  1. I already stated that the spiritual successor of Fallout was Arcanum. Fallout 3 will definitely not resemble the first two, but that doesn't mean it will be terrible. I look forward to it.

  3. Morrowind actually has a pretty big fanbase, and it sold very well for an RPG (I'm sure someone will argue that it's not an RPG, but it was marketed that way and that's what leads sales.) Troika never achieved the commercial success that Bethesda has, so it's not worth discussing who would be better. Troika is dead. They made a Falloutish game that used the exact same techniques (gameplay, character creation, graphics, storytelling) called Arcanum. It was set in a totally different world, but it was still a spiritual successor. Fallout 3 will probably not share the gameplay, character creation, and graphics of Fallout 1 and 2. Hopefully it will capture the type of storytelling, and I trust that the gameworld will be outstanding, because Bethesda knows how to make gameworlds. It will not be a top down perspective, but that's not the end of the world. Hopefully it will be a positive evolution, but Bethesda needs to market this game. If they release a souped up version of the original, it will not sell to the masses. The hardcore gamers will rejoice, but it will not be marketable to the console generations. Bethesda is a company, and they need to turn a profit, or they will go the way of Troika.
  4. Games have to evolve eventually. Otherwise they just die off. I'm hoping that Fallout 3 is a great porduct that captures the post-apocalyptic environment. Bethesda is a very solid developer. But it's not in our hands, so there is no real reason to worry.
  5. I've played a couple adventure games that had more open ended puzzles. The story took different routes based on how you solved a puzzle. This eliminates the trial and error concept somewhat. I heard Farenheit was like that, and there was a great Bladerunner game that allowed that as well.
  6. The Colts have to be close to a shake up. They are a dominant team, but they can't put it together in the playoffs. It's going to be an interesting Superbowl. Originally I would have gone with New England or Indy wiping the floor with whoever gets there, but now we've got quite a few surprise teams. It's a real crapshoot.
  7. What about something like Fahrenheit? Fights can break out, but there isn't really a battle system per say, just DDR with your hands. Why would adventure games systematically only include 'stories without combat'? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I said "typically" That doesn't mean there aren't alternative ways to tackle the genre. Fahrenheit was a very unique game, and I hope to see more of these types. It might re-define the adventure genre.
  8. An adventure game typically defines a game where progress is measured solely on the ability to solve puzzles, rather than defeating any opponents. There are rarely any reflexes needed in an adventure game. Some are dialogue heavy, although I've seen a few good adventure games without that. Personally, my favorite part of an adventure game is exploring an environment without the threat of a fight breaking out. That's why I chose "level of detail" although I think all aspects are important.
  9. Holy Moly, it has Milla Jovovich! That looks awesome, way better than Aeon Flux. Now some of you seem to have unrealistic expectations about these movies. They are action fluff. I expect good fight scenes, good special effects, and decent one-liners. Jovovich is the best woman at filling these roles. She looks realistic as a fighter and she's sexy as hell. I enjoyed both Resident Evil movies and The Fifth Element. She should have done Aeon Flux instead of Charlize Theron.

  13. Seems pretty real to me, and honestly, they do it with fish already. I'm guessing there will be drawbacks to this type of genetic manipulation. Hopefully they'll find that out before we get a glow in the dark child.
  14. Mossa, that's great to hear. Keep educating yourself and you'll have a great leg up on people down the road. Also stay in school, because that will open doors for you. A college degree isn't necessary to get a job and do it well, but it shows an employer that you know how to follow through and complete a long term task. It shows dedication and determination.

  17. That was pretty funny. SNL tends to go in waves of talent. Now is kind of a rebuilding time for them. Maybe I should Tivo an episode and see if it's improving.
  18. Shadowrun is a big favorite, and that's no surprise. Alternatively, I'd love to see a RIFTS type game, but I have no clue how it would be done. RIFTS was huge, so you'd have to just choose an area.
  19. Well, if it's deleted...we don't really know who to PM. That was actually a very useful thread, so I think we really need a new one to help everyone keep track of Xfire profile names and such.
  20. I can, Daggerfall and Arena were way ahead of their time. When it comes to graphics, RPG's usually get the short end of the stick, but Bethesda has consistently pushed the envelope. Now Morrowind came out at the same time as NWN. I bought them both, but Morrowind captured my attention first. It was a beautiful game, and I enjoyed a good 30 hours of it. It had flaws, like no real compelling story or characters, but I don't regret buying it. NWN had the same flaws in my eyes, but it wasn't as pretty. Eventually NWN convinced me otherwise, but that was more because of the user made mods that were released and the expansions. NWN had legs. Bethesda, in my eyes, is a company that keeps RPG's as a viable genre. RPG companies are few and far between, and many can't survive. Bethesda has a solid track record and they've pushed the envelope with every release. That's a good thing in my book. If Oblivion has interesting characters and an engaging plot, it will make me happy, but even if it doesn't, it raises the graphical standards of the RPG genre. That seems worth getting excited about. PS - I don't trust PC gamer at all. They are the biggest sell outs in the industry. I'll wait for the Computer Gaming World preview.

  22. The game is based around the Silent Storm engine, as I said earlier, and Nival seemed to be pretty involved. Out of all the Russian development studios, I'd say Nival and Akella are the only two that really compete with the rest of the world.

  25. The rumor was he got hired by Bioware. I heard the guy who did the Dreamcatcher series was offered a job as well, but he didn't want it. I guess that's one way to get into the industry.
