Spill your blasphemous opinions on CRPGs here
Sarex replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Computer and Console
Anything does combat better then Dark Souls, I swear the game was only "hard" because of the clunky combat you had to get used to. -
@Tagaziel and 213374U 1)Yugoslavia was of strategic important to the west as can be seen from the end result from the conflict, but that was not the only reason. Yugoslavia at the height of it's power was emerging to be a power of it's own in Europe. It didn't answer to the west or the east and that didn't sit well with either. So after Titos death the west took advantage of the destabilization of the country and intervened. The rest is history. An addendum to add is that after all was said and done, America ploped the lagrest foreign military base in Kosovo which is now conveniently in disspute. 2)Yugoslavia was a Socialist state, not Communist. 3)Parallels can be drawn between Ukraine and Serbia, I will not be surprised if it is latter discovered that the protests were bankrolled by the west, as was the case with the Milosevic protests in the year 2000.

Help me decide which "classic" and other RPGs to play
Sarex replied to Fallen33's topic in Computer and Console
You should go through BG1&2/IWD1&2/NWN2 and after you had your fill of those type of games go and try Torment, as it will be something new and maybe that will help you get through the abysmal gameplay. But if you are looking for a benchmark that is representative of the "classic" games go for BG2 first. -
The best way to make a good character (for me) is to make him react to the plot and the choices you make.

You have a kidney stone fetish?!? O.o

Not the wheel per say, but the whole game. Also it's counter intuitive for PC players who use the keyboard to select which dialogue they want. It's not a big secret that the dialogue wheel was created to make it easier for console players to select the dialogue.

Oh it's a great thing, but for console players. Would be intersting to find out how many of the people who liked DA2 played it on a console.

Well you are not going to do something if it doesn't make you money. What I meant is, that the online game design is possible for large developers who have the funds to bankroll "stable" servers and continued support for the game (online games tend to require a lot of patching). Now the continued support for a game is possible for small studios provided that the game is successful enough that they see a return on their investment soon, where as large studios can afford to support a game in hopes that it will make a profit down the line (like Bioware with The Old Republic). But that still leaves the servers and until the internet starts to be more common and servers start being more affordable, I don't think that everyone is going to go for these games. -

Provided the internet becomes a basic necessity, which is still far off. -
You should make more then one village. Build one to a stable 100 and then just start another farther away, the only problem I can see with this is that you can't set what workers live where so travel time between villages could be a problem.

Ah so you think Tolkiens Elves are awful, well can't help you there. I can agree with you that today the market is oversaturated with elves, but Tolkiens book is older than all the crap that exist today and in that light I think they where interesting and good, especially after reading Silmarillion. Well you just need to burned on a stake for this heresy. -

The things you describe are called faeries or sidhe and they have very little in common with the Elves. Granted that Tolkien drew inspiration from them, but that doesn't make it his fault that people today took inspiration from him and made it in to something else again. -

How is that his fault? -
Steel tools and warms coats are the best trading item. edit: Btw, you need to get 2 for obvious reasons.

The only 2 blasphemous opinions I have is that Torment was the worst and Icewind Dale 2 was the best cRPG I ever played. -
No combat.

RPG elements that I would die for
Sarex replied to Djantari's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
So you want Sims + PoE. -
I'm around 60-65 villagers(workers), use steel tools and have between 10 and 15 thousand food in barns and market. Education is near 100%. I have every building and my goal now is to stockpile stone and iron to expand the housing, also to stockpile tools for trade (want to get sheep next so I can get better clothing). I am on my first playthrough and started on medium. As for nomads, did you build the city hall? Because that is how you accept or refuse them. Also I think they need to add something more to the game, this is far too simple once you figure out how to get a stable food supply.
-
Nomads come every few years, best to build a boarding house for them, because it will give you some breathing space until you build them permanent housing.

Stick of Truth has gone gold

I'll be the one that spikes the drinks when no one is looking. -
Because FF has google as it's default search engine. They are not willing to drop that because FF still has such a large part of the market.
-
I'm using FF 27.0.1 and am having no problems with it. The only thing that pissed me off is that they removed the option to hide tab (to hide the tab when only one is open), but I installed an add-on that fixes that.

To be honest, I really like what DA3 is doing. You capture castles and then upgrade, destroy or do what ever else will be possible with them. I would really like to see a mix between a game like PoE and something like Civilization (but simplified so it more of an feature and not the main point of a game).
