  1. am not seeing anything "blasphemous" 'bout solo-play. however, am pleased obsidian does not lose sleep over solo-play gameplay, story and balancing concerns. can make a good party-based game. can make a good solo game. is hard enough to do one or the other. try and do both is asking too much of the developers. if folks find enjoyment with poe as a solo experience, then am happy for 'em. however, we do not want obsidian to spend valuable development time on solo. HA! Good Fun!

  3. Since priests will already be revamped due to their new spell list/selection, I don't see why such a change shouldn't be incorporated as well. I'm curious though, what do you imagine the specialization could grant to godless priests? currently the main advantages o' a priest's deity choice is how devotions boost holy radiance and the deity weapon talent. in poe 1, replacing the deity-specific talents with a generic godless talent would be easy enough-- a useless spell-like ability nobody uses and 2 weapons. staff and crossbow? with weapon proficiencies being added to poe 2, am suspecting the priestly talent benefits will also change, but am confident something similar would be worked into the game, yes? get a proficiency slot in _______. also, am suspecting based on josh comments, the dispositions will change a bit in poe2. however, all the dispositions current have approximate opposites. so let a godless priest choose any two dispositions save for those diametric opposed. there were almost no reactivity for priest deity choice in poe1. have a couple similar flavor text options in poe 2 don't seem like a stretch. even if priests are afforded more reactivity in poe 2 than we saw in poe 1, given the nature o' the gods in eora and the story o' poe thus far, working in a few disbeliever priest text options don't strike us as a particular odious burden. honest, unless priests is radical overhauled, a godless priest addition don't seem like a tough fix. create one godless talent. allow disposition choice at level 1. add a handful o' dialogue options... options which would no doubt be perfectly reasonable given the artificial nature o' the gods. call it a day.   4. agree with one exception. given the revelation 'bout the gods at the end o' poe 1, we would like for obsidian to consider an additional faithless/godless priest subclass. such were possible in d&d 3e. worked ok. as for poe specific, for a considerable time, durance continued to gain divine power in spite o' fact magran could no longer recognize him, and even if durance wholly rejected magran in a game, he could still access and recoup spells. 'course any perceived inconsistency could simple be explained away by a creative obsidian developer. nevertheless, for those furious defensive o' established setting lore, our suggestion is already plausible and hardly world breaking. HA! Good Fun!
  5. gonna need disagree with your characterization. "jack of all trades?" regardless, am agreeing chanters could use changes. the usefulness o' the couple chanter-specific talents were tidal, seeming to come and go with each major patch. relative uselessness o' dex for chanter abilities were also an issue as already noted, and coupled with the mechanics flaw in the poe system which made it easy for any class to functional achieve accuracy or deflection bloat, chanters were in serious need o' change. but paladins as a jack o' all trades? if you wanted to make a serious dps paladin, you could do so, but only at expense o' many support or tanky qualities. sure, you wouldn't rival the best dps classes in the game, but you could have fun with a unique build... even if pallegina would always be better than you at dps. a kind wayfarer could become a on-kill healbot via dps, but were an extreme narrow option given the scope o' paladin possibilities. particular for the first 8-9 levels, a paladin's options were extreme limited; 1 aura and likely 2-3 abilities? and chances are one o' your abilities would simple be a modification o' lay on hands or flames of devotion. dunno. maybe you are using the term different.   6. Problem is, at that point they'd be competing directly with chanters, who can do that, but better. They either need to stay in the jack of all trades role or get a complete design from the ground up, to do something that wouldn't clash with one of the other "pure" classes. there were similarities 'tween the chanter role and the paladin. however, keep in mind the chanter unique mechanic typical made 'em function very different. a paladin's modal had similarity to chanter's chants, but the paladin also had a significant array o' powerful, single-target, at-will buffs. such paladin buffs might be per-encounter or per-rest, but the paladin need not wait to build phrases. chanter invocations were also filling a much different niche than were paladin abilities. am also thinking the developers were surprised by how effective chanters were at tanking. the fact a hireling or main chanter had almost no need for dexterity allowed a player to boost defensive attributes if they wished to do so helped make chanters more tanky, but paladins with their superior health and deflection (once bolstered by faith and convictions) were seeming meant to be more capable o' front-line support than were chanters. kinda o' continuum o' resilience were paladin, chanter and priest. am thinking there is less overlap than suggested, particular if a few o' the mechanics which made it possible for any class to effective tank with the correct general talent choices talents and selective defensive attribute boosts is mitigated in poe 2. HA! Good Fun!

'course the compelling thematic linchpin for poe2 may be... colonialism? am hoping josh didn't actual mean it that way. obsidian took a step forward with poe1 by placing more o' the workload o' advancing the core themes o' the game with the companion stories/quests. all companions had a crisis o' faith. such unity o' theme were not a mechanical change from previous games, but it improved story as we need not have a single, ill-defined, and mutable protagonist trying to advance theme and story. *shrug* the recent 3.0 stretch goal bothers us. the mechanics o' companion interaction is not gonna be what makes pallegina more interesting than she were in poe1. opposite problem is more likely. the more the companion interactions become fickle and subject to whims o' a protean protagonist, the less useful they is gonna be for advancing story. am understanding the reflexive appeal o' adding choice to a crpg, but am also recognizing the limitations such choice often places 'pon coherent storytelling. one step forward, and two steps back? HA! Good Fun!
  8. by 3.0, paladins were more than capable o' fulfilling multiple roles https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/85343-post-30-paladins/?p=1789337 every time the same old and predictable "paladins sux" threads took root, many hardcore poe players and build monkeys would respond. the thing is, the folks making such claims o' paladin ineffectiveness, while numerous and boisterous at release, clear became an almost comical fringe element after a couple years and multiple expansions. paladins by 3.0 were effective, but they were also a crude frankenstein's monster kinda compromise o' conflicting design goals. personally, we played priests and paladins almost exclusive as our main, 'cause why not? the only classes gaining advantage from playing as a main were priests and paladins. could always add a rogue or wizard as a hireling, but priests and paladin mains benefited from the bonuses conferred by watcher dispositions. we enjoyed both classes, but such didn't keep us from recognizing how potential overpowered were priests and how inelegant were paladins. both classes would benefit from major changes in poe2. priests will no longer be vancian in poe 2. call it a good start. paladins need similar fundamental changes, but we don't see such alterations as likely. community expectations will continue to burden the developers with design goals much different than were contemplated by the folks at obsidian. am not seeing a way, particular as poe2 is being sold to people who liked poe1, to convince fans to embrace a paladin who ain't so much a holy warrior, but is rather a resilient and low maintenance support class with powerful single player buffs and numerous useful auras. HA! Good Fun!

A priest/fighter multiclass wouldn't necessarily make paladins redundant so long as the latter continue to have abilities and features that are both uniquely theirs and competitive with alternatives such as priest spells. It also stands to reason that any single or multiclass builds that fill a similar role, however imperfectly, would necessarily be doing so at the expense of other options, in which case I don't really see the harm as long as they don't do the paladin's job better. Recall also that the model for the Pillars paladin was less the fighter-with-some-cleric stuff of AD&D & 3E, and more the Warlord of D&D 4E. have been fighting a largely hopeless rearguard action with this issue. the name o' the classes defined expectations for the community. obsidian developers eventual chose to accede to those expectations, but only after beta were almost finished. so with the poe paladin, we got a resilient and low-maintenance support class with a few Holy Warrior flavor abilities awkward forced into the mix. each major patch release were seeing an inelegant developer attempt to facilitate greater synergy 'tween the poe paladin class underappreciated support qualities, and its potential unbalancing offensive features rather than seeming be a categorical proposition for the player. the poe paladin deserves a complete overhaul, but am thinking the possibility is unlikely. developers will continue to fight bravely, but is not a battle meant to be won. just 'cause fighters, paladins, and rogues had names same as the d&d classes from the ie games, those classes were never intended to play the same, or even similar. battle were lost with seeming innocuous class naming nomenclature and all the current developers is able to do is minimize the damage.   12. I found the dragons in Pillars more beautiful. They were colorfoul and adapted to their environments. The dragons in Dragon Age look like ... Dinosaurs with horns. I mean, this can look cool, I found the Dragons in Divinity 2 very interesting, but they are just massive and I forgot always, that they are there. dinosaurs would be better than dragons. every crpg has dragons, but where are the dinosaurs? d&d had loads o' dinosaurs. include an island with dinosaurs and a giant gorilla. too much? fine. nix the gorilla, but dinosaurs is still deserving more love. so, less dragon and more dinosaur is the solution.   13. the companion portraits for maia and serafen look amazing. at least as good as the eder and pallegina portraits from poe1, and perhaps better. thaos reminded us o' jason manley's work from iwd, which is a high compliment. that being said, serafen may be one o' our new faves... though am thinking bright red lipstick might be unnecessary for her. just sayin.   17. Presidents get too much credit and blame. our President doesn't have the kinda power most folks thinks he does. Presidents who is blamed for economic woes or economic improvements is often being targeted for blame/credit which is more appropriate directed at Congress or a past administration. 'course we has rare seen a President take so much credit for stuff he didn't do. it is hard to sympathize. f-35 cost reduction negotiated long before trump were elected? takes credit for keeping a ford plant in the US, a plant which ford were never planning to move? has made similar claims regarding intel, sprint and general motors. I'll look forward to seeing the meltdown from either direction. is tough to get worked up 'bout romances 'less obsidian announces a fundamental change. if poe2 romances is the bioware style (affection minigame + added prurient appeal) o' "romance," then am expecting such will also be tangential... and necessarily rushed and embarrassingly immature, but also easily avoided. as we noted elsewhere, such stuff would be ideal for dlc, but if is gonna be a stretch goal, we will hardly be concerned 'cause just as with bio's "romances," what largely guarantees their puerile implementation also guarantees Gromnir need never suffer them. our problems with bioware style romance is more philosophical than anything else. we don't like how the success o' bioware's sex-me-up minigame has largely destroyed the possibility o' quality romance in any game in which they would coexist, but from a practical pov, their tangential nature makes 'em one o' the game aspects o' least concern to us. kinda like godlike, eh? such a ridiculous name, "godlike." solution: don't play godlike. problem solved. romance solution: don't play 'em. *shrug* once such a feature is announced, we don't see much cause for heated debate as it won't change the fact o' implementation and our personal solution is so simple and effective.   23. it is kinda amusing how trump blasted the courts for allowing dangerous folks to flood into the US after the tro o' o' his travel ban. after all, the process o' being vetted and allowed into the US takes approx. 18 months to two years. so what actual happened were folks in the Executive branch, sympathetic to the plight o' refugees from potential travel-banned nations, took steps to accelerate the process a smidge as they foresaw the possibility o' a more permanent and successful ban looming on the horizon. the courts didn't have any power to process more applications, and they sure as heck didn't increase the rate o' refugees being allowed into the US. it were those beautifully apolitical career bureaucrats working in the executive who took matters into their own hands to do the right thing. folks look at the fed judge and the appellate courts as having delivered a shot across the bow with rulings, but they often miss how it were executive branch bureaucrats who torpedoed trump's efforts and made it possible for all those new refugees to gain access to the american dream in expedited fashion. am wondering if trump learns the hidden lesson from recent events surrounding the travel ban: the President is gonna be needing fight the executive as much as the courts. is actual a pretty common problem for Presidents.   24. am gonna observe that not all media went easy on obama, and even then the clear relaxed standard lasted a bit more than the first half o' his first term. by 2011-2012, obama were complaining 'bout the media often and loud, and many media sources were talking 'bout how the President were going to extreme lengths to thwart them. nevertheless, the early and justified impression o' media favoritism lasted a long time.
