could do so, but only at expense o' many support or tanky qualities. sure, you wouldn't rival the best dps classes in the game, but you could have fun with a unique build... even if pallegina would always be better than you at dps. a kind wayfarer could become a on-kill healbot via dps, but were an extreme narrow option given the scope o' paladin possibilities. particular for the first 8-9 levels, a paladin's options were extreme limited; 1 aura and likely 2-3 abilities? and chances are one o' your abilities would simple be a modification o' lay on hands or flames of devotion. dunno. maybe you are using the term different. HA! Good Fun!
