Oh I agree there's issues with that, though they take a backseat to the current mechanic itself. In the BGs and IWDs (it's been over a decade since I've played PST so I forget if it works the same there), one didn't heal all their wounds by resting alone. Magical healing was required, obtained either by spells cast by characters, priests, scrolls, or potions. The only thing resting restored 100% was a character's ability to cast spells. It did restore a few HP, based on your accommodation (and perhaps all of them if your character had any kind of health regeneration). That system made sense. People might complain about rest spamming but that's a personal choice, and the issues with rest spamming are smaller than the issues with PoE resting. In PoE, we don't have magical healing. We don't have our toons waylaid as we rest (perhaps we do, as I've only played into Act 1, but I haven't seen it yet, and I've seen no one mention it). So the whole resting heals you all up is indeed hella goofy and makes no sense. Was the IE system perfect? Well.... yes/no. I see nothing wrong with the rest mechanic at all. Gameplaywise it could have been made better (I do think there was some limitations on the technology at the time), by implementing more hard capped time requirements in the game (ie: if you don't get X done within X amount of time, you fail). This is the direction I'd have liked to have seen PoE go. A world that's more alive. Not the arbitrary crap limit on camping supplies we have (which actually wouldn't be that bad if they had a weight, and we had an encumbrance system). The ideal resting mechanics in an RPG game with the setting we have is exactly what we had in the IE games, coupled with the day/hour clock having more meaning in the sense that you need to get some quests done within a certain amount of time or there are negative consequences, including you fail at your quest all together, and possible outright game over depending on what that quest is. As well as a little better AI than the IE games had in regards to being attacked while you're resting in possibly hostile place X.

What on earth does a sex offender living in your house have to do with telemarketing? What on earth does telemarketing have to do with the police showing up at your house? Unless you've had someone complain of harassment? You can afford games and the internet but not a cell phone? Why would you need a cell phone anyways? Landlines are ideal for telephone from home work. Many if not most reputable companies that would have one work from home via phone would pay for that phone. I know a few people, including a family member, that have been doing work from home via phone for years, and every company they work for provides the hardware and landline as they want a secure and monitored communication line for their customers. Temp agencies vary in quality, but even with the good ones you need to be proactive.

Petition: Remove time limit for forum post edits
Valsuelm replied to Daemonjax's topic in Obsidian General
See, this is one of the places moderation on this forum fails (and one of the places many people in society fail when they try and implement policies to combat X). If you had a problem in the past, a rule should have been devised to deal with it, and the folks breaking said rule should have been dealt with. Crushing all forum posters' freedom because of a few nitwits is bad moderating and bad policy. Crush the nitwits. There are many legitimate reasons for wanting to be able to edit a post more than an hour after it was posted, in particular in some OPs. So long as the information showing that the post was edited and when it was is in the post, there shouldn't be any big problems. The majority of the internet is able to handle the situation, there's no good reason that the Obsidian forums can't either. -
Why does Obsidian have physical offices?

35 isn't old. That's young by many people's standards. Sacramento isn't exactly the sticks. There's definitely some jobs around there for her. Apply. Understate qualifications if need be. Have a 'can do', not a 'can't do' attitude. And here's some generally good advice on interviews:

Yep. Something like this is what we should have had, instead of camping supplies. Which really are nothing more than a pain in the ass. All of my characters can carry multiple suits of armor, but they can't carry more than 2 bits of camping supplies between them. How this idea got off the drawing board and into the game is beyond me.

Yea... the string you suggest looking for is not in the unadulterated Assembly-CSharp.dll file. Alas. How did you go about finding this value so perhaps I can find it in the unadulterated Assembly-CSharp.dll file? Thanks for your efforts. I just searched for F4 01 00 00 in original file and compared a bit of symbols around them. It was 3rd and 4th instance like Daemonjax said. Or search for F4 01 00 00 5A 2A, there is only two of them afaik, the ones that need changed. Uploaded it here for use in other forum: http://www.multiupfile.com/f/31ec184f (v1.0.3.0530 without ie mod double xp requirements) Thanks. I'm thinking double might be a bit much, though maybe not? Are we even sure there's that much XP in the game? Ideally imo we'd hit 12th level not long before the last boss. I wouldn't want to make the requirements so high I'd never see max level. Perhaps +50% XP requirements? Anyone have a good guess based on experience how much the XP requirement can be buffed without making it so high one would never achieve 12th level before the end of the game?

EI Mod and my opinions
Valsuelm replied to Mdalton31's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
they anounced quality of life changes for 1.05 well have to waitfor patch notes to see which those changes are obviously possible and not too hard to implement, but ithink bugfixes still have priority Aye. I totally understand that bug fixing needs priority. With 18,583 unique downloads (and I'm not yet one of them) as of this post though, I think Obsidian should take note at how many people want what's in the IE mod, and at least implement the options that it has that are not gameplay changing in an upcoming official patch (other than the one that alters the backer stuff that is). Revisiting what is gameplay changing and in the mod should perhaps be done as well. Hopefully we'll see some of the things the IE mod takes care of as well as the XP issue (as in it takes too little XP to level) addressed in 1.05. -
Apparently there are things that Russians can do well
Valsuelm replied to Darkpriest's topic in Way Off-Topic
Seven things Russians are good at: 1. They have the best song about their capital (yea, Germans sung it, but they were inspired by a Russian city): 2. Their current King has the has the hottest female to smooch with at night (she's also probably the smartest) of any King in the western world: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Alina+Kabaeva&FORM=HDRSC2 (most modern Kings have nasty looking freakazoid mentally whacked creatures they sleep with, a sure sign of there's something wrong with them methinks) 3. Cracking nuts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clWKDT4TQIk 4. Trolololing (oby is an exception to the rule) 5. Best Bond movie has 'Russia' it's title. 6. Best haunting/tragic love theme song us about a Russian girl (yea... an American movie and French composer, but it's about a Russian girl!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arCeUenKq_Q 7. The have author with the best beard! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_Tolstoy -
Damn you for reviving this. Damn you.

EI Mod and my opinions
Valsuelm replied to Mdalton31's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Much of the IE mod's functions should be implemented in the game by Obsidian. One shouldn't need a mod for: One tooltip at a time Blue Selection Circles Autosave before transition Walk mode -
Baldur's Gate in PoE's engine
Valsuelm replied to Gwynbleidd's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There is little to nothing that could be gained by playing BG in the PoE engine. The only major possible improvement to be made to the IE games is better graphics. Unfortunately the original art from those games is lost, so it's not possible to do, or Beamdog would have done it. -

So lets see.... So far we have these reasons given for someone to rule over you: a) We need rulers so someone can collect taxes from us. b) We need rulers so we can have education and health care. c) We need rulers to act as arbiters. d) We need rulers... well just because we end up with them. e) We need rulers to protect our property rights. There are easily disputed. a) Brain is broken via severe cognitive dissonance. Circular logic fail is often a symptom of this unfortunate condition. Might also be a masochist. b) Education and health care haven't been provided to the populace at large by rulers throughout the vast majority of human history or even today in a great many places. This fact alone proves that these are not valid reasons for the existence of rulers as rulers exist aplenty without them. Education and health care also exist without rulers, and have since before history began being recorded. Even amongst Statists the value of government involvement in health and education is vehemently disputed, as there are a great many Statists who think the ruling class has no business dictating on matters of education or health care. Why would any sane person want a ruler to tell them what education or health care they can, cannot, or must have? Such a person is a slave. c) While a ruler can be an arbiter, an arbiter is not a ruler. Most arbiters are not rulers, and being a ruler is not necessary to be an arbiter. d) Either brain is broken via severe cognitive dissonance, or one has just never before considered the question seriously (it's not one with a simple answer, or one with an answer that can quickly arrived at, especially for anyone that was raised to worship the state, as almost everyone in the western world has been) e) Why must your protection come from someone who rules over you? Governments/Rulers have stolen and destroyed more private property than all other folks in recorded history combined. Exponentially so. You're a hen hoping for protection from wolves, and could likely find much better protection for your property than from the ruling class. Anyone else have a better answer to the question... ...than the ones already provided?

Baro' believes that anarchism is an inherently 'left' philosophy, that's all, instead of being inherently left/right agnostic. It isn't helped by most anarcho-capitalists relabelling themselves as 'Libertarians' .... Very few anarchists self identify as a Libertarian. I personally have only ever encountered one who does, and they do it for pragmatic reasons (as the word 'anarchist' has a lot of bad stigma associated with it, as yesterday's 'terrorist' was the 'anarchist') . I've little doubt there's others out there who do it for similar reasons, but it's far from the majority. Most anarchists I've met, seen, or read self identify as an anarchist or nothing at all.

Now that's a good question We need order and structure because many people are incapable of doing the right thing, like paying tax, unless they are forced to So governments represent a collective system that allows things to function like the maintenance of institutions, examples of these include healthcare and education, and without institutions you will have countries and there citizens living in a benighted state where they just don't progress That's one of the biggest failures in Africa, the failure to maintain institutions in both the private and public sector So paying tax to your overlord(s) is 'doing the right thing'? You choose 'paying taxes' of all the examples in the universe one could come up with as doing the right thing? And you need your overlords to make sure you pay taxes to them? There's some circular logic fail for ya. Also, paying taxes has as much to do with doing the right thing as God has to do with choosing and blessing monarch X that claimed 'divine right'. Taxes are a primary way a government is able to maintain institutions and invest in the growth of a country I don't consider the government overlords but the custodians of ensuring a country is functional What would be your suggestion for a government to generate revenue and before you answer that consider this, every single government in the world uses some form of tax system because taxes work and are relevant to what governments need The question wasn't how best to tax the serfs, it was 'why do you need someone to rule over you?'
