  1. So... do the gods in POE actually exist? Not meant as theological question; in the Discworld or Forgotten Realm universes, they hang around.
  2. Serena from Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (2000 or 2001 game) She was a Companion playable character in the first half of the game, the Dark Age part and I grew attached to her... I remember desperately looking for her in the second half, the modern setting part.
  3. I think it is the latter. I am hard pressed to find a source though. With regards to levelling I have two concerns. Artificial level caps and every creature in the multiverse levelling up when the PC levels up. Sorry for going on a tangent wrt your question about max levels.
  4. Skepticism is the name of the game and not just with Kickstarter. Look at recent games that are definitely not kickstarted: TW Rome 2, Sim City (5), Diablo 3 and X-Rebirth. Bugs we have come to expect, sadly, but horrendous design decisions are unfixable. Kickstarter has 2 advantages on that front 1/ No suits caring more about nickel and diming the player than about the gameplay. 2/ Some transparency, and influence from the future gamers. Personally I have enjoyed Shadowrun, Wasteland 2, Blackguards, Divinity Original Sin, and clocked more hours on them then any recently releases AAA game, with the exception of XCOM. And even XCOM had weird dumbed down design decisions (can I have a second Skyranger plix ?) Colour me contrarian, but the kickstarter game I played and disliked the most is FTL, too much RNG in it. I am not worried or uneasy for PoE. You mention 2 cities, multi level dungeon, races, classes,... Well they are already very far in design and implementation everyone of those aspects, judging by the 70 updates... and that with almost a year to go.
  5. Earthdawn 4th Edition http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/783548120/earthdawn-4th-edition My favourite system, it is like D&D except it makes sense (In this world, there is a perfectly good reason to have dungeons with treasures and monsters,... and so on) The Earthdawn Franchise has been a bit of a mess, with Fasa abandoning it, RedBrick and another company acquiring it and taking it into different directions, then Fasa re-acquiring it recently. The Earthdawn setting is a precursor to the more well-known Shadowrun setting.
  6. FWIW I approve of FF, full 100% damage on the whole area, and of adding the ability to reduce the area affected (radius if sphere, or angle if cone) by using mouse wheel or whatever. It does not have to be completely free but some discrete values are ok. I mean I don't need to be able to cast an AoE 69.6 % of the maximum, choosing between 40%, 60%, 80% will do.
  7. Played 4 hours or so, Alpha is Alpha and so on... Likes: - Controlling 2 characters with different personalities; when they argue with each other it feels schizophrenic. - The elements interacting with each other and the environment is great. - Game is stable, had no crashes. Just one lockup into a dialogue that I couldn't exit, no biggie. Things that need/will/should be fixed: - I saw an Orc attacking his shaman, I guess the latter got caught in an AoE cast by the former. It was hilarious, actually maybe this is working as intended, they are after all Orcs. - Almost all of the inhabitants have a comment when asked about that crime committed in town, "Esme did it, she is guilty as sin". Was fun when Esme herself had that comment. - Attacking NPCs... We murdered some 5 guards in town. No one seems to care. No witnesses, but still... somebody should react to that. - Attacking main NPCs... When approaching a certain main NPC weapons in hand confronting him... He literally disappeared in a puff of smoke. Was hoping the game would deal with it a bit better. - Balance. Seems ranged + magic is much more powerful than melee. I have won battles 3 (level 3) vs 10 (level 5+) by environment & AoE spells, summoned creatures tanking and ranged weapons,... that is great, but my main characters actually had more talent/skill points in melee combat, going into melee was very painful not to mention degraded weapon and armour. - Need killing blow to gain XP; XP denial by allied NPC. Seems it is better to let the NPCs die or kill stealing from them, than actually fighting with them as allies. - I have characters skilled in gear repair and lock-picking,... no idea if they are not implemented or I just haven't found out how to used them or am missing an item to do it (lockpick ? Repair tool ?) - Piles of gold in inventory. So I usually get a bit of gold for every transaction with an NPC. Problem is I now have 10 piles of gold cluttering my inventory, couldn't find a way to consolidate them into a single one. - When attacking if you miss-click you can end up healing an enemy or attacking an ally. I don't mind that in principle, but maybe get a warning "Are you sure you want to do that ?" would be helpful. Especially since with the isometric view, it is sometimes hard to target a crab behind a character when only a wiggly leg appears behind her. The most hilarious thing was my character *shield bashing herself* instead of the crab. Hmm I should probably communicate the above to Larian but then again anyone playing 4 hours would have likely come across most of the above. Edit: typos
  8. First into the battlefield, But the last one out. Now buried with his shield, Our most valiant scout.
  9. "Toon" an obscure reference to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toon_(role-playing_game) But the poll choices give it away. So you are going for a Muscle/Zip character or a Smarts/Chutzpah one, interesting
  10. Thanks for the update the char sheet was very informative... The Elapsed Time, Travel Time are oddly specific, I must add.
  11. KOTOR 3 ? Link below is old news,... but maybe they finally got through. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/02/08/new-republic-obsidian-actively-pitching-more-star-wars/#more-141549
  12. Nice, let us know what you think of Blackguards and W2. No need break the NDA just some high level perspectives No NDA on those 2. They have balance issues, which will likely be ironed out by release... but I think both are worth picking up when they go into some steam sale,... if you are into turn-based, squad based, story-light type RPGs I have played my share of MMOs and I like the TES franchise (esp Morrowind) so you'd expect this is right up my alley. It isn't: The centrality of PvP, the monthly fee and the compromises for co-releasing on consoles, each would be enough to turn me off. I wont be breaking an NDA by saying I agree with this guy: http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2014/01/02/predicting-the-biggest-disaster-of-2014-the-elder-scrolls-online/ That said the freedom in the character development and the combat are nice, so I am looking forward to playing around with it in Beta,... but paying box + $180/year for a game I will only be playing occasionally ? Nope! I am pretty sure the post-rookie class is randomly determined but hidden when the rookie is created. The only exception to the randomness is the four rookies you start with; each will graduate to a different class (if they live long enough)
  13. Yeah I saw the typo in the poll but daren't change it as the votes were coming in. That said if there was option for 5 cannons, that would be my first pick... they'd be more effective than the 5 adventurers I will pick and have just as much personality That said, I hope the 'Companion' vs 'Adventurer' naming sticks.
  14. Early Access of Blackguards and Wasteland 2 Civ 5 and M&B Warband are the two games I keep going back to when the novelty of new games wears off... Oh and TESO Beta is the plan for the week end.
  15. Judging by the poll so far, I'm the weird one; I am the only one going for all-adventurer party.
  16. So, in your first playthrough is it going to be BG style companions or IWD style companions for you guys ? PoE luckily gives the option for either, or a mix of both. Personally I am probably going for all custom, since I have my mind pretty much made up about classes and race (Elves, or godlike w/ elf parentage) for my party. Leaving the companion stuff for second playthrough, if I hire them in the first I will park them in Stronghold most of the time... I don't think I will mix them though.
  17. I am late to the show, but interested. PnPwise, I mostly have Earthdawn experience, but can read up on whatever else. Also I suggest that using roll20 instead of Skype, since voip is out anyway.
  18. I am unsure if the class/races constitute spoilers, using this sub-forum to be safe. Polls attached. Apologies for merging rogues and rangers,... forum only allows 10 choices for poll questions. Nb: Votes are public.
  19. The AI guy, well one of them, did an AMA on reddit a while back. Turns out he is the one behind the AI in DS3, which reportedly is quite good. I am pretty sure the same algorithms and architecture if not the same code will be used in PoE, so I am expecting it to be at least just as good as DS3. Unfortunately I haven't played that game so I don't have a first hand account of it. http://www.reddit.com/r/projecteternity/comments/10392u/iama_long_time_redditor_and_software_engineer/
  20. Q1: No x 2. Whatever works. As long as the 6 points you mentioned in the start are adhered to. Q2: Don't mind either way. Q3: Separate. Q4: On what then would it depend ? Q5: No Q6: I like to see the weight and encumbrance limitations being separate: I mean there might be people who are strong enough to carry around the weight equivalent 2 extra suits of armor, 5 different 2H weapons, a 4 man tent and a 12 foot ladder but not the items themselves due to how clumbersome that would be. Weight limitation is strength based, encumbrance is not.
  21. Instead of adding more companions, I would rather have the ability to give a background and the resulting interactions to an Adventurer's Hall type character. Of course it can't be a separate background for every class, race, gender combination... but could be common ones for "Elvish Caster" or "Rangers of any race" and so on. As it stands now the choice is between companions with depth with class/race/... that might be unwanted, OR tailor made companions with no depth at all.
  22. What about joining and even becoming leader of a given faction ? (I have a mixed feeling about this,... in the Elder Scroll games, I liked ending up as a leader of every known and less know faction just as much as I disliked people completely ignoring that fact in their dialogues and instead still spoke to the character as a random dirty adventurer.)
