  1. A couple of points, for what it's worth. Firstly I am really enjoying the game and will end up playing it for a while. Positives: Love the multi classes, love the choose your own adventure style of many quests. The world map and sailing is awesome but unpolished and needs some work. Likewise ship combat has huge potential but needs tweaks. Relationship with companions also is a step up, but needs some refining. Mechanics wise, bit of a mixed bag, some improvements from POE and some issues. Not so good: I was worried about the story before release, had a feeling that with all the changes (mechanics, multi class, sailing, open world, continuing the watcher story from level one) the narrative was going to suffer. And that is the case. The story is not great, not what I'd expect from Obs to be honest. Obs can be great, but sometimes they make some strange decisions. A mid game expansion like White March being a perfect example. While the expansion was great on it's own, it didn't ft in with the story. And it brought some really unnecessary problems like balancing with it. Would have been a fantastic bit of work had it come after the story, like Motb. Likewise continuing the watchers story as is,has led to some rather large bandaids placed on the writing... not convinced about a giant statue turning into a god. For me, the wheel and the gods are one of the biggest selling points of the world, so destroying the wheel is a bit off a turn off. But the biggest issue is lack of motivation for everyone, from the watcher, to Eder, to Eothas(what the heck is Eder doing in the defiant at the beginning, how did he get there?) So overall the game is great, just not as good as the first, but more fun if that makes sense... Also pretty much what I expected, but what I didn't want. Obs are one of the best studios when it comes to writing, so a part of me is slightly disappointed. Having said all that they are in the process of building a very interesting world with a potentially great rpg system, from classes to role playing. So I guess time will tell. I just hope the dlc and sequel (if there is one) is more focused. Disclaimer. None of the above is meant to reflect the opinion of the gaming community at large.... Just my feelings which are mixed about the game.
  2. Gotta agree barbs were fantastic in POE, and they are great in Deadfire, even as a single class, but a tank they ain't. Paladins or chanter is always going to better for that purpose, and as people have said, for solo you need defense, and frankly many of the barbs abilities are not going to be great here. Doesn't mean the class is weak.
  3. Some people actually do like it and think it has potential... just needs some tweaking and it will work fine. By some, I am of course, referring to myself, I wouldn't dream of speaking for anyone else...
  4. Definitely have to speak to Seduza in the right order as fifthbilight said, else the correct dialogue with Orron or Seduza(after) won't trigger. Must be a bug, the workaround as said above is to speak to Seduza in the correct order, then you will be fine.
  5. I'm aware of how busy the devs must be, but if it's an easy fix(no idea) it would be nice if there was a hotfix for skipping the intro for us chronic restarters. Only if it's an easy fix though.
  6. Love it, hopefully all the gamergate/rpg codex/4 chann players are suffering from high blood pressure!
  7. I really like Serafen, though I'm not far in the game. I just wish the would tweak his stats slightly, so he makes a better cipher or barb, because currently he isn't good for anything. Xoti suffers from the same issue. I'm not a power gamer, but some minor tweaks would be great. Xoti is also a mixed bag personality wise for me, I want to like her, but I find religious fanaticism irritating... Companion I like the most has got to be Maia. Problem is I can't see myself allying with her faction, so I guess I will lose her... frustrating, though I might have to do a pro Ruatai run just for her.
  8. Multi classing is no different from single at the moment. It's going to depend on your classes. Some are just better than others at the moment. They will get balancing right but it will take time. I really liked the POE system and wish they hadn't made so many changes, mainly because it would have taken to many resources, and effected everything from balance to story negatively. While that has happened, in the long run now they have made the changes the ip will be better for it. It is a long term plan though. At the mo, classes are understandably unbalanced.
  9. If it's any consolation the devs will get balance right, it will take time. The balance is not great now, but to be fair, it's a hell of job balancing all the available options. Blame everyone who wanted multi classes ) POE balance was great at the end.
  10. Leave them as is. Using them is entirely optional so I don't see the problem. Also I plan on having some PoTD runs at some stage. And I personally would use them. Mainly for story/role playing, after all the watcher should have some benefits from previous adventures, he/she is hardly a newbie. So they make sense from that point of view. Also, most of them are hardly broken. Only the stat bonuses could be an issue if you are a min/maxer. The only time they should not be used is on the build forum.
  11. I'd hardly call the game unplayable at the moment, that'd be rather silly. Also while I played the first game mainly on PoTD, it does kinda become frustrating listening to all the "hardcore, super awesome" gamers out there who always complain about games being way to easy, as if that actually proves anything. Spoiler alert: it's just a game, contrary to popular belief, playing games on higher difficulties is not a superhuman feat. Nor is complaining that games are too easy...
  12. The one saving grace is that the members of their lowest caste are guaranteed to be reborn into a higher caste in the next life. If you think about it long-term (in which souls are cycling from caste to caste and every soul gets to inhabit all statuses multiple times), it actually makes a weird kind of sense. Every culture in POE has its downtrodden, but only the Huana guarantee that theirs is reborn into a better station. How (or if) they're able to actually manipulate the wheel in that way, I have no idea. If that's the case, yeah I havn't got far enough to figure out if they actually hire watchers to prove the theory! Still it means unnecessary misery and punishment for just being born...
  13. Relax, they need to focus on bugs and balance for the majority. They will attend to it in time. An online petition is pretty useless as they are actually aware of the issue and have said they will fix it. Patience, young Padawan.
  14. Huana definitely not good, they have an appalling caste system. In many ways I think they are the worst of the factions.
  15. More axes 1 and 2 handed would be cool. This issue kinda reminds me of the portrait-race imbalance, where some races have many options and others none... I'd imagine that there is lots of work involved, so I'm not asking for equal amounts, but if you figure, say 5 greatswords are a good number then there should around 3 options of all the other weapon types. That or drop the idea of having so many different weapon types because if there are no choices what's the point offering them as an option.
  16. Going to try a blackjacket/rogue at some point - looks like it will fit with the pirate theme nicely. Would be nice if I could use a male orlan - but the portraits are sadly limited for them. Not sure about the stats though? WIthout droppiing any below 9 what would be important for a pistol focused build? Might/Perc/Dex?
  17. BTW that pollaxe looks awesome! Thanks. Though to be honest not sure if the enchantments are great for a barbarian. Still looks good. And I will stop diverting the thread now!
