  1. Very definitely a Druid for one of the slots. For the last one, well you had a priest and a paladin in your first party, so if you are looking to have completely new classes in the mix I would go for 2 chanters. Otherwise I'd add a priest.
  2. I reckon boots of speed would really help with positioning. And the cone length wouldn't be such an issue.
  3. Not sure about anyone else, but for me a rogue against 3 ogres is a Shakespearean tragedy. Yes they do loads of damage and kill enemies quickly before they get a chance to damage the rogue. But a rogue shines against one on one opponents. Against 3 ogres I seriously doubt it would kill even one before it hit the dirt. A barbarian with tall grass on the other hand will stand a very good chance of surviving against many opponents. And will add crowd control. If you make the rogue tankier ie, by giving it a shield, its dps drops considerably. They both have their own unique function and work well within their limits. Carnage is a bit of a one trick pony, but what a trick! Frankly it's one of the most powerful abilities. And I have found that using a barb with prone on crit to be the best and most reliable form of crowd control. Before anyone comments about wizards and druids.... obviously they are great but I try to rest as little as possible so a barb with tall grass and a stormcaller ranger work fantastically well. Finally you only feel rogues and barbs are slightly underpowered on POTD. On any other difficulty a well built barb is absolutely insane.
  4. To be honest it could be a play style issue more than anything else.... maybe they just don't suit your style? I find them really useful. Yes there are classes which are better specialists. But chanters do everything and they do it well. They make good tanks. At high level they do a reasonable amount of damage with the dragon chant. And the ice invocation is absolutely crazy. The stun and paralyze invocations are also pretty reliable. The buffs are great, in essence they are free, as in there is no real cost to using them. Unlike any of the vancian casters. And a paladin is limited to either an accuracy buff, damage reduction or speed, you can only pick one. I'd also say that the damage reduction chant is fantastic. In fact I find chanters much better than Paladins at buffing a party. Of course Paladins have other advantages.... So overall while they may be a jack of all trades, they are a good jack of all trades.... The biggest issue with chanters though is they are fairly understated, they just go about their business quietly and efficiently whereas other classes are far flashier. That makes it difficult to judge their worth. I think of chanters as the bass guitar players in a band. You have all the glory boys like the lead guitarists wailing away but the rhythm section is doing all the heavy lifting....
  5. For crowd control I'd definitely go with 2 characters: Druid and high perc and int barbarian with tall grass. Very difficult to beat that combo.
  6. Age of decadence can be completed with a non violent path. Not sure how many people you have to kill but if it's the pacifist route it's not many. Unfortunately the game itself is rubbish....
  7. Single god..... Seriously. It's nothing to do with single or multiple gods and everything to do with interpretation, power and corruption. God or gods and people using them for their own purposes are the problem. And with that I'm outta this troll thread.
  8. Great build and story as usual. Just wondering how you managed to get athletics to 719 and lore to 614
  9. It's rather a difficult thing to answer. Pillars is not particularly bloody game, but it is dark, really dark. The fact that it's an isometric game is definitely in your favour. If you zoom out you can end up being quite detached from just how grim and dark the story is. So not much blood but pretty dark. You can avoid killing if you are careful. Certainly you don't need to kill most of the wildlife, you just have to be careful n your scouting. So don't have an answer for you other than to try it. I reckon though if you have problems with pillars then just about every other game is going to be to much for you.
  10. Her desire for revenge is perfectly justifiable. Also the death penalty thing doesn't really apply here. I despise the death penalty in real life but in Pillars there is no way for the Devil to ensure justice is done other than attempting to kill them herself. There is no authority, no courts for her to go to plead her case. The woodcutters were as guilty as you can be of murder. The fact that a watcher can peer into Harmkes soul and see what really happened leaves absolutely no doubt that he was guilty. Extenuating circumstances..... well there aren't many. Mob rule shouldn't really be an excuse for murder. Regarding the devil being just as bad a murderer, well that could be debated.... Is she guilty of murder? Yes. Is she mad? Possibly. Has she undergone a ridiculously excessive punishment for her misdeeds. Absolutely. Bottom line, at the time of the quest, she is the only one out of the whole sorry Cold Morn episode who has paid for her misdeeds. Everyone else has got off scott free.
  11. Yeah not sure it's appropriate to be discussing religion and extremism that happens today in a gaming forum. But to the OP, fundamentalism and extremism are the problems with religion today BUT it is in no way just an Islamic problem. Christianity, Judaism, in fact every damn religion since Babylon has had these problems. Religious extremism has never been and is not confined to one particular race or creed.
  12. Well there are not going to be many more patches coming Pillars way. It's at the end of its developement cycle... So maybe one more patch, 2-3 at the most. Obs have actually done a great job with their support on this game.
  13. I tend to agree, although I think the real problem are powerful people using the masses belief in a God or gods to justify doing terrible things. Absolutely, the chances of Thor/Woden or Yahweh actually existing are pretty minimal - and yeah, religion is the perfect weapon for controlling groups of people. In fact, it may have even served some sort of evolutionary purpose in the past. It's great for sorting people into "us and them" groups. Which in our distant past could have been important. After all evolution is not just about competition amongst species but also between the individuals in a species. Which may explain why it works awesomely well splitting people apart. And the best thing.... You can never ever question it.
  14. One God or many.... Still one to many... God or gods are the problem. Or more precisely people worshipping god/gods without applying themselves are the problem.
  15. Phew tough one. Druids definitely no 1. But after that.... Barbarians, monks and rogues and chanters in no particular order. I reckon they have done a great job with the classes. In fact the question is easier to answer if you flip it. What are your least favourite classes? Well, for me it's a really short list: Cipher Priest Wizard. It's not a power issue or class mechanics, they just don't excite me. (Priests and mages have never been my among my favourites) Edit: forgot completely about Rangers... They are great to play as well. This is exactly why I have major issues choosing a main. I reckon out of the gazillion hours playing pillars, most of the time has been spent in the character creation screen and tutorial. Poor Odema just dies and dies...
  16. Absolutely, if you are looking for a role playing chanter then using Kdubyas attribute spread I'd drop perception by 3 and give it to resolve. So you'd have 13 perception, 13 resolve and 16 int, that's enough for a substantial amount of dialogue checks (with bonuses). Chanters as a main are great from a role playing point of view. One of my favourite characters is a boreal dwarf chanter - enchanter blacksmith from the white that wends named Elof Valantor. Obviously uses Abydons hammer though can switch to a shield if needed.
  17. Pets flank well enough and they do bucket loads of damage. They are an incredibly useful member of the party.
  18. To be fair to the devs, while there may not be a huge variety of crossbows and arbalests, the handful in the game are really great weapons. Hold wall is really underrated, particularly for a ranger. It's great for a substantial portion of the game until Stormcaller and then it just gets passed onto someone else.
  19. Yeah the upscaled ones in Elmshore are insane. I waltzed in there at around 12th level (Potd) thinking that I'd steamroll them and boy was I suprised.
  20. Not sure about wizard, I rarely play one, but Druid has a number of aoe spells that don't harm friendlies. Following on from Elric, if the indicator is all yellow then the spell in question does not touch friends at all. Also if you open the spell descriptions, there will be a note under area of effect, something like foe aoe or just aoe. Aoe in the description means everyone including your party gets hit, foe aoe means only enemies get zapped. Easiest way as Elric pointed out is to check the indicator though.
  21. So once again between Obs and Gog they have managed to break my game. Not sure who is constantly at fault and I actually don't care. The reality is that every darn patch I have to reinstall the entire game. Again I'm getting pink textures in the west tower of durgans keep. Which was fine the previous patch and broken the patch before that. Seriously guys its not cool.
  22. There were no mitigating circumstances. He and the others went to Cold Morn to wipe the village out. They spent hours there killing everything and everyone that moved including children. Yes, he might have felt regretted his actions during and afterwards but that doesn't lessen his culpability in anyway. He still killed and in fact, burnt a family to death. Seriously, what mitigating circumstances could there be.....
  23. Well he was guilty as charged.... And you can't excuse mob rule....
  24. Its really difficult to go wrong with tall grass, in fact I prefer it to tidefall..
  25. Monk+Cipher+pally sounds interesting. How would you build ur cipher? Because chanters rock:
