What are you playing now?
I've been playing Lord of the Rings Online again, almost up to level 80. The book quest is simply fantastic, right now I have a small group of companions and we are tracing the steps of the Fellowship of the Ring, right where they get separated and Frodo and Sam head off on their own. The quest variety in this game really beats any other MMO I've played. Many of them are based around solving some sort of mystery, you travel to one area, look for clues, then look around for landmarks...it's just really well told. Plus my captain is still the best class I've ever played in any RPG.

SR2 was so surprisingly great, it really took me by surprise. SR3 has not had quite the same magic. But it's still a blast to sit down and play for a short session.

What are you reading?
Being cold and technical is one thing, but the way he moves against Tom Hall and Romero in the book are extremely sad. It's really a long list of people he discarded on his way to the top. Now the book could be presenting the story from a biased perspective, so the truth may be very different.

Non-romance dynamics in games
Wals, I kind of hate you for making me watch that video blog. But yeah, I think it's an obvious sign that many game developers are now in their 30's and 40's and struggling with parenthood, where in the previous two decades they were mostly in their 20's. Also I hope I don't die when my daughter is 15 because that might cause her to go get terrible tattoos that distract from her natural beauty.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
I paid $40 for the full game and DLC a few weeks ago, and it has been well worth it.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
The problem with the GTA5 trailer for me is the golf and tennis minigames look like legitimate games. They should be fun and quick diversions, not the newest version of Tiger Woods Golf. I'm more excited to swing a **** bat at aliens, to be honest.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
Vice City was probably one of my favorite games ever, but GTA4 was simply too serious for me. But I'm just glad we have so many fantastic options when it comes to sandbox action games. They all fill a niche.

Book Request: Books that are like ...
Michael Crichton's "Andromeda Strain" is one that you should read.

I've been reading the Biography of id software, Masters of DOOM. It's pretty interesting, a very well written biography. Although John Carmack seems like a total jerk in it.

Not sure if serious... Both of them are only in their first year of eligibility. Blake will be in but he's not quite in the same class as the other two. Fluery is a cool player and all, and he'll get in, but he doesn't hold a candle to Shanahan. It was ridiculous Shanny didn't get in last year.

What are you playing now?
Playable, yes, but it's a really shoddy port of an otherwise very good game. I'm playing Saint's Row 3 on my PC and it runs like a dream.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
I'll be playing Saint's Row instead. They keep it fun.

Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues
Shroud of Avatar does look pretty fantastic. I'm glad I pledged to it.

What you did today
I have been pleasantly surprised by how Dominoes changed their recipes. That being said, I prefer the take and bake kind.

Movies You've Seen Recently
I thought this little tidbit about Ender's Game was interesting. I wasn't planning on seeing the movie anyway, since the greatest part for me is the illusion that the kids are simply in training. Based on the trailer, that seemed like it was not happening. It's kind of an odd protest, it's a very violent book that doesn't touch on his religious views, so I'm not really seeing the point. Some of his books go full on Book of Mormon, so that would seem a better target. I love Tom Cruise movies and he's in a certified wackjob cult, so I'll take a pass on this particular protest.

SW: The Old Republic Part 5
I will probably never ever understand people who play swtor for its story. To me it's like eating at mcdonalds for their excellent culinary qualities That's really the only reason to play it in my eyes. There are plenty of MMO's that do everything else better. And really, much of the time I find myself enjoying the dialogue and plot progression. But there are some glaring missteps.

Happy Birthday America
That's really quite vague. I mean the rhetoric is fantastic and full of imagery and epic history, but it's pretty light on actual losses of freedom. The Kent State shooting would seem to lessen the point, since there haven't been many protests lately that resulted in dead students. What specific students is this blog speaking about? It's actually quite common for students to protest and then get arrested, it has been happening for decades. I actually have more freedom than I did a couple weeks ago. Thank you Supreme Court for overturning DOMA and Prop 8.

SW: The Old Republic Part 5
Yeah, I shoved Galt into a passenger cabin and never let him out with my BH. It was a bad story decision, I know two players that stopped playing over it.

The Kickstarter Thread
They've already shot a lot of footage, so I'd imagine they will find some way to get it done even if Kickstarter doesn't work. Maybe they will relaunch with a more realistic goal in mind.

The Kickstarter Thread
That is pretty cool, they should make their goal. Always liked the story of Sierra. It does not look like they will make that goal, they are not really moving.
