As said above sounds like you need a couple more levels. If I recall correctly those Pwgra's have some nasty druid spells. Bear in mind that Pillars is fairly open, once you do the stronghold you can pretty much go anywhere. Doesn't mean you should. There are some tough areas - and you don't really get hints that the encounters are way above your level - (which is a good thing.)

Witcher and pillars are really different, both fantastic but different enough that it's tough to compare. Funnily enough I find Pillars has much more replay value than the witcher. Mainly because while it's one of the best games made and certainly the best open world game, it's tough going. By this I mean the story (which is exceptionally well written) and the overall darkness don't make it easy. For example, skyrim I found fairly light hearted , no story to speak off, but fun. I could and still fire it up just to wander aimlessly around with no commitment or responsibility. I can't do that with the witcher. It's just not "fun" it's a serious game with with a major time commitment...

Jeez, I remember being really confused going through the battery the first time, thought the fact that my characters where ending up in different parts of the map during combat was a bug. I think it's great though that there are some encounters which are radically different and more difficult though I can understand the frustration of people who are playing on POTD. ( I play on hard and some of the battery fights are difficult enough.) Having said that I reckon it's good design - it really tests some peoples glass cannon builds!

Might not be pretty mediocre is one of the vaguest statements on quality I've ever seen :-P I'm not sure how that "not" snuck in there. auto correct fail? Auto correct is so bad (I have Android and apple) that I sometimes think the software developers are trolling us. I have a vision of them all sitting in a basement somewhere with various focus groups coming up with as many auto correct fails as possible designed to humiliate people as much as possible.

The NPC's in NWN and NWN2 were not great though, obviously in NWN they were virtually non existent, in 2 well they were mostly irritating. Neeshka has got to be my "most irritating character ever". I'm never happy when npc's turn against me and I have to kill them, but I gladly made an exception with her. MotB had much better npc's, but I have to say I still liked both of NWN's. They had moments of genuis in them. The "village out of time" Lathander quest in NWN is still one of my favourite quests. But consistency was an issue. -

Nonsense, the Gamergate story is well documented by a variety of media companies many of them not particularly left wing. The harassment from those **** of women gamers is well known. BTW comparing SJW's to Nazis. Way to go! Hyperbole much? -

Everything is pretty new so not much info is available. I actually find that a positive thing, many new worlds start out vague and exciting. There is a sense of mystery about them. And then the details arrive.... Many fantasy writers aren't that great, and the devil is in the details.Good example is Warcraft, many years ago when there were hints and rumors, it was an interesting place, but as soon as they started laying down detail after detail the magic disappeared. The mind hunters are very cool and I'd imagine a wild Orlan would fit right into that theme. Not sure how much you know about the backstory? http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Mind_hunter -

Mask of the betrayer ftw! Westgate was great though. SoZ was a mixed bag for me. I liked the ideas and experimentation behind it. The world map and trading was fairly unique, so know kudus for the devs experimenting. But overall I thought it just didn't gel well. I did enjoy it though, just thought it didn't quite work out. -
I don't mind the idea of random drops, I'm just not sure how it actually works. Seems to in Pillars it isn't that random, and that's the problem. For instance I get certain items a lot. Obviously there is a rarity issue at play, but even taking that into account I still end up with a heck of a lot of useless trinkets. And the good items, well I can go multiple playthroughs without seeing one.

Brindle - I really find it difficult to figure out when you are trolling. I suspect in fact that this whole darn thread is a troll, just like some of the others you have started. Incidentally the forum has got worse, lots worse. Might be interesting to see who signed up around that time.... -

Agree with Sed, not all of us are like that. Not sure why the forums have turned nasty over the last few days. But I'll leave it to Jack for the final words... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MPMmC0UAnj0 -
I absolutely hate people who compare Internet forums to incredibly repressive dangerous regimes or historical mass genocides. Suggest they get an education and learn the difference between posting on a forum and the holocaust. Sorry mods, feel free to step in, but really it's pathetic and offensive.

Actually I argued that AD&D was interesting while PoE was elegant. I don't know where you read that AD&D was elegant. Think we are getting to caught up in word play that doesn't really mean anything. Right: plain English here I come. D&d was badly designed and a poor base to translate to video games. It was far from perfect and made little or no sense. There were a couple of power builds and most of everything else was sub par. Spellcasters were terrible for large chunks of the game, some for the whole game, while others became boring time stop, wail of the banshee spamming gods eventually. (Before you accuse me of hating d&d please read my previous post about it being a wonderful visionary system that was a product of its time.)
-
Where on earth did this crazy idea that d&d was a good / elegant system come from? I started playing early eighties, and I absolutely love it and its various iterations, my life would have been poorer without it. But a good system? Really folks? For its time it was fantastic, visionary I dare say thanks to Mr Gygax. But looking back, there are huge faults with the system and its offshoots especially when it was roped into video game service. Pillars is far superior and indeed more elegant. People who say otherwise really need to take their rose tinted glasses off occasionally. May even see things clearer. Not suggesting that Pillars is perfect, far from it, but compared to d&d, it's far better.

mmm, I don't mind as long as whatever system the devs choose is done well. Problem is that I think they had to go this route. There is a loud and vocal minority group who reckon the game has strayed from the ie template too much as is. There would be hair pulling, chest beating and wailing on a mass scale if Obs had made much more changes to what some people regard as sacred and the pinnacle of game developement:) -
Seem to recall seeing on a recent thread, someone suggested Rogues are the weakest class. Which is slightly odd, they are squishy, yes. But hell, a dual wield sabre rogue is bat**** insane. Take withering strike, crippling strike and blinding strike. Insane damage. Never played a ranged rogue though, always taken a Ranger. May have to give it a go sometime.

The Gamergate crowd threatened to rape women. There was and is no justification in a civilized society for them. Period. -
More info would help, as in what classes and stats have you got, what weapons are you using? The latest patch also made it slightly more complicated with some immunities as well. Generally, in a rather vague sort of way you need 2 weapons with different damage types ie slashing/ crushing. Regarding high dr, 2 handed weapons or Sabres are good, also some weapons give a bonus towards overcoming dr, stilettos and war hammers (I think),among them The vulnerable attack and penetrating shot talents bypass some dr, which makes a substantial difference against high dr. Though you may need to respec for that. Not sure on ranged weapons, but as far as I remember, blunderbuss is weak against high dr and aerqubus/pistols good. Bows are also not great. So to summarize, vulnerable attack/penetrating shot either with high base damage weapons - pistols/aerqubus/sabre or with weapons which bypass some dr -stilettos/war hammers.... Edit: enchanting is less effective than choosing the right weapons in this case.

Even without stormcaller Rangers are great. As said above, their pets alone are close to a two handed rogues output and they are far sturdier. Knockdown is a nice bonus. Rangers do a substantial amount of damage and have thorny roots, one of the best single target "debuffs" in the game. Essentially you get two good characters for the price of one. Who doesn't like a good deal? Of course, once you go stormcaller they become insane.
