What would make you pledge more?
Gorth replied to Ilrahan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Discovering that I had used a credit card with a daily transaction limit (the one I use daily, so it's a risk "mitigation" thing) instead of my "no limits" card. Kickstarter wouldn't let me "re-pledge" unless I changed the amount -
I got to play a bit with the Conquistador beta thingy yesterday. A bit rough around the edges, but it looks promising (so far).

Artisan Class
Gorth replied to Gyor's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I sort of think dwarven runesmiths when people mention artisans in crpgs. Some of the most deadly craftsmen around. Armed with 'Armour of Resist All' and wielding the 'Warhammer of Asswhooping'. -
At $2.7? A full, live orchestral score. Hire Sheena Easton to voice a thief (preferably with a tail). More areas. In particular swamps. Big humongous swamps where entire adventuring parties are known to disappear without trace. A 'rat' level in the mega dungeon. Rats ranging from rattus rattus to mastodon sized rattus megalomaniacus, just to put a twist to the traditional kill a rat in a dungeon schtick.

And this in itself is troublesome, are RPG fans really unprofitable? Or this just corporate jargon that comes from a lack of understanding of genres and gamers? They seem unprofitable for AAA budgets. Publishers are always looking for best ROI. If you got $100m to invest, you are going to invest them in the 300% return rather than the 150% return (arbitrary numbers pulled out of thin air). It's how business works. Providers will irresistibly drift towards a singularity where they imagine the holy grail is (i.e. something all gamers would want) at the expense of niches. Nothing mysterious about it. Look at all the companies having wet dreams about getting a share of the WoW crowd.

I'm playing install all your old games and see if it will fit on my current hard drive configuration. I might have made my Steam drive too small. Edit to add: Well, what worked once worked twice. Added my old Mass Effect 2 key to my Origin account got it as digital download instead of those creaky old disks. I might just try buying Lair of the Shadowbroker some day. Anything else that is worth getting for ME2?

Hmm, 76. I need to work harder on my collection

Indeed, they tell a story, but one that leaves a lot to our imaginantion - and this, I think, is really important for portraits. I personally didn't mind if my characters used different weapons than the ones that were on the display, but I can see why someone would. But what do you think about this piece? There's a sword visible, but it isn't pronounced; adds a bit of flavour to the character but isn't very restrictive. What do you think? I always thought that was a paladin of Mystra... he'll take out his book and whack you over your head (doing blunt damage) while telling you to use your brains

Somewhat unrelated, I didn't know I could actually "redeem" my old key for the disk version of DA:O on Origin. I had just installed the game and it asked for CD1 when I went "screw this" and tried it (since I was waiting for ME3 to download anyway on the Origin client). It actually worked Anyway, bought the DA:O Ultimate thingy on Gamersgate to get some of the DLC's and expansions (now downloading too). That's the downside to reinstalling Windows. A load of stuff that needs reinstalling. Next up is MS Flight Simulator (Gold Edition).

Live recorded music, Poll 2.0
Gorth replied to jerf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There are a number of things Obsidian (and Black Isle before that) has been famous for. story, bugs and the sound side of things. Wouldn't mind some live musicians performing on some less than common instruments, whether they be harps, flutes, drums, strings etc. So, if stretch goal $2.7m became the aforementioned 60 minutes of full orchestra to perform some of the pieces necessary on various instruments in groups and together I wouldn't object. -
The old thread seems to have fallen off the radar anyway. BG1 vs. BG2 was more a quantity vs. quality argument IMO. Many, mostly empty locations (plot and story wise) versus fewer locations where plot and story was more condensed. Personally I preferred Storm of Zehir which randomly generated the unimportant stuff and let to set encounters where it mattered.

Thanks DN, trying it out right away. I don't have the Steam version, but I was considering it someday as a backup for my ageing CD's (and the built in no-cd bit). Edit to add: Grabbing the unofficial fan patch while I'm on that page anyway. My last downloaded version was 4.3 I think.

I didn't like the intro of ME3 (too cheesy, me definitely being wrong target group there), but after a good middle part it really was K** l*** and the completely artificial "aftermath" of Thessia that made go hmmm... so much for me liking the game. The contrived attempt at making me feeling guilty for being cheated by the game designers pulling a deus ex machina, just didn't work any better than the attempt at making me care for the peasant girl I got stuck with in the NWN2 OC. It did sour the experience to a degree that the ending didn't really matter (although the incessant grind defending the missile battery got on my nerves too). I hope the analysts/feedback reviewers at Bioware/EA some day conclude that Tutchanka, Rannoch etc. were the "good" parts and what should be reinforced in the future. Combat was surprisingly inoffensive (for somebody who normally doesn't like action in my crpgs) and at times even fun, although I still hate boss fights, but that's something I hate in all games. The game scored extra influence points with Gorth for finally having done away with the lockpick/hacking/etc. mini game. Oh, and I'm currently redownloading and re-installing the game after reinstalling Windows on my PC (because the good parts in the middle were really, really good). Not sure if I ever put all my thoughts on the game in a single post before On a related note, anybody noticed if DA2 ever goes on any kind of sale? One of my friends keeps telling me that Mark of the Assassin is fun, but I would hate to have to buy the base game at full price just to buy an expansion to play. Maybe they'll release it as some big bundle set like DA:O some day. Now if I could just get rid of mini-games in Alpha Protocol too, I might actually make it out of the starting area. I just can't motivate myself to try it again. Jeebus I hate them.

New question... (I managed to get my wishlist cleared out a bit through the Steam client, thanks guys): Anybody tried the Steam version of VMBL? I just installed my disk version and the official patch. No matter what I try, the game thinks I have too little memory (apparently my 12gb is not enough, it thinks I have less than 15mb). Anybody got either version to run on 64 bit WIn7?

That upper left picture is absolutely fantastic They are all good, but something about the "come here for a moment" expression just appeals to the cat lover in me.

Still playing Icewind Dale 2. Made it as far as the Hook Horror caves. Ye gods, I hate enemies that insta-spawn in front and behind me for inexplicable and no justifiable reasons... *Grrrr*

About bloody time somebody took a closer look at the price fixing and twisted a few arms.

I didn't know you could find your list on the steam client (screenshot excerpt was Firefox browser)... Of course, now it wants me to create a Steam ID. What's wrong with just using my account log in? >_ Thanks guys. I'll try to create an ID and see if I can at least delete them from the Steam client then.
