  1. I wish we could vote off people...of course then I'd probably be voted off. Craziness. Seriously though, people who don't try and spell correctly drive me crazy. Get a frickin' vocabulary.
  2. Hehe, I think there's a limit on how young of a baby you can use for TV. Younger than a month is seriously young. I'm surprised they went through with the Baptism. I agree it was kinda a rough episode, but it set the stage for a few things. It looks like we'll have a bit of action next week.
  3. I just read this on Penny Arcade...it seems pretty sad. I'm starting to wonder about a few posters though. Personally, if I was a corporate plant, I'd expect at least $30k a year for reading all the lame crud on forums.
  4. I like the fact that BG says you are a chosen one...but then shows a video of another chosen one getting tossed off a building by Sarevok. Fallout was good too...it was definitely more of an outcast role than a chose one role.
  5. Don't forget that there was a rather long gap between Warcraft II and III, and a pretty long gap between Diablo I and II. Blizzard takes their time on these games. Also, the original Starcraft is still being played heavily, so they probably don't want to kill that yet.
  6. I agree with Setzer. It seems like a very solid project, reminiscent of HoMM II. If they put in an opera soundtrack, it will be heavenly. I expect the bugs to be ironed out eventually, I never judge a game based on that. The only real mystery will be the storyline. It worries me a bit, because the map descriptions are clearly written in broken English. My big question is if they hired a decent writer to tackle the campaign game.
  7. It's great to see that the regulars here got involved in the chat, and great questions everyone!
  8. That does sound pretty interesting. I remember hearing very positive stuff about Farcry, but I stay away from most FPS games (and save points seemed lame to me.) It's exciting to know they are going to a more freedom based design. It sounds like a GTA style setup with regards to the story progression. Why do the cut scenes get axed though? I like cut scenes.
  9. I can't believe you closed a thread that had been around for 18 months...I'm pretty sure it was the oldest on the boards. Anyways...I must ignore all other posts until I watch...
  10. I wasn't really trying to say that sports games should be more like RPG's, I'm saying they already are. They already have quite a few elements in place, and both EA and Midway are slowly adding in more role playing aspects. Midway has a whole storyline thing going on, although they didn't pull it off well. EA puts you in the shoes of one player and you progress his career. Also, I think I have a better chance of killing a rat with a sword than I do of running a touchdown in the NFL. It's not all that realistic.

It sounds like you are saying that scoring points is not really the only way to measure greatness. I agree. Jagre has a ton of points, but he's probably only in the top 100 in terms of greatness. If he suddenly comes alive in the playoffs and takes his team to consecutive Stanley Cups, then he will be great. It's too early to tell what any of these rookies will do. But they are extremely talented and will be fun to watch for many years. They need to win some titles and overcome some horrible odds to reach that level of greatness. The talent is there to do that though.
  12. I believe people simply don't want to call them RPGs. Some so-called "RPGs" have less depth, story and actual roleplaying then some of these new wave sports games. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And offer many more hours of gameplay. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've logged quite a few more hours into a franchise football team than many RPG's. That's just a matter of interest level, but a full season will take you at least 20 hours to finish if you don't sim through games, and you can play up to 30 seasons.
  13. I've heard a lot more complaints about the OC than actual praise. But I don't agree it's like BF1942, because that game had the multiplayer maps ready to go right from the get-go. NWN took time to really develop the mod community, but many strong single player campaigns came out of it. Hades, you tell me to start another topic, yet you are the one who brought up the single player community. You say they got shafted because the OC was lackluster, but I disagree, because a huge community of modders came out with single player mods. I know, because I prefer single player games tremendously. I was unhappy with NWN at first, but when I returned to it a few months later, it was a different product. I realize many people bought it and never touched it after the OC, but that doesn't mean there aren't good single player experiences out there for NWN.
  14. I agree, and I liked the fact that there were a few surprises in it. I had low expectations because the reviews trashed it, but it was better than I thought it would be.
  15. I saw some talk about how sports games don't fit the RPG mold, but I beg to differ. Sports games have been slowly adding RPG elements for years. You have a ton of stats that represent ability, you develop careers, and you seek out new people for your team. EA has even added a function that alloows you to create one player and focus on their career from college all the way to the pros. You change your image, do TV and Movie spots, and try to recieve rewards. You are filling the role of a football player. An argument may be made that, when playing an actual game, you control the whole team. But in Baldurs Gate I controlled an entire party during combat, even though I technically only RP as the main character. So why can't it be called an RPG? Is it not fantasy enough? Is it lacking story? I've had more interesting stories during a season of football than some of the action RPG's out there. So what do y'all think? These games do seem to be moving closer to RPG's, although the recent Playmakers game didn't fare too well. I look forward to more character development for my football squad.
  16. It's good if its true <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It amazes me that people still don't understand they are just publishing it... Anyways, quite a few sports titles have serious RPG components. You have stats for every player, they go up with experience. The new Madden and NCAA games allow you to create a player and lead his career through college and pro levels. You can actually change your appearance, do TV and movie spots...there really are a ton of options. You can also create your own stories through the franchise mode. The fact is, I know some action RPG's which deserve the title even less than some sports titles.
  17. They still have a huge single player community. Quite a few of the more popular mods available are single player, as well as the two expansions. Although I did hear many developers lose sleep over incuring Hades wrath.

I don't think Nashville fans are that picky. You see older hockey markets take an attendance drop when the team is bad, but young markets tend to stay strong...if the community backs the idea of a pro sports team. Carolina has always had trouble filling the seats because it's not a great place to have a team. It's NASCAR country.
  19. They aren't guidelines, they are rules, and you get a hefty fine for not following them. I think there are better ways to change the whole booth babe standard. This is more of a threat to behave, perhaps they should try and spin the fact that a more child friendly and less sexist E3 will help greatly with PR. They need to open up the Boys Club of video games, but attacking the door with an axe is not the smoothest way to do so.
  20. Uh...we haven't even seen a screenshot of this Fallout 3. Pretty premature.
  21. Uh...maybe they didn't hire Troika because it would be a bad investment? Seriously, Troika didn't have a great track record before it shut down. I'm not talking about quality, either, because I love Arcanum and Bloodlines. They just can't make money.
  22. While I think it is good to set a standard that moves away from booth babes, I do not like the whole censorship idea.
  23. Yay for reading comprehension. Seriously, they are only publishing these games. Clearly they are financially doing well, so they've decided to help a few development houses get some titles out the door. I'd rather them do it than EA or some other publishing giant with no real cares about quality.
  24. I don't see it as a huge deal. They'll probably keep all the decent shows and throw out most of the garbage. I know a few people watch "Smallville", and I believe it was Volourn who loves "Gilmore Girls". They'll keep these shows running. Personally I haven't watched these two networks since Buffy and Angel went off the air.
  25. I actually never really paid attention to levels in BG, BG2, or PS:T. I just played the game through and levelled as the story progressed. I was way underpowered when I got to the final battle in BG, but I prevailed eventually. NWN was the first game that made me cognizant of levelling. I'm not sure that's a good thing. I'd rather it be a second hand thing...something that lies under the surface of progressing the story and getting neat gear.
