Patch 3.06 spotted!
rheingold replied to Infinitron's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yup, if nothing else just buff their beginning stats. No new powers needed. -
The big problem with leveling in POE was the mid game expansion. Not saying that the game was perfect before white march but it made it far worse. Level scaling is not the answer, it's like throwing a band aid on the black knight in "the holy grail". - "it's just a flesh wound, here have a plaster". One of the reasons that I'm so dead set against mid game expansions, and hope that Deadfire doesn't go that way. It's basically impossible to balance a game under those circumstances. I personally thought the expansions were fantastic, but adding so many new areas, quests and magic items in the middle of the game means that balance goes completely out the window.

Welll to confuse the issue of harpoons and spears, spearguns have spears which have ropes attached, and they are designed to get stuck. But they sure ain't called harpoon guns! If people really want to get into an argument (read adult discussion) they could try explaining the difference between a pollax and a halberd.... Going back to the topic at hand, I certainly didn't find the larder door way out as a weapon. In fact there were no weapons or items generally, which I thought were crazy. Not to say that they were not cool, just that I never did a double take and went "that's impossible, it would never work in real life"

Yup, we definitely deserve it! Obs owe us big time. In fact they are completely unreasonable. We should be far more involved in the production process. After all we crowd funded it. So in light of that I'm gonna make a list of issues that they had better resolve to my satisfaction. If they don't, I'm gonna, gonna........ sulk.

What reputation? He seems to work on any game that he is asked to work on at this point. His career at the moment seems to be more of a glorified KS stretch goal than an actual narrative designer. I would love him to focus on a project or two, instead of writing for multiple games at once. Then I could actually expect something from a game he is working on, instead of wondering how little work he actually did on the project and how he was paid and used to get some name recognition for the game. I think that's the point It would be fantastic if he had complete control creative control of a game. He still had a good reputation currently, which will suffer if he continues the way he's been going.

Excited about Avellone being involved, just concerned about the studio not having any experience. There have been some rather dodgy rpg's released recently by some small relatively unknown studios. The dwarves and Sword Coast come to mind. I certainly don't have any high expectations even if CA is involved. Just hope he doesn't destroy his reputation over this.

I have a plea to the devs: I know pillars support has/is coming to an end? Not sure if 3:05 was the last patch, but there won't be many more in any event. But is it possible to buff rogues base stats a bit. It won't take much work, (I think) and will make a huge difference to the class. It's also not going to break the game as rogues are quite far behind other classes. Just an increase in base deflection, and endurance/health more inline with other melee classes would help tremendously.

I'd say rogue or chanters would fit the bill. Resolve ends up arguably the most important dialogue stat, and both chanters and rogues can push resolve without impacting to much on their other functions. Both get bonuses to mechanics, and more importantly from a rp point of view they seem to be a more natural fit for all things mechanical than other classes. If you want more of a tank like character go chanter, if you want damage and stealth go rogue.

Vailian Republics aren't a choosable culture option though. Old Vailia is however. Given the presence of the Vailian Trading Company in PoE2, maybe we'll see that as an option, but that doesn't matter here as it's not an option in PoE1. Given how big the Aedyre empire is supposed to be, I suppose there could be some dwarves there. Uh my bad, got confused with Old Valia...

Well, dwarves are cool. I'd go boreal dwarf from white that wends. I like that background but go with whatever suits you. Stats are easy. High strength and constitution. If you are not into min/max I'd go 16 strength, 16 con. Which leaves 6 points for any stats of your choice. You don't need high dexterity, 10 will do fine if you are using fists, but if you want you could put a few points there. From what you say though I'd put 4 points into intelligence and 2 in resolve. So str 16, con 16, dex 10, perc 10, Int 14, resolve 12. Intelligence is actually a pretty good stat for monks, so actually the only waste from a power point of view would be the 2 points of resolve. Just make sure to pick up torments reach and force of anguish. Monks are fun but micro intensive.

Got to be honest, I would prefer them to be as quiet as possible.... couple of reasons. It takes time and effort to make updates. As Tigranes said above, they have been paid to make a game not make updates. Most importantly though, I'd prefer to go into the game completely spoiler free. And the updates can sometimes be a tad specific. Having said that it's easy enough to delete the emails without reading them, it just seems like a waste though.

My understanding is that it is very necessary for balance purposes. In pillars there are some seriously front loaded classes.... Rogues/ciphers/barbarians, I'm looking at you. This is an attempt to prevent every single build being a rogue 1/other class x. Also, hopefully it means that single classes are perfectly viable now. Looking forward to seeing how it works.

Must say as someone who many years ago studied fine art and design I seriously don't see any relation to anime in the devs work. In fact The Obs illustrators who are pretty darn good, have a very specific style of their own. Beyond the fact that in anime and the devs style, figures generally have 2 eyes, one nose, 2 arms and legs.... that's really the extent of overlap. I dont really have a bone to grind either, if people like anime that's really up to them. Makes zero difference to me. What I do want though, is for Obs to continue in the direction they are moving art wise. Wherever their inspiration comes from it works for me.

You can definitely use the companions. Actual party comp really depends on personal preference. For me, I find a melee heavy party makes the game easy - 4 front-liners and 2 ranged. But just about anything will be fine. Being under leveled though, can make things painful. Some of the bounties upscaled can be painful.
