  1. Monks are great, no doubt about that... They do just about everything well. But they don't come close to a rogues damage output. Regarding soloing, well pillars was never balanced for that. The devs made that clear in the beginning. So yeah, you do have some classes which are better for soloing than others. Obviously the more tanky classes are going to be easier, like paladins and Monks. Rangers are an exception, they do dps, but they kite well and have a pet. So it's less about over powered and more about classes designed to suit a specific role. Monks by design are well suited to soloing, that doesn't mean they are over powered.
  2. Oh my Hat!!! I'm stunned. I'm running a Potd chanter main with 5 customs. No wizards, ciphers or priests. Only 2 casters really, a druid and chanter. Just fun characters:) All 5th level. I started Caed Nua, and everything was fine until the 2nd level, the xaurip blood pool level. It's not tough per say, but I'm trying to clear each level without resting. And the place is crawling with xaurips. So I get to the alcove right before the pool, and most of my characters are in a bad way and only one more cast of returning storm. The alcove is swarming with xaurips which I manage. But I don't see how I'm going to finish the level. Then I notice all the bodies lying around doing nothing.... So I pull everyone back and send my chanter forward. The cut scene plays and about a gazillion xaurips come running. (First Potd run, and I had no idea there were so many of the blighters). My characters are about to fall under an avalanche of slimy, chittering lizards when the chanter manages to get off the white worms chant. End of fight. Boom, 24 hits(18 hits, I critical rest grazes) and 7 or 8 missed. Unfortunately I don't know how to do a screen grab. But one minute there was a rolling, seething mass of hate, hunger and teeth, the next, one xaurip priest and one lonely trooper were all that's left. Unbelievable and loads of fun.
  3. +1 great idea. Just one issue though, I reckon to avoid confusion outdated builds should probably not be posted there. By outdated, I'm don't necessarily mean pre 3:0, just that the build should still be viable with all the changes. Otherwise it will be a nightmare for people, especially who don't know the difference between pillars mk 1/2 and 3
  4. Nope, they are just being lazy....... Well if you pray hard, really hard for the gods at Obsidian they might be kind and release the patch notes. But the reality is they took two days of rest instead of one.
  5. Maybe, I also couldn't use stealth, and my party was on its last legs, I fought my way through to the tent and then didn't rest, no spells, little health... Imagine my surprise on exiting the tent! It was a painful fight largely because no preparation. Thank the gods for Sagani . For about half an hour I kept muttering to myself, "and people say Rangers are useless "
  6. Well, I think noober is clearly overpowered, so this time I'd try a class like a barbarian.... Seriously though I think it would be impossible with some classes. Rogues and Rangers I suspect would be the easiest. Though I use the term "easiest" rather advisedly as my mind is ready to explode just thinking about the noober challenge...
  7. Effectively I did with Sagani, not out of choice though, the rest of the party kept dying on me . Only had to kite 2 of them though, the useless party members managed to just about bring one down. Was easy, but took forever.... Mainly because Sagani only had Stormcaller. Was on hard not POTD though in this case I reckon it's no more difficult on POTD than hard, just more time consuming. Best to bring another bow if you are using a ranger though, and I'm sure a ranger will be the easiest to solo with. I don't even want to think about trying a melee character...
  8. Well done! Only problem now for you, is you are going to have to do a noober playthrough with each class
  9. Yeah it's a line, with high int a long long line. It doesn't seem to be able to hit two side by side opponents. But monks are fast so it's about positioning them so there are a couple of opponents in a line. Works if you have other tanks engage a mob then just mosey along so you are 90 degrees to them.... Can be tough to set up but as jk said its rewarding when it happens.
  10. Force of anguish is great. I've been playing with a 12 int monk(14 with items) and between torments and force it's insane. Torments with high int has a huge reach if you position the monk properly and force of anguish's duration is great with 14 int. Said it before, intelligence is seriously under rated for a monk.
  11. It can be tough getting to the vithrack level in Caed Nua, it's just every time I go to Cragholdt I manage to aggro just about every darn merc there. I'm starting to have nightmares where I wake up screaming surrounded by a ton of angry monks who proceed to pull me apart piece by piece. It's probably why I leave Cragholdt till level 14 or so...
  12. CS Lewis and Tolkein were incredibly religious and their work is full of blatant Christianity propaganda, so much so that some of it offends me.
  13. To be honest, coffee is one thing I don't want to believe in. But alas, it's hard to ignore it's call and beckoning. Ha, I do admit coffee smells better than it tastes. Nothing like walking into a good coffee shop.
  14. ^ Yeah its really easy to see how being an atheist and believing in silly things like life, love, art, science, family, friends and coffee can be misconstrued as being a nilhist.... and living a life completely devoid of meaning.
  15. your personal conspiracy theory were unsupportable and uninteresting, which is why participants in the thread ignored your raison d'etre for creating the thread. gonna take your ball and play somewheres else? is one option, we s'pose. ... even so, we would expect more from a would-be general zod. HA! Good Fun! Even if the lead designer was shoving his nilhist beliefs down people's throats which I don't believe he is doing for a moment, that would be fine - he's the lead designer.... Much like a writer is free to write about what they want - you really don't have to like the book, but they have a right to express their views. Why should a game be any different? Seriously get off your high horse, we get that you are religious and don't like anyone questioning YOUR religious beliefs (presumably you don't mind if someone criticizes another made up god), but I am not. And as I have said before it's not even about criticizing religion rather its an attempt to question religions role in society. If you don't get that then I don't know.
  16. You used to be able to buy exceptional robes in one of the last levels of Caed Nua, think it's level 12 or 13. Only if you resolve an issue peacefully though. I haven't got there yet since WM 2 so I'm not sure if that's still the case. But there definitely used to be a vendor with exceptional robes there.
  17. Phew that is impressive, and just in time for my new playthrough, coincidentally with a Druid main:)
  18. Is the reason for the Druids jaw dropping performance compared to a rogue not due to a bug? Also it comes pretty much at the end of the game.
  19. Ranger companions are like rogues - you have to babysit them otherwise they end up sleeping through much of the game. But if you take the requisite pet talents and are prepared to do a bit of micro managing they do absolutely insane dps. They are also useful in many other respects, crowd control, extra victim, uh body up front, they don't take health damage when they are knocked out.... Very useful overall. That's not even taking the ranger into account.
  20. Well, I'm not so sure about this, yes it is a fantasy game, but sometimes good fiction asks serious questions, you know about life, the universe and everything.... Pillars is pretty good in that respect which is in fact why the op is upset, as opposed to being upset about the old ie games. But he is definitely taking this way to personally.
  21. Jeez, I don't know if I can agree with you here.... Applauding his chutzpah is kinda like applauding a Darwin Award winners chutzpah.
  22. I have been playing RPGs and other genre's for over 20 years but I haven't felt that way about a game's story...........but in this one it really seemed like that this idea of Gods being a lie, was deliberately pushed into the face of audience....... But in this case the gods are not a lie, they exist, they are real as can be. It just happens that in this case they are man made, much like in our world.... I think you have completely misunderstood what the writers were attempting to say... and you are over sensitive. The game is not an attack in Christianity or any other religion. Rather it is an attempt to ask important questions about religion, how it starts and most importantly why it starts? And is there a fundamental need for people to believe or not? Do people need God to be good? Loads of questions and all of them are important especially in our current climate, but it's not a personal attack on your beliefs.
  23. Sigh.... really it's a cliche! Actually it's one of the better written games around. It's not simply about atheism but rather about questioning the role of religion in society. For a fantasy game it's remarkably nuanced, but I guess if you are religious you probably won't like anything which questions religion. Begs the question why would you play the game then?
