I'm a part of ALFA, which is a rather massive recreation project for Faerun. They have about 12 live servers now, with a few hundred active players. You can actually travel from server to server, as if you are travelling across the realm. It's a heavy RP group though, and they ban people pretty fast if they mess around in game. They are already working hard to be set for NWN2. You can check it out at www.alandfaraway.org

This is what you need to do...wait until it's your birthday in August, then ask for gift cards to EB games or Gamestop. Take those, and your old Xbox in, and trade it for a new Xbox360. There ya go...at least that's my plan. Consoles aren't as good as PC's, but they have uses. My Xbox is also my movie player.

The BF2 server is a lot of fun, although a lot of people have trouble running the game, and a few just aren't interested. I think most people here probably own NWN. We could set up something right now if we wanted to. The forum is excellent because you can log in anytime of the day and comment about different stuff. A PW can be tough because it's hard to communicate with someone if they aren't at their computer exactly when you are.

I don't know how you can really compare these two. They are completely different in every aspect. Do you want a shooter or an RPG? I enjoyed Fable...it was a fun little story. People have way to many expectations.

If we are just talking funny video games, nothing can beat the original Monkey Island and Sam n' Max. There has been a real lack of straight comedy games. I hope we see a decent revival wth that Bones game and the new San n' Max, but the most recent Monkey Island make me feel that the genre is dead. As for RPG's, Minsc and Boo are probably the best comedic pair out there, although I never played Anachronox. I thought KotOR had some great comedic moments as well. The funniest part of Fallout were the special perks you could choose.

Ah, 36, my bad...I don't know where I got 43.

Which are the worst CRPGs of the last decade?
Hurlshort replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Computer and Console
If you honestly want to find the worst CRPG of recent years, you need to find a game that no one liked...even a little bit. Morrowind has a huge fanbase, whether you like it or not. So does Dungeon Siege, NWN, Diablo, Gothic... The only games on the list that really fit this concept are: Ultima 9 - It actually destroyed the entire Ultima fanbase. PoR2 - Destroyed its fanbase. Dungeon Lords - Destroyed a famous author's credibility...and had no fan base. Lionheart - Destroyed SPECIAL and pissed on the Fallout legacy. -

What about that game called Lionheart? That got really bad reviews, was buggy, unplayable from a gameplay perspective...and it actually had some decent potential. I don't think an action RPG that gives you mindless action deserves to be called the worst CRPG. It says right on the box what you are getting, so don't be shocked. BGDA, Gothic, Diablo 2, Sacred...all pretty honest about what you're getting. -
He's still putting points on the board, so I think someone will pick him up. It is pretty sad, but his salary is just too high. Mogilny is 43, sheesh, and he's still scoring. I wouldn't mind if the Sharks grabbed him, but we really need defense, not another scorer.

I actually just printed this out and I'm now using it in the classroom in place of our boring textbooks. The children are learning, and that's a magical experience.

Didn't I just explain this? Of course KotOR I was more balanced, they had years to develop the game. KotOR II was done very quickly. Considering the time constraints, we are lucky we got the game we did. It was a solid story with fun characters. It wasn't as balanced because that was clearly not a priority over story and characterization.
-
Let's have some realistic expectations though...game developers need to prioritize this stuff or they'd never finish any games. The priority in KotOR I and II was to tell a good story with interesting characters, and I think they knocked that out of the park. They also put a ton of attention into the force powers and having a variety. They also have a huge amount of different items to manipulate. Balancing combat is a difficult task. They did their best, but it wasn't as important as telling a good story. Personally, I'm glad they made the choice they did. Also, Obsidian managed to make KotOR II under a very short timeframe. I think they pulled off a very solid title considering that.

I agree with that wholeheartedly. I bet there are plenty of ways to make the game more difficult. Don't upgrade weapons, play a pacifist, or just don't level up. Hammer and Sickle is super hard. I'm a wuss and save at almost every turn, and it still is amazingly hard. It's not impossible, it just requires a ton of strategy to be succesful. I recommend it if you're looking for a challenge. I'm playing on medium difficulty, but hard is like ironman, so I'm sure that's crazy hard.

Wasn't there already a game that came out based on Vampire: The Requiem? I could be wrong, but I know there was a previous Vampire game before Bloodlines. I think it sold pretty well. It had a Dungeon Master utility that unfortunately didn't work at all. Anyways, I'd love Obsidian to do a sequel to Bloodlines, but it probably depends on how well the original did. It was a solid title, so if it didn't meet the sales expectations, then I doubt we'll see a sequel.

Why bother covering up your tracks? CoF is of age, it's his personal computer...he shouldn't need to waste his time hiding it. Sometimes my wife notices my porn searches, but she can't say much until she puts out more.

I just go there to see the portraits I have access to. I think I post once a year. There are actually some pretty decent fellows in the technical help section, but the rest of the forums seem pretty overpopulated and unimportant. Not that we discuss important topics...it's just less crowded here. Crashgirl has an awesome avatar. It's definitely JA2.

Thia game is pretty hard, but the storyline moves in a very interesting fashion. I think I'm doing quite a few things wrong. I have one soldier who can sneak around an entire map knifing any troublesome troops, but I don't think that's the moral high ground. I just finishisd a pretty gory mission. Someone spotted my sneaky gal. She got a couple kills, but when she turned to run, she took a burst in the back and went unconscious. Fidel was nearby with his light machine gun. I thought he'd be toast, as there were quite a few people in between him and my downed soldier, but he managed to burst his way forward and pick her up. Just then, re-inforcements popped in. I had my other two guys in good position, and they took out most of a squad with grenades. They were hiding in a two story building, and quite a few enemy soldiers took position below them, but I trapped the doors and they weren't coming up. Fidel ran up and threw some dynamite in the window. This took out half the squad, but it also opened up the flooring and allowed my two guys above to rain fire down. Only problem is I got ambushed on the next screen...we'll see if I can survive that.

I picked up Hammer and Sickle today. It wasn't easy to find, I did a store locator search for EB games, and then called a couple stores before I found one. They didn't even have the game out on display...why stock it if you are going to hide it in the back? I hate EB games now, I just spent my last gift card there and now I'll be ordering online for good. Anyways, the game is very solid so far. The demo gives you a good idea of what to expect, but the characters are pretty interesting and so far I've got a nice party going. It's definitely a strategy game with RPG trappings, not the other way around. I'm in love with the combat, even if it's a bit lengthy. I also killed some mechanic guy (He was hiding a machine gun from me, and I was in a tough firefight!) It led to an entirely different plot line, and I ended up with another character...a former SS guy. My Jewish buddy doesn't like that much. Anyways, if you have any interest, pick it up! It needs the sales, and it was $39.99.

I saw the new Wheel of Time at the bookstore, but I'm so lost about the series, I'm not getting it. Starting with Winters Heart, I was just too confused about all the characters to really follow the story. I'd probably need to re-read the entire series to catch up, and that's not going to happen...too many other good writers out there.

Ah, interesting. I'm glad they do it that way. It avoids the idea of playing for last place. That happens in the NFL, and it's pretty ugly.

Does this have anything to do with moving furniture around to create harmony and balance? That would make an interesting game.

David Gemmel is my favorite author. He writes great high adventure, and he seems to be just getting better and better over the years. The most recent series is based in the Mediterranean during ancient times, and it's just excellent. My all time favorite is Master and Margarita by Mikhael Bulgakov.

That's just awesome news about the Whalers. I always thought they had a great jersey and logo. Since we have a draft lottery, Pittsburgh has a chance at the first pick. I don't know if they have less of a chance since they got it this year.

That makes me think of two Stars going at it, like a Street Fighter type of deal. I think it could make a decent game actually. Specialty moves could be solar flare, nova, and fireball. You could have a Pulsar, Hydrogen, and Solar versions, and a finishing move can be the Supernova. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Since Hades didn't get this, let me explain... Grammatically, if you want to say that the intellectual property that is Star Wars sucks, you must add an -s to the suck. Because you are referring to Star Wars in a singular tense, that is the proper usage. When you say Star Wars suck, that basically says there have been multiple wars about stars, and that they all sucked.

I'll own them all eventually. I typically buy one, hold on to it for a year or two, then trade it in for a different console. That way I keep my costs down. The only trouble is, you only get to play one or two gernerations of games from each system, but it's a well-rounded approach.
