Here we go... a poor translation of some article from long forgotten past, regarding the story: The title in polish: "Name of your fantasy world" Super old forest, that nobody knows s##t about. Eir Glanfath, maybe? For more drama effect it is wise to say that further you go the trees get bigger and older. Some should walk around and hurt people for fun. Unless PC's an elf, he or she obviously will be amazed to discover, that the forest is somehow crawling with elves prettier than him/her. Super old mystic mountains. Should be old as the world, higher then the debt of our governments, also full of waterfalls, trees, castles smashed to bits, and other cool places that will look cool without the help of state-of-the-art graphic cards. A mountain, biggest in the world. Mount Everest should look compared to it as a pickup-truck next to a monster-truck. Every NPC should admire it from the distance (from time to time), and unless the PC's a dwarf, he or she will be amazed to discover, that underneath it there are tons of dwarves stacked in a tunnel system. Some big lake. It does not have to play a major role in the game, but it's important because it looks super awesome next to the biggest mountain in the world. Huge and endless sea. Mandatory elves came from that direction long time ago on their white ships. Amount of mermaids, krakens and such should be 2-3 times more than usual fish. Coast. The more twisted coastline the better. Somewhere here should be the Happy Idyllic Village at the End of the World (PC starts there). Grim, dark and very very bad east from which swarms of orcs, trolls, goblins, communists and other creatures are sent by the Lord of Darkness to the realm of the PC. Lots of swamps and skeletons recommended. There should be a lot of fantasy creatures in the world. Even a pink dire beetle bug has its place! Also, developers could change some of that, like put the forest in the south, and mountains in the north. If they have the gut to do it, they could also try to put the sea on the east, but that would mean the elves had to travel from there - this would totally spoil the atmosphere of their mysterious nature. Every story has to have epic background story of epic events from the epic past e.g. great epic war that swept half of the races or populace. The war lasted for hundreds or thousands of years and was started by the evil Lord of Darkness. Enter the PC: appearance irrelevant; has to be Chosen One; is an orphan raised by some uncle; wants to get out of the Happy Idyllic Village at the End of the World; has talent for putting himself into trouble; doesn't wash nor go to toilet; Lord of Darkness hates him/her; Generally the story goes like this: the world is probably doomed; someone destroys the Happy Idyllic Village at the End of the World; PC is rescued by some Master of Everything (weapons, tactics, magic, you name it); Master of Everything is killed early, so the PC sworns a revenge; the world is still doomed, it doesn't stop even for a bit; PC meets some wacky people who follow him; dwarf has a beard, elf has a bow and unlimited supply of arrows; bad guy has always some flaw so is easily beaten; good guys win! also there could be a plot twist at the end - like the participation of pink dire beetle bugs in the evil scheme! Eager to play?

Well, at least this monk of yours is wielding a staff, and is not a karate-kid wannabe (or is he?) As for coins: it's silly, but I like to see what amount of gold is there to click and pick up. So no magnetic powers. As for crafting: I get rejected because of the unimaginabillion of ingredients; for me Waste of Timecraft.

Things that I just find reluctant in a cRPG: giant wide weapons of ultra glowing nature (epic!); races based on cute fluffy-wuffy animals; gold picked up by standing near it; items falling out of enemies and containers (Diablo style); one save at exit (more Diablo style); monsters respawn after leaving the area (Septerra Core style); level scaling; companions faint and stand up after the fight (DA: Origins, Dungeon Siege 2 style); expanded crafting system - make all! (Skyrim style); monks as party tanks... or monks in general; magic everywhere, everyone's a caster of some sort.

Alternate Class names
Messier-31 replied to Nonek's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Quite long but read it anyway, heh. Those are great ideas, I especially like the one with nicknames. You could get a nickname with some reputation factors, but also for doing something extraordinary? Lets say your PC slain some creature, or defeated some opponent (invincible until a duel with you). Again a flashback from my WHFR times: after defeating an ogre named Bull Drum, in a set-up tournament (so much luck), henceforth some people recognized the character as *CHARNAME*, the Bull Drum vanquisher. Geralt of Rivia was also known as The White Wolf, Gwynbleidd, or The Butcher of Blaviken.- 45 replies

name: Steve class: Hobo skills and abilities: style of Drunken Master (unarmed); repellent fume (passive); broken bottle (improvized weapon). related quest: Steve asked you to retrieve the legendary magical booze from the ruins of Liquorstore - an ancient dwarven stronghold of yet to be discovered location. The story tells of a refilling flask of hooch which gives no hangover effect after consumption. The race for the flask has begun, as alcoholic parties across the land roam the countryside in the search of the hold. Time is of the essence, and the sobriety of locals is in your hands. Duhn duhn DUHN!

If one says "new torment" he implies there's a "old torment". Anything other than Planescape matching the description? Thought so. -

I concur - "fighter" sounds like someone who fights in competition, like in a boxing ring (Steven Seagal style). Simple "warrior" sounds like someone who wages war and is about to pillage the **** out of you.- 45 replies

As a matter of fact it's not "new torment" but a game that Plancescape: Torment was inspiration to... and also has the word "torment" in its title. It's a: different and totally new IP, a spiritual successor to P:E, not a sequel, prequel, spin-off, etc. a monkey with a banana. ... choose yourself what to call it. -
Bard is fun to play in a pen-and-paper roleplay. Totally one of my favourite characters back in the day. Sure, in computer games it would be either too weak or too strong for some events, but I believe there is a way to find balance. I always thought that BG2 bard subclass (called "blade" I believe - not sure) was pretty close to perfection. Not useless, not overpowered. Simply cool. Bard - still better fantasy story than monk.

Alternate Class names
Messier-31 replied to Nonek's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Quite, localisation might be problematic, as @JFSOCC pointed out. I played mostly the Polish version of Baldur's Gate series (which I think was terrific), and mostly the English version of Fallout series (because Polish was horrific). Given that this whole thing about Project Eternity, like my participation through Kickstarter and this here forums (with respectable colleagues) revolves around English speakers, I will play it in English. So, call the classes as you will, but with common sense. "Rogue" is old and good. But here are some other words I could think of: scoundrel, rascal, knave, scamp- 45 replies

Alternate Class names
Messier-31 replied to Nonek's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You just don't go easy on people translating games to other languages, do you? Unconsciously you would make us (foreigners) have to change the "barbarian" to something else. "Dreadnought" literally is translated to something that in polish resembles more of a "armadillo". Tough luck in searching for a good synonym for "barbarian", we would have to stick with that nonetheless... so the entire class-name change fails on foreign ground. Even oficcial class-names, like "cipher" are tricky to transtale! People responsible - have fun with that.- 45 replies

Divinations! My most probable party would be inconceivable by those of your comprehension. And by that I mean it would consist probably from every possible companion available (for scientific research purposes's's) just to make sure what are the pros and cons. But I have no idea with what I will stick to for the entire game. Hell, what will my own character will be? So everyone's invited. Except for monks. Wouldn't touch that with a ten-foot pole. Well, maybe I could pretend to have befriended him, and lead him to his gruesome death later. That would be awesome. Oh, even better: multiple sword cleaning accident (if ya know what I mean). Gotta write that down somewhere...
