  1. Actually I just read that cursing is good for you and relieves pain. There is no legitimate excuse for banning cursing, as it doesn't affect anyone's health. But if a couple GI's walk by a group of school children cussing and swearing, you can bet they will get their ass chewed out by superior officers. Image is a big part of the military.
  2. I would imagine they would need more than a single flop to collapse, but who knows?
  3. There is a friend referral thing, you can PM me your email and I'll try it out. Unless you already subscribed, no biggie if you did.
  4. Bethesda is a fairly large company that has grown quite a bit since the release of Morrowind. They really cashed in on the growth of the console market, Oblivion was timed very close to the release of the 360, and they have always published their own titles. Their success as allowed them to start publishing titles for other development houses. id, on the other hand, hasn't grown a lot over the years.
  5. That's funny because I once had a woman run into me while she was trying to light a cigarette. But I guess it isn't serious because I didn't die. But that really isn't the point, if you have read my posts. The point is an officer in uniform is representing their country. Right now there is a culture of smoking within the military, and this is an attempt to change that culture.
  6. Is that her kid Kor? One of 'em, yep. How many does she have?
  7. Hmm, the DS version isn't superior, it's a straight port and has a few issues with controls. I'd say pick up the PC version, although it is nice to have it as a portable game.
  8. I picked up Jagged Alliance for the DS today, and it's awesome! I know there are a few JA2 fans on his forum, and the original title is really worth a go. It was $30, but if you don't own a DS, this title is worth it alone. Now it's not exactly like JA2, it is a bit rougher around the edges, but the merc personalities, turn-based combat, and fantastic inventory system is all there. So don't waste time, this title needs to do well if we want to see more attempts at good TB combat games. In fact, I'm pretty sure Strategy First needs this title to turn a profit for there to be any chance of a JA3.
  9. I'd rank them as my second favorite adventure game series ever, I grew up playing them. I don't think they've aged well though. Martian Memorandum was the best, if I recall.
  10. I have no clue what happened to my passes, sorry. I couldn't get to them anyways, all my games are in a shipping container.
  11. I'm pretty sure the bulk of enlistees are 18-19, so exactly how many people that age are severely addicted to nicotine? They aren't telling current soldiers they have to quit. And alcohol is still a perfectly legal activity for adults, but military personnel are not allowed to drink on duty either.
  12. Oh yeah, it was very steep. My knees will probably murder me tonight in my sleep.
  13. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks of video game settings when I'm out vacationing. I passed through an area called Black Mesa in Colorado and I swear that was a videogame name. edit: Just found out it is the largest coal mine in the world, that's why it looked so odd.
  14. While not a personal favorite, it seems a bit silly to label the best selling movie ever as the worst movie ever made. Sales don't necessarily correspond to quality. Look at something like Wii Sports- its one of the best-selling games ever made, but its a steaming pile of crap... First off, Wiisports is the bestselling game because it is packaged with every Wii, so your comparison doesn't work. But I would disagree with your opinion anyways, Wiisports is a fantastic introductory title to the Wii, and is easy to pick up for people that have never played games before. It has a gigantic audience that most games would love to be able to reach. It's ok that you dislike The Titanic and Wiisports, I just don't think it is healthy for you to ignore the fact that they are quality products that have achieved success because they reach a large demographic.
  15. Ok, I skipped Day 11 because my wife and I were just exhausted and we pretty much laid around all day at the Park clubhouse doing laundry. I did finish a 500 piece puzzle, only to find out one piece was missing. We needed to rest up for the next day anyways... Day 12 - We decided to go to Timpanogos Caves, which is not too far from Salt Lake City. The brochure said it is a 1 1/2 mile hike up to the cave from the road, which seemed easy enough. But it was a bit strenuous when you add in the little munch-kin that I carried up. I was sweating pretty heavily up the trail, and my wife muttered a few divorce scenarios behind me, but it was well worth it when we reached the top. The view was outstanding, we really did climb a lot of feet up, and the caves was nice and cool. It was a nice long cave that stretched maybe half a mile. You have to go with a Ranger, and ours was a bit lame, but we still enjoyed it. Skylar had some issues with the dark, but I gave her my headlamp and she grew a bit more confident. The way back down was easier, although Skylar was wiped out at that point and did her best to sleep on my shoulders. It was a great hike, and I think we are going to head out to a Brewery as a reward for our efforts.
  16. personal choice? at what point should the government be required to stop saving us from ourselves (even if it is only part of the military)? taks If you read my post carefully, I didn't say anything about the government making tobacco illegal. A smoke-free society enforced by law wouldn't work, as we learned with prohibition and alcohol. I'm talking about changing the culture of the US to a point where it isn't "cool" to smoke. Men and women in uniform are representing the US military, and many children look up to them. I think the government would be making a positive change here to create a more healthy image for young people.
  17. Obama has stated a few times that he is addicted to cigarettes and has not been able to quit despite attempts. So it seems plenty logical to me that he would want to help prevent young soldiers from going down that same path. But the article doesn't really mention anything about that, so it is just speculation. I really doubt the tobacco industry will allow this anyways. The military is their biggest constituency after Hollywood.
  18. I'm pretty biased, since I really dislike smoking, but I think it is a positive move. Here is the thing, smoking is very bad for you. The US Military wants to promote itself as helping young people become brighter and stronger, yet tobacco use is extremely high within the armed forces. Apparently it has actually gone up over the last two decades, which is fairly disappointing. It sounds like current military personnel are exempt, so basically if you want to join the military, you would be expected not to smoke while in uniform. I don't see how that is unreasonable. Why shouldn't we be moving towards a smoke-free society anyways? It is tremendously unhealthy. If you convince young people that it just isn't worth starting, then you end up with whole generations of healthier humans. I know people will make the comparison to drinking, but I'm pretty sure you can't down a beer while in uniform either.
  19. That's a tough question, as quite a few can use them. I like the new Warden class, they use spears to fight (but I think other 2-handers work), and they can toss javelins. They have all sorts of different combos they can pull off called gambits. Champions are your pure fighters, and they can use two-handed weapons very effectively. Captains also usually stick to the two-handed weapons. While they don't have the DPS of the Champion, they have a lot of fantastic buffs and healing to bail themselves or a group out of trouble. My two handed axe is pretty wicked, it's a second age weapon, so it levels up and gains new abilities.
  20. Great, I'm still out of town for another week, but I'll try to catch up with you when I get back.
  21. Woohoo! Stick with it if you can, it slows down a bit between levels 15-30, but after 30 it has been a complete blast to play for me. Actually they changed to level pace a bit, so you might not notice a slowdown.
  22. Lag and bad performance should be expected from a beta. I'm trying to play the trial for CoH, and I just can't get into it. I don't know why, it seems like a really fun game, but maybe I'm mentally blocked by any non-fantasy MMO's or something.
  23. All three are very good. The Witcher is probably the longest, but I'm not sure if that's a positive as it is the only one of the three I didn't finish. Fallout 3 was my favorite of the bunch.
  24. While not a personal favorite, it seems a bit silly to label the best selling movie ever as the worst movie ever made.
  25. Day 10 - We forgot the camera, so no pictures today. I went to the Family History place in Salt Lake City, and found out some fascinating information on a grandmother I knew little about. Her parents were both on their second marriage and in their 40's when they had her, and her roots go back to England in 1874 on one side and the 1700's on the other. Unfortunately I'm at a dead end with one of my grandfather's, and the other was adopted. I might go back to try again in a couple days. Other than that, we converted to the Mormon church, praise Jesus. Ok, not really, but boy is this the place to do it!
