  1. When Halo first hit the Xbox, it was pretty impressive, but Halo 2 was nothing special. Halo just had a good physics engine. Storywise it's nothing spectacular. I am intrigued to know Peter Jackson is directing. It could be a very good action movie. I'll probably see it just to support video game movies being made by decent directors.
  2. Let's start some predictions... Sharks over Nashville 5-2 Vancouver over Phoenix 3-1 Edmonton over Colorado 4-3 Pittsburgh over NJ 3-1 Columbus over Washington 5-1 LA over Dallas 3-2 Anahiem over Chicago 2-1 That's all I've got time for.
  3. This game really is vastly inferior to Battlefield 2. I'm guessing a mod will come out for BF2 that will be better than Battlefront 2. I can barely tell that I'm shooting people, the flight controls don't feel anything like flying, and the beta levels were all seriously small. I know this was just from beta, but it really lacked magic. I'm surprised the first sold so well. I actually really enjoyed Republican Commando, but they didn't do a ton of advertising for it. They're just riding the Battlefield coat tails.
  4. I'd probably advise spending less time on forums if you want to do better in school. These things are serious time sinks.
  5. 10 million isn't a terrible opening. It's more important to see how it does in the next two weeks. It's not Star Wars or Harry Potter, so it needs to build up some steam before it can reach its peak. I think I heard someone say it needs to break 70 million to be considered a success. That's still possible.
  6. I saw it yesterday, and I own the Season 1 Boxset. I was a huge fan of the show. I think my expectations were too high for the movie, because I left the theatre feeling a bit underwhelmed. It was a very good movie, don't get me wrong, but I didn't think it was the best movie I've seen this year. I think I just need to buy the DVD when it comes out, and rewatch it a couple times. I didn't like Army of Darkness when I first saw it either, but after the third time I as hooked on it.
  7. I play Ice in San Jose. It's actually become really popular. We play at the Sharks practice facilities, and they just built a 4th rink at the complex. They are also building a bar that overlooks three of the rinks, which seems like the most awesome idea ever. I wasn't dying without the NHL last season, because I think playing is a thousand times better than watching.
  8. I don't really think Marleau will ever be a top notch scorer. He flashes moments of brilliance, and he gets on good streaks, but he's never shown consistency. I'm happy that he's not a defensive liability, and when he gets hot, the Sharks win. I think Marco Sturm and Alyn McCauly have better chances of being breakout players. They've managed to consistently improve every year that they've been in the league. I'm also waiting on Brad Stuart to become the next Al Macinnis. Sharks just have depth, they really don't have any unbelievable talent. They've built themselves to mirror the Devils.
  9. I don't like St. Louis, but they do seem to always find a way to make the playoffs. Then they tank every year. But they do look a lot different...of course they looked different when they had Cujo, Shany and Hull too. Sharks are 5-0
  10. Education in the US has changed a great deal over the last decade. Each state is required to have comprehensive grade level standards, and although not every district does a good job of enforcing them, they do give a blueprint for a well-rounded education. The entire debate is that Intelligent Design is on one of these state standards. I'm not is science, so I'm not going to go look it up, but it'd be interesting to hear how it is worded.
  11. I think people are trying to make the argument that both evolution and ID requires leaps of faith. Evolution happens, clearly, but it's a very big jump from pond scum to humankind and there are gaps that haven't been filled. Honestly I don't care either way. I do think that students are being underestimated. Give them the information in an unbiased forum and they are quite capable of making up thier own minds. Kids are open minded, it's the adults that suck.
  12. Calax wrote... Adam and Eve do not play into the Intelligent Design theory. You are taking stories from the bible, which I've already explained is very different than believing in a creator. You can believe in a creator and not take the bible literally. Evilguy wrote I already stated that this stuff belongs in Social Studies, because it's philosophical theory. You should really read the whole thread before ripping into people. Also, no one has been able to disprove Intelligent Design, while your bizarre examples have been soundly proven false. There is a long history of belief in a higher power, and there is still a sizable population that still holds that belief. The point is, teachers should strive to share as many popular opinions as they can. Students can make up their own minds.
  13. Where is the connection between creationism (or Intelligent design, because they are very much the same) and incest? There is no experiment that proves or disproves the existence of a higher power, but both are very popular beliefs. I agree that creationism does not belong in science, but I don't think evolution should be used as a weapon against religion. Evolution does nothing to disprove the idea of a higher power. It means you can't take the bible literally, but honestly, it's a work of literature by multiple authors that has changed with the centuries. I believe all these theories belong in Social Studies, because then we study where they came from and how they evolved over time. Students can make up their own minds, you don't have to exclude anything.
  14. It's actually designed by Neversoft, the team that does all the Tony Hawk games. Since Tony Hawk has always been GTA with a skateboard, they might pull it off. Or it might stink...but I love westerns.
  15. Teaching creationism and teaching the bible are two very different things to me. I'm not a science teacher, but since I teach the history of religion I feel I can comment here. Most students enter the classroom with an open mind. They understand that the bible is not meant to be taken strictly literally. I try to get them to look at all sides of Judeaism, Christianity, and Islam. Unfortunately that might be considered heresy in certain religious circles, but my kids cover a very broad range of backgrounds.
  16. I was just responding to the evolutionary spider comment. You took my post completely out of its context.
  17. Well, I've yet to see an insect whip out a can of RAID when a human settlement gets too close. Clearly there are evolutionary limits. Early man was still more advanced, as the tools found nearby can attest to. There are other animals that have used tools, but clearly there is something unique about mankind.
  18. I teach 7th grade history, which covers all the major religions, and the jump from polytheism to monotheism. I think philosophical theory needs to be taught just as much as scientific theory about our possible roots. The problem is, as a teacher, you need to present an unbiased opinion about ALL sides. That way students can make up their mind. If you can't take a neutral stance on this issue, you shouldn't be in the classroom. On a side note, George Bush Jr. (who I typically scratch my head over) actually had a good statement about this issue. He said something to the extent that he believed all theories should be taught. Why not?
  19. I don't think Abrams has any idea what he's doing. I think he had a plot in season 1, and now he's just making it up as he goes along. I also think he's awesome, but that's my opinion.
  20. Cincy looks real nice on defense. They had 4 picks! I'm glad I dropped Baltimore and put them as my fantasy team.
  21. Quest for Glory had some great tracks. The wilderness music from QFG IV was awesome, and the track they played in the Thieves Guild of the remade QFG 1.
  22. I just went to the Sharks game and watched them beat the Ducks 6-5. It was a pretty exciting game. I saw Federov a few times, and the Sharks had their core teamout quite a bit. Oh yeah, Giguerre got lit up for 6 goals in the first 2 periods. He looks really bad, but he wasn't getting stellar defense and there were 4 powerplay goals. Those two line passes are pretty amazing too. Everything was great except my $8 cheeseburger.
  23. Cincy should handle the Bears pretty easily, they've played tough D lately. Only upset I see is Miami over Carolina. I don't see Carolina bringing the intensity they brought to the Patriots. I want Buffalo to win also, but that will only happen if Vick is killed.
  24. C'mon, Tkachuk looks awesome in that picture! Now he's a real power forward. If they can roll him in front of the net, the goalie won't see a thing.
  25. Wow, y'all catch way more stuff than I do. Pretty good start to the new season!
