They can keep the firearm damage but increase the reloading time. A muzzle loaded musket took 20s for a very highly skilled soldier to load/aim/fire,... more than twice that for some untrained person. He is also very vulnerable while doing so. A more realistic way for firearms in this setting is start the fight with a loaded gun, shoot it, then equip some other weapon and go at it from there.

Combat XP Poll - Let's See What We Think Now
Lioness replied to SergioCQH's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I have a lot of issues with combat, but the XP or lack there off is not one of them. -
I agree 100%. The only reason I did not suggest TB in my feedback is that it is quite unrealistic at this stage to get it implemented (The ideal would be like FOT:BOS, where you can swap between TB and RT, on the fly iirc).

Combat feels: Activeness, Speed and Pace.
Lioness replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I am not OP. But the fundamental difference to me, between IE combat with pause and PoE is this in my opinion: If you set the IE game to auto-pause in the start of a round, you can then just give orders to all your characters at that time and not worry too much about anything until next auto-pause at start of next round. Since all characters are synched to that cycle. I think I heard Josh mention that to achieve the same thing in PoE one just needed to set an auto-pause every 6 (or was it 10s?). That is not really the same, since each character does their thing asynchronously. If you auto-pause every X seconds, some might have been idling for the last X-1s some might still be in the middle of their casting, etc... -
I agree with this. My issues are: - Finding the right setting for auto-pause: Some settings cause it to pause too often, and I have no idea whether they characters need new orders so fast since last pause,... or it pauses too rarely leaving the character idly staring into the blue. Ideally I would like an auto-pause configuration where I don't have to pause manually at all (if I hit pause, right after an auto-pause triggered, I end up un-pausing instead). Maybe a pause and centre on an is idle character. - The combat log, is too obscure ( "Lioness hit Spider for 0.0"/"Lioness killed Spider", 0.0 damage ? did I sneeze on it ?), too short and the window too small; only a couple of entries at a time when scrolling. - Some feedback as to who is engaged to whom would be useful - The ability to queue 3 or so actions would be grand (KOTOR-like), make an auto pause only when queue is empty... So I can get a breather and only focus on positioning the Wizard ideally so his cone only hits enemies. - Scriptable AI for companions would be nice. Setting up threshold for when the priest needs to heal, setting up the ranged character to shoot the most injured enemy when he has no other specific orders etc... The combat has huge potential, I love the characters abilities spells, the challenge, and the fact that I have to apply tactics and be aware on the team members and the enemies strength and weaknesses to win,... I just feel the game doesn't give me the tools to achieve such tight control. TL;DR: I feel like I am fighting the gain control of the party's actions more than fighting the enemies most of the time.
-
I have to second this. I guess there is an ideal configuration of auto-pause setting that allows efficient control over each character, I just have not found it yet. I feel like I am fighting to gain control of my team more than I am fighting the enemies.

Yes I had the same concern. You thought you gave 18 in a stat to the character. You might find out before you leave character creation that includes the default culture's bonus, that you lose when you change it... or you might not. Speaking of character creation: Druid. So the druid can chose an Animal Form there but there is no in-game description of the benefit of each. I guess the Stag allows to engage more enemies, the Bear is quite a robust tank, the Wolf has good damage,... but I shouldn't have to guess.

Objectives disappearing, no xp for completion.
Lioness replied to iamgoukas's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Yes that's what happened to me. Journal is completely wiped but questgivers act as if I am already on the quest. Here is how it happned. 1/ Created an played around a bit with character A. 2/ Created an played around a bit with character B. (A is at a dead end because disappearing gear bug) 3/ Close the game. Restart it. Press Continue on the main menu. 4/ Get surprised that it is actually character A that gets loaded even though my savegames on character B are more recent (that in itself is an annoying bug) 5/ Load character B manually: Journal empty. Expected: Journal to contain the three quests I started. Edited: Yes seems to be the known issue of loading a from within a game session as opposed to from the main menu, maybe in conjunction with it being a different character ? Also still please note the issue at 4/, continue should load the most recent save regardless of character. -
Same here Mage and Priest weapons disappeared, I believe after a transition or a save. Even reloaded a save I made just seconds after character creation. Priest and Mage weaponless there too.

Still going for Paladin-Druid-Chanter-Cipher-Mage-Priest, beta hasn't really changed it. The philosophy is that the synergies and buffs will make up for the lack of the ideal classes for tanking and heavy hitting. The main character is probably be one of the classes where a companion is not available (Haven't see a druid so far)
-
You are probably right but, I would think that fighters scale with the gear quality much more than monks: A level 5 monk might outshine a very badly geared level 5 fighter, but at level 10 when the fighter gets his epic lvl10 armor/sword/shield, not so much.

I am unsure that elves and orlan being at the same height as a human (door)knob is by design. -
Thoughts on Gamescon Stream
Lioness replied to Pray's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Combat felt quite a bit clunky with the permanent pausing and clickity clicking around. I prefer turn based when there is more than one character involved (yes I know the IE games weren't). That said I am all for realtime combat with pause too, but that does not preclude the ability to queue up commands and/or scriptable AI companion behaviour. (Like KOTOR for example) -
Puzzles in crpgs
Lioness replied to Hiro Protagonist II's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
My issues with puzzles is most often the breaking of immersion. As in: Why did the architect or builders of this mansion decide it was a brilliant idea to have a pressure plate puzzle between the living room and the diner ? -
A Question of Revenue
Lioness replied to Natusake's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I am unsure about the "niche" thing. "Divinity: Original Sin", a similar cRPG or at least one that could appeal to the same demographics seems quite popular. For example there was 3 threads on the front page of /s/games, talking about that game yesterday, and the gamer population of that subreddit is quite diverse. -
Your PoE Pros and Cons: 5 and 5
Lioness replied to Zombra's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No Al2O3 I am not that Lioness, although I have used the handle in some other games (mainly MMOs) and associated forums. And as to why I put "No Romance" as pro. I have nothing against romance, but if done right, it needs a lot of work. I prefer the devs and writers to use that time on more general type of companionship and story instead of shoe-horning it in the game. If romance was to be added at any stage of the development in either something else would have to go out or the game would be delayed. If romance was to be added I would like answers to questions like this: Views on homosexual, heteroracial, relationships has to be addressed, with different factions in the game having different opinions and reacting differently,... What if one of the romance companion became pregnant ? Needed to spend pregnancy/maternity in stronghold ? What if the PC became pregnant ? What if two of your companions became infuriated with each other ? It shouldn't be a PC privilege... Are any of the races/cultures bigamous ? polygamous ? polyandrous ? Why should this fantasy world confirm to 21st century political correctness ? -
Your PoE Pros and Cons: 5 and 5
Lioness replied to Zombra's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Lioness' Pros The Classes in general. A nice mix of the familiar and the original. Stronghold and the multi-levelled dungeon. Nice way to take break from the 'normal' game flow. No class-based armor / weapon restriction when it comes to classes. The dialogue trees No Romance (yeah a pro) Lioness' Cons Companion NPCs. It seems the choice is between classe/races I like with automaton type companions OR companions with depth but not a class I want/need in group. I would have preferred the personality and the class separated: Like create a companion Icewind dale style but give him or her a background that opens up quests, interactions etc... Honestly I don't know enough of the game to come up with more cons, a bit too early to talk about UI etc... -
Where is everyone from
Lioness replied to Sales101's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Dane living in Ireland's Gaeltacht. I haven't raided any monastery yet though. -
My XCOM pet peeve is: I want more Skyrangers! I can build a score of alien inspired fighter crafts but never a second Skyranger :/ I get the dilemma of choosing to clear abduction spot A, B or C... but that's a very gamey choice compared to a if I had to split my dozen of troops into two or three Skyrangers to save all spots at the same time or fail horribly trying. That or trying to scrape together a Bravo squad to clear a crash site while Alpha squad is busy somewhere else. Overall I am happy enough with the squad tactics aspect of the game, but I feel Firaxis have gone too far into the streamlining of the strategic part of the game.

Russia II, this time it's something something

Summer Olympics in Mecca? I am not remotely interested in the Olympics, but would pay to watch ladies run 100m hurdles while they are wearing Niqab or Burka in 50C temperatures Or... "Would you demand that [ladies] should demonstratively" wear culturally offensive clothes that expose anything but the eyes ?
