In Defense of the Story
Ashen Rohk replied to Grimo88's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I have a feeling I'm getting to the end of the main narratice by heading to Ashen Maw so I'm putting it off for as long as possible. I tend to agree that there's not a whole lot of substance to the main plot that I've felt aside from our reason to push ahead. The factions and side quests are what flesh out the world and you get the feeling that while Eothas stomping all over is a big danger, these people were already trying to survive, profit and generally **** each other over long before Eothas appeared. I'm glad the sidequests are there, as the main story is a little lacking atm for me in terms of depth, as much as I'm loving the game. Also, shouldn't this be in Spoilers? -
The achievement seems to ping on how many sidekicks you've recruited, rather than picking up all of the ones currently available. For example, Rekke is still floating about somewhere yet to be recruited and I've just picked up Mirke, Konstanten, Fassima and Ydwin (maybe), so the formual is currently ALL SIDEKICKS IN GAME - 1 = ACHIEVEMENT.

Edér: What happened?
Ashen Rohk replied to Galagraphia's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Gotta agree with post no.2 in the thread. Eder's the same old awesome dude, his undercurrent of tragic past forming the crux of his main personal quest. How do I know it's the same old Eder? Because he get's a pro animal reputation buff in the Watershaper Guild quest in the final room. Aloth's turned into that guy who comes along on a road trip and sucks all the fun out, as has Pallegina. But maybe she was always like that... -
Arguably the game's best weapon - what builds are you running for that sweet icy death? I'm currently running it on my Helwalker Ranged Monk build, I think it's the Flagellant one on the forums and my god it makes me happy. Probably not as optimised as the dual scepters but who gives a damn? How are you freezing your enemies to death?

Hi dudes, So that Garari Cuirass that Ernezzo has...obviously I'm murdering her because Spindle Man is awesome but I wouldn't mind that ridiculously good cuirass. Armour 10 and 20% recovery, sign me up. Is there any way to acquire it after Ernezzo is dead? Apparently it's unique and isn't on her corpse.

Same. So much of the voice acting in BG and (especially) BG2 is stuck in my head (in a good way). If "Ah, the child of bhaal has awoken" doesn't immediately start a sequence of lines in your head in Irenicus's voice then you didn't play BG2 enough (or I played it too much perhaps). GET OUT OF MY HEAD, CHARLES

BG and BG2 had them when travelling between maps. In BG2 there were a couple that led to actual content (slavers and harpers iirc) but the rest were just pointless distractions. EDIT: a reminder: "you have been waylaid by enemies and must defend yourself". Literally just about to post this - I can still hear it in my head.

Oh man, I forgot about all that! Despite it's flaws I still think getting a crap release window played a party, you only have to look at other publishers eyeing up the CoD/Battlefield window or the inevitable WoW expansion, although the latter might not be as prevalent these days? Edit: FWIW, I too thought TToN was a colossal let down.

It'll certainly do better than Torment, which got absolutely crushed between Horizon: Zero Dawn and ME: Andromeda. Regardless of quality of the latter still both AAA titles that sold insanely well and Torment got lost in it. Relatively clear release slate for Deadfire to take the limelight too. Edit: ME3 was great, stop focusing on the last 5 minutes.

The volume of content isn't the issue, it's making sure that beta testers can test all the mechanics available and see if they fall down or stand up when played away from OBS test environment. The Dyrford area in PoE1 was a perfect size to test mechanics, as was the area we were given in the Deadfire beta. Everything could be tested that needed to be, by this logic they might as well chuck us the entire game in beta "just to make sure it all works". I remember the IWD1 demo gave you a full third of the game, which was mental. But it was a demo, not a beta.
